END OF ARC 1: DAY 168 BATTLE

[The grey dim light of false dawn has just settled on the city when the sirens sound. The piercing shriek of a modern warning system begins, and within seconds is joined by the low, haunting wail of wood and bone horns from the Elven camp outside the Gate of Fire. A minute later, there is Thor's post to the network.

And now, as the sun slowly rises, the light reveals clouds of dust in the distance, far off to the North and West. In that time, the city will be awakening with a start. Anyone with connections to a god-supported group or to the elves will be roused and rushed off to their jobs. Folkvang comfort house will open its doors, revealing an interior cleared of equipment and converted into a shelter for those who must flee the incoming violence.

The whispers on the streets are of disbelief and fear. Is it really the end of days? Surely the walls will hold against any mundane army. Surely it will all be over soon... right? Healthy natives are saying goodbye to their loved ones "just in case". Perhaps you should be too.

Later, the armies arrive. First the enemy, made up of humans, monsters, and five dragons. The lesser giants look almost human, except for the flame or frost in their eyes and the warm or cool tint to their colouring. But the king of the fire giants is something else. He is tall and broad and strong, riding on a huge, splendid black boar. The queen of the frost giants is equally intimidating, in armor that looks made of glacial ice itself, seemingly too ornate to be practical but clearly worn as if it is. Her mount is a great white serpentine creature that radiates dangerous cold. The other kinds of creatures are uncountable in their variations, but all well armed.

They dwarf the small forces of Asgard and the forward units of the elves, but just as battle is about to break the sound of a great number of clockwork machines heralds the arrival of the full forces of Alfheim. They are joined soon by the modern outfitted soldiers of Utgard, and then the masses of people collide like conflicting waves of water. Above them fly the dragons, and one great flying ship that seems to have come from nowhere but fights on the side of the gods.

What will your characters do? Will they join the front lines? Hide in the shelter? Man the Arena-turned-war-hospital? There are a million things to do in a battle, but not even those hiding will escape the smell of gunpowder and metal and the sounds of battle.]

[ooc note: your characters are welcome to come up with any frost/fire themed monsters you like! They may not directly combat the giant king or queen. They may not fight dragons without first checking in with the mods in this post (and two dragons are already claimed). Try to consider that there will be a second battle, so you can vary what you're doing. Also make sure to read the plot post thoroughly, especially with regards to character death.

Make sure to include the rough time of day in the subject of your top-level comments, as well as if your thread is open or closed. This whole log will only cover Day 168. If you need mod participation/NPCing, please ask us asap and give us some allowance to be slow, since there's a lot going on.

There is a log for the downtime on days 169-170 here, and a full-event log for those staying in the shelter at Folkvang here. There will be a second pair of battle/downtime logs for the second battle (Day 171-172 with downtime on Day 173) posted on Nov 8.

Important note! There will be a lightning speed commentspam thread for taking down the most familiar dragon in this post beginning today at 6pm CST. At that time there will be a mod plurk to let everyone know we're starting. We will also ask those who can to join the AIM chat (asgardchat) at that time so we're all on the same page. It's a thread we want to get done from start to finish as fast as possible/within two evenings, due to mod business. Please don't feel left out if you can't participate in that thread. It's partly an experiment in seeing if this kind of thing works for us, and there's lots else you can do!

Have fun, everyone! If you have questions, please ask on the event post so that everyone else can see them/the answers. Thank you!]

How... how does it work for trolls, then?

- If it isn't too embarrassing to talk about.
fishdouche: (Default)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-08 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not too embarrassin'.

[Eridan straightens up, fiddling with his cape as he explains in his most dry, scientific tone--attempting to hide his obvious embarrassment.]

Wwell, it's certainly not that fuckin' primitivve. From wwhat I'vve gathered, bulges an' nooks are about the same, but twwo trolls combine their genetic material into a bucket for the Imperial Dones to come collect once evvery swweep to givve to the mother grub to use in the creation a' the next generation a' wwrigglers. Only the truly depravved wwould dare wwaste their material like that. An' debasin' yourself to be used as a bucket? That's just... not done.
occulthymns: (hard to foresee)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-09 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
........... [Euri just sighs heavily.]

