A mass text is sent out from the TARDIS to all of the Doctors, strays and the people they've adopted:

Your presence is required at the house. Please come.

There's no reason given as to what this is about and it really isn't a request either. When they arrive they'll find the front doors to the house unlocked and tea set out. The living room has more chairs than it normally does as if preparing for a huge group and they are.

"I came here for a reason."

He looks around the room, and scuffles over to a table and leaning back against it. His intention was to get it over with today, and so he will.

"I saved Gallifrey."

There is a chair, Doctor.

He's going to pause and that's not going in, sorry. "How do you mean?" he frowns thoughtfully.

Chairs are for losers.

"I didn't blow Gallifrey up. I just sort of ... moved it. To a pocket universe."

He frowned. "Like the Collection?" he asked, having had that as one of the security arrangements. Well, not precisely out of the universe it's in, more like a peninsula of it, to stretch a metaphor.

"Uh. Sure. Most important thing is, they've found a way they could get back through, only they don't know it's the right universe. Maybe they do now. I don't know."

He scrubs a hand over his face.

"Got distracted. With the ... regeneration. And all that."

"And with the regeneration, you may very well forget," he realised. Funny how turning it into a problem made it more easy to comprehend. "This is like… a breech birth. Not… that I know about that… sort of thing, but the point is… complications. Both for the universe and Gallifrey." He rubs his face. "And someone shot the Doctor with morphine."

Well, now he wishes he could help.

"Oh, I dunno, I usually remember after a time, at least. I'm sure it'll be fine!"

"It's a sensitive time," he points out, but not harshly.

It's still enough to make the Doctor's attempt at joviality fall again. He puts his tea down on the table, drops his head and rubs his forehead. Leaves his fingers resting against his brow, hiding his eyes.

He doesn't want to doubt. How could he choose the Time Lords being dead over this? He couldn't. But still ...

It doesn't happen very quickly, but eventually, the Doctor will feel the weight of Irving's hand on his shoulder, giving it a squeeze. "Look at it this way, Doctor, if it were too good to be true, it probably wouldn't be."

A bark of laughter slips out, unbidden, at that, and he lifts his head with a watery smile.

"Very good point." He grabs the cup of tea again, and takes a sip. "It's a chance."

A chance is better. It is.

"That's all you've ever needed," Irving agrees with the unspoken thought.

"Yeah. It is."

He didn't know Brax knows him this well. Well enough to know just what to say. Perhaps there's just never been a chance for him to realise it. But he feels better, and that is a miracle.

"Do you know anything about the Papal Mainframe?"

It's a mystery just how long they've been around, and Brax is Brax.

"Sounds religious," he replied, having a distinct feeling against religion or at least the organised versions of it. Far too many end up dead nearby that sort of thing.

"Hole in one. It's a church. Lately they've been dedicating their time to making sure the Time Lords don't find their way back. Only they're actually the ones who made that possible in the first place. Gallifrey's found this crack in the fabric of time and space, and a branch of the Papal Mainframe called the Silence broke away, travelled back in time and, trying to stop me from getting to the crack, actually created it."

But that was time travel for you. Always made things so complicated.

"Destiny trap," he remarked. They were just talking about that, not long ago. "And what's their view of the situation as it stands?"

[comeonthensexy]

"None, I expect. Unless there's some branch out there that hasn't been taken over by the Daleks."

He grabbed his tea cup again and took a sip, frowning to himself.

He let out a long breath at the mention of Daleks. "Daleks?" he prompted.

[comeonthensexy]

"Yes. There was a battle going on over the planet where the crack was. They wanted to eliminate it, I suppose. Everyone tried to get through. And if they did, I fended them off."

"That seems like a dreadful deadlock." What did you do about it?

[comeonthensexy]

"It was. But, I suppose, thanks to Clara, it'll have settled for a while now. Hopefully." The edge of his lips twitch into the hint of a smile. "She's the reason I'm alive right now. Again. She's really good at that."

[becauseichooseto]

"Well, I should thank her, at some stage," he remarks, thoughtfully. "If it's settled for a while, then I'm sure you'll have gathered your wits in time to react."

"That's the idea."

The tea will probably get cold soon, so he finishes it.

He waits until he's finished before asking. "Anything else? Or more tea?"

He holds up a hand and shakes his head.

"No, I'm good." What else ... "The Moment does have a conscience, by the way."
