[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Mm. 'Guess so. Maybe not... too close to the front of our minds, though. [Because wow, she would feel terrible if she got Jane all preoccupied with heavy topics all the time.]

[... Or... warm chocolate, she's finding as she takes a sip, which is also good.]

Jade might be upset with us, otherwise.

Oh! Right, we shouldn't upset her. She's invited us all here out of the kindness of her heart, after all.

[The 'chocolate' part makes up for it--]

Right. That, and she might beat us up. [No, she's kidding - her smile is obvious.]

[Jane smiles back, because she hopes Namine is kidding.] What? No way! Really? I don't think I can believe that.

No, of course not. She's much too kind for that.

[Here, have a little laugh.]

Not that I don't think she could, if she really tried.

Well anybody could if they really tried, or had something to try for. People can be pretty surprising that way!

That's true. A lot of the time people have more strength than they believe they do. ... Or anyone else believes, for that matter.

Mmm! So people in general can be extremely surprising.

They can be, yes. Even if you know them very, very well.

[She knows that one firsthand.]

I hope my friends can surprise me like that someday. It'll be interesting for sure.

They probably could...! Hopefully in a good way. Maybe they will; this place itself is full of surprises, after all.

So I've been learning!

[She takes a sip of her drink. Oh wow, it really HAS cooled down considerably; her eyebrows go up in surprise.] Mm! Mm-hm. Lots of surprises.

You'll probably learn it even better, over time. It's hard to miss.

[It's still chocolate, though, which is enough for Naminé.] Those aren't always good ones, though. But I think it's worth it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Even the most observant of folks can miss things right in front of their noses - which is also something I've learned. [She chuckles sheepishly.]

[She offers a sympathetic smile.] That's true. [She pauses only the time required for her to take a sip of her hot chocolate.] Personal experience? [And she probably wouldn't ask if not for the sheepishness.]

[She shrugs...also kind of sheepish.]

A bit, yes.

Would you like to talk about it?

[It's said very clearly like what it is; an offer, not a demand.]

Maybe some other time. But thank you.

[It's an offer gently declined. She's not quite ready to properly confront all of that.]

Of course. [Her nod is immediate, just as gentle.]

[Shrugs.] It was...what it was. You know? Something like that.