That doesn't sound intimate at all. I'm glad I'm not a troll.
fishdouche: (nyeh)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
It is too intimate! I don't expect a wwitch like you to understand the subtle nuances, but just because it's not as vvulgar as your couplin' doesn't mean it hasn't got emotion behind it.
occulthymns: (I woke with a start)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-14 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Please. It sounds like you don't even need to touch each other to have kids.
fishdouche: (pfffft)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-15 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's because wwe don't havve fuckin' KIDS! The mothergrub has wwrigglers an' they get chosen by their lusii. Wwhat is so fuckin' hard to understand about this?!
occulthymns: (your tricks and trade)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-15 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
All of it! What the fuck are you talking about now??
fishdouche: (meh)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-15 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck! I'm just goin' to havve to schoolfeed you evverythin', ain't I?

Wwhen twwo trolls pity or hate each other vvery much, they pail an' mix their genetic material together to present to the Imperial fuckin' drones. Wwho then take it to the jadebloods an' the mothergrub. The mothergrub then uses that mix a' material to make neww trolls, wwhich she carries an' are hatched as wwrigglers.

Your lusus is a.. wwell, they're not like fuckin' animals like you'd knoww but it's close--that shares your blood color. They raise you for the first feww swweeps, but you'd still better be fuckin' independent. I mean, fuck, like wwith Vvris' lusus. She had to feed hers from almost perigree one.

Any questions, wwitch?

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
......

[She's silent for several long moments.]

So... you aren't raised by your parents?
fishdouche: (bluh)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wwere you not fuckin' listenin'?! Wwe're chosen after a series a' trials, by our lusii. First you havve to survvivve livvin' undergroun and pupatin' though. Wwe're born like grubs an' after a time wwe make cocoons. Wwhen you're in adult form, they put you through a series a' tests.

You're strong enough to survvivve? You get a lusus.

[Alternia is just sounding worse and worse.]
occulthymns: (shape the pain into something great)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-16 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes, yes it is. Euri frowns softly, shaking her head.]

That's really depressing.
fishdouche: (huh)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-16 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Are you really fuckin' callin' my entire culture depressin'? That's a bit of a generalization, don't you think?
occulthymns: (fantastic waves against our sides)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-16 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
No. Back home it's always a sad thing when a child can't be raised by her parents.
fishdouche: (wwhy)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-16 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Wwell, it's fuckin' normal in my wworld. You can't just expect evverythin' to be handed to you.

[That is interesting to him, though, the idea of family units--people who look after each other with no real ulterior motive.]
occulthymns: (oh what marvelous things)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-16 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't about having things handed to you. It's a fundamental right for Witches to be able to depend on their family.
fishdouche: (Default)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-17 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wwell, it's a right that makes you fuckin' wweak.
occulthymns: (I'm feeling alone)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-17 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't. It makes you stronger.
fishdouche: (pic#5361537)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-20 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
No, it fuckin' teaches you to rely on others. An' guess wwhat, wwitch. People let you dowwn all the goddamn time. They lie! They wwould rather stab you in the back than look at you. Evven your insipid familial units aren't abovve such things.
occulthymns: (thrashing through the fen and dew)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-20 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't how it works in my world! It might be hard trusting other people, but your family is obligated to one another!
fishdouche: (hmm)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-21 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
An' no one's family evver betrays them? That's a fuckin' naive sentiment, Eur. I thought you'd be more intelligent than that.
occulthymns: (in this wicked world I risk)

[personal profile] occulthymns 2012-12-22 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't naive. That's just how things work back home.
fishdouche: (wwhat did you just say)

[personal profile] fishdouche 2012-12-22 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wwell, aren't you fuckin' lucky.
