Getting to know you

Who: Any/all strike team members

Where: The Citadel

[From the outside, the small medieval-style fortress appears unoccupied, but on the inside, the first meeting of Asgard's strike team. For the next two days, members are invited to get to know one another, share what they can do, train, or...you know, team build.

For those who wish experiment with working together, equipment has been set up to form an obstacle course of sorts that takes up half the gym area. (Those who have trained with the Assassins on their capture-the-flag courses may feel the similarities.) Plenty of seating is available for those who just want to mingle or talk strategy.

There are also snacks. Eat them.]

She paused and looked over at him, the air shimmering for a split second before going back to normal. There wasn't any clear impression of a person, but she made a mental note to wear something to dampen the scent on missions. Always a good reminder.

"Nobody important," her voice said out of the thin air. "Just taking a few notes."

He relaxes, but only ever so slightly, still quite poised to go for that knife. Although Shirou has quieted, he, too, appears to be locked on to Samantha's position.

"Are you sure that's such a good idea, here? No one's better at catching sneaks than other sneaks, you know."

"Call it practice," she said. "I can't be the only trouble maker out there with this rune, so people need to get used to keeping their eyes peeled. Besides, not everyone can tell I'm here. Lets me watch quietly."

"Is there something in particular you're watching for?"

His tone is sarcastic, but in truth, he's a little curious...

It wouldn't be that surprising if he weren't the only one taking notes on their allies here, really.

"Skills, overt personality, who dislikes who," she said calmly. "Social dynamics don't exactly mean much on the surface, but if two people hate each other's guts and can't work together, putting them in a high stress job isn't smart. Knowing what skill-sets and powers we have at our fingertips is valuable too."

"That's true. It'd suck to get stuck on an important mission with someone you hate." He's really more accustomed to working solo himself, but given the nature of that particular job, there just hadn't been anyone else they could have sent with him. Not with the only other person of the correct age having skipped out two years prior...

"So, does that make this official business, or is it just for your reference, miss...?"

"I can work with people I hate," she said, shaking her head. "I used to work with a guy who I thought was a complete idiot. Screwed up royally and nearly destroyed the world, but I could still work with him. Not everyone can just let mistakes go, or deal with personality problems."

As he continued to speak, the effects wore off and Samantha slipped back into view piecemeal until she was visible. "Samantha. And it's business. I'll share my thoughts with the others if we're setting up missions."

It's only when she becomes completely visible that he relaxes entirely. He's certainly still guarded, but only to the usual extent, and that is quickly covered up with his cheerful demeanor.

"Well, I suppose that's a relief to hear. It's definitely a relief to see, at least."

She shrugged. "Sorry. I've never been great at socializing, especially around groups like this," she explained. "I've done a lot of stealth work in my life, and I tend to take it a little too seriously."

"Is that so? Were you a spy back in your world too, or what?"

They're all sneaks of some kind here, and while he is used to more subtle lines of questioning, he somehow doubts he'd get very far in a crowd like this.

"I was... it's a little hard to explain," she said, shaking her head. "I was a vagrant for a while, and a hunter on the side when I was living back at home. Trapping possum and coons takes being quiet after all. When I finally came out of the shadows I worked with other people who had weird powers to deal with problems all over the place, usually still more people with weird powers being dinguses."

She shook her head. It was weird, but 'hey, we're the league of super heroes' really sort of irritated her as a concept, so she refused to actually say that most of the time. "Most of the time, I was a scout for them, doing stealthy break in jobs into someone's base or getting the heavy hitters in where they were needed."

Huh. "Sounds like you've had a pretty eventful life." Almost like something out of a comic... Although with the types of people they've got around Asgard, he honestly can't bring himself to be completely surprised anymore. They've truly got people from all kinds of walks here.

"That's good, though. Having people with a lot of experience is gonna help a lot. I'll have to work hard to make sure I don't hold anyone back." Of course, given his tone, it doesn't seem like he expects to be a weak link here. The kid's got confidence, if nothing else.

It was like it was out of a comic book written by a hundred demented writers, all with different intents in their... oh right, it was definitely like a comic book some days. "You could say that. It was really calm when I was a kid though," she admitted, shrugging. "And I'm not really worried. If someone's asked you to be here, then you probably have the skills to be here. You're not the first kid I've ever worked with."

She jabbed her thumb off in Ellie's direction, though she wasn't even then. Just a good case in point.

"Oh? What did you guys do before?"

He's been out of this particular loop, so he can't help but be curious about all the things that may have been going on behind the scenes while he was still going solo.

"It was more by accident. We ended up stuck in a mirror world together and I saw her in action," she said, shaking her head. "She's good in a pinch, and has plenty of street smarts. I'm guessing you've probably got something of your own you're hiding away."

He lifts a hand to his chin thoughtfully. "Street smarts, huh... Well, she's definitely good at climbing rooftops, at least." That's about the most he's seen of her, really.

And in response to the last part: "...Is there anyone here who isn't?"

"Here? Probably not. Asgard, I don't know. There's folks that are pretty much open books in the city," she said, shrugging. "Though that does make me wonder what your story is, behind the scenes."

"Yeah, I've met a few of those. They'd talk your ear off about their lives even if you didn't bother asking." Of course, he usually did anyway. It's just kind of his thing.

"Really? Why so interested?"

Tap tap. She was tapping her pencil on the notepad, giving him a bit of a raised eyebrow look. "You're on the teams too, dummy. I'm making sure I know what you can do too, or at least what you say you can do."

"If that's what you want to know, just a list of skills should be fine, right? Anything I've trained in that could be useful, that kind of stuff."

There isn't really any reason for him to go spilling his life story here, even though in the long run it probably wouldn't matter. Still, gods forbid he ever make it easy for anyone.

"Yeah, skills are fine. I don't need to know the whole nine yards, just what you're able to do," she said, giving a single shrug. She could do the same, but for the moment she hadn't. For all that she wanted to know, she was as cagey as the rest of them.

"...I'm trained in kendo, but when it comes to this sort of thing, knives are my specialty. Ambushes, traps, and infiltration are all things I'm capable of. I'm a lot more used to forests, but I can - what was it, free run? - pretty well in the city, too.

Since I'm also in the city patrol, I figure I can pick up some interesting info while I'm out on rounds."

There's probably some things that can be inferred from a fifteen year old knowing such things, but that much can't be helped. Even he can tell when it's necessary to share some information.

There were actually a lot of possibilities, most of them all a little unusual. She decided not to dwell on it. He was far from the only kid with the training of a proper soldier she'd met. Hell, some ages in history would view him as an adult. So, it was enough. She jotted down notes and gave a quick nod.

"House, power and have you hit level three yet?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. Skills training was always good, as it meant you didn't rely on power, but she wanted to know that one as well, just in case.

"Loki, with telekinesis at level two." He's not sure why it was stuck at that level, but it is what it is. "It's pretty handy along with my knives - I don't even have to worry about using rope for easy retrieval."

Of course, it's a different story if he needs to actually catch the person, but well.

"With knives, that would actually be useful, yes," she said. "I don't know how much force you can produce but it means you have range on them most of the time, and you can carry all the ammo you need." Another scrawled note. She needed combat-ready sorts in her mind, and TK and Growth qualified.
