Getting to know you

Who: Any/all strike team members
What: Training/mingling/SNACKS
When: Day 473-474
Where: The Citadel

[From the outside, the small medieval-style fortress appears unoccupied, but on the inside, the first meeting of Asgard's strike team. For the next two days, members are invited to get to know one another, share what they can do, train, or...you know, team build.

For those who wish experiment with working together, equipment has been set up to form an obstacle course of sorts that takes up half the gym area. (Those who have trained with the Assassins on their capture-the-flag courses may feel the similarities.) Plenty of seating is available for those who just want to mingle or talk strategy.

There are also snacks. Eat them.]

"Maybe if you didn't call them 'mushroom men'?" His smile is back, despite the morbid topic. Or maybe because he's glad to find someone else with the ability to not get dragged down by it. "I think that's the name of the mascot for a pizza place in downtown LA."

"Hey, if you saw them then you would settle for mushroom men too." Then she paused as she focused on something very important to what he had to say. It wasn't at all what anyone would think though. Her eyes lit up and she looked thrilled as she suddenly asked, "You're from LA?"

"Oh, uh.." Was he? Connor's brow furrowed as he considered that question. "Sort of. I'm from LA but have only spent a few years there... I was born there, grew up somewhere else, and came back."

It's a highly simplified version of his situation, but it should work for whatever Riley's asking. "Why do you ask?"

"That's awesome! My girl and I were seriously going to figure out how to get there together! I mean, it's probably all fucked up in my world but we had all these plans when we saw the fucking signs showing the ocean!"

She was seriously so excited about this. Someone from LA. Really from LA. "Come on, what's it like?"

"Hell on earth, right now... apocalypse, remember?" Connor smiles weakly; he doesn't want to disappoint her, and grasps for a happy memory. "I uh. I do remember the first time I saw the ocean."

Somehow, Riley didn't seem the least bit disappointed. If anything, she was still super excited, more so when he said he'd seen the ocean. "Oh fuck yes. Tell me about the ocean."

He nods, then goes quiet as he tries to articulate it out of context, since that night was horrible. But the moment itself, the sight of water stretching out as far as he could see (and he could see extremely far) was... "I felt like it was alive. Not like the animals living in it, I mean the water itself felt like something ancient. The tide is like it's breathing, and right then it was slow and peaceful but I'd heard about storms before. So those times were like it was hungry, taking whatever it could reach. And it's so massive, that there's nothing you can do about it. It just... exists. It's out of your control." He exhales, remembering. "I don't know why but I found that really comforting. Something that was forever, that I couldn't see the end of."

"That was really poetic." She closed her eyes as she took a moment to just picture it. Something that massive just existing beyond the control of anyone. That was what real freedom was, that was what it was like to be able to...

She didn't even have words for it in her own head. "Never gonna see it but I like the sound of it."
