Yggdrasil's collapse is reaching a fever pitch and bringing the decay right into the heart of Asgard. Those that remain in the Holy City for this month will struggle with disappearances, memory loss, memory gain, and other various horrible things. Every week will introduce a new feature for you guys to play with, and by the last week, all four will be occurring at random in one major clusterfuck centering around the idea of collapse.

Week Three: Days 446-449 / May 11-17
    Day 446 ( May 10/11 )
By this day, the memory loss will begin to worsen and start affecting canon memories as well. Your character may remember seeing their castmate in Asgard, but may not recall knowing them from home. They might lose memories of their childhood, or forget why it is they wanted to get back there. What exactly they forget is entirely up to you, but the recollection of their canon will become hazy if not outright blank.

This memory loss is not permanent and can return at random, either immediately or gradually, at any point throughout the month.

Starting during the past week, ghosts began appearing throughout Asgard's streets. The Travellers that have died during the opt-out event will return to Asgard as spectres that cannot speak, touch, or otherwise influence anything around them. Their spirits will be trapped between this world and the next; the living Travellers in Asgard will be able to see them, but they will not be able to hear anything the ghosts might say. Any Travellers inside Asgard that die will join them on the other side of the veil to be trapped there for the time being. These ghosts will continue to appear throughout the month as more of their company fall in Ginnungagap.

    Week Four: Days 450-452 / May 18-23
    • Day 450 ( May 18/19 ): Travellers begin having terrifying and painful nightmares whenever they fall asleep. These dreams are short-lived, easy to wake from, and immediately forgotten upon waking.
    • The volunteer opportunity for new characters takes place during this week. Sign-ups are by email and must be received by May 17.

THE LOG FOR WEEKS 1&2 IS LOCATED HERE.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the WEEKS THREE AND FOUR of the Something Ominous plot event! Remember that your character will be part of this event unless they signed up for the opt-out event by the deadline. Please put your character's location in the title, as well as either OPEN or CLOSED. The event fast facts are listed above, but for more details, please head on over to the full rundown HERE. If you have any questions, please let us know, and have fun! The link to the Weeks Three & Four Something Significant log can be found HERE.

SPECIAL NOTE: As of the power expansion plot, bracelets will work outside of the city along with god powers. Characters WILL be able to communicate with those outside of the city of Asgard, as long as the party has his or her bracelet on him. ]

10 April 2014 @ 05:23 pm
Who: EVERYONE
What: the LOCUSTS! mingle log
When: Days 431-434 ( Apr. 10-17 )
Where: all across the city
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

Day 431 ( Apr. 10/11 )
Any early risers that head outdoors as the sun is rising will find a somewhat strange sight: hundreds of earthworms, scattered all across any available loose earth, squirming around on the ground. What caused them all to dig their way to the surface isn't clear just yet, but they aren't the only creatures behaving a bit strangely today.

Just as the sun breaks the horizon around 7AM, a single stag will come charging through the city coming from the north and heading straight through the Gate of Frost. Mere minutes after that, a whole herd of deer will follow his lead and stampede their way south without care for anyone or anything that might get in their way. Smaller animals like wolves, foxes, rabbits, and the likes will follow at their feet, birds flying overhead in great flocks - all headed the same direction. Any pets or animals within the city will be irritable and anxious, some trying to escape and follow the same path outside and away from Asgard.

In the midst of the mass exodus, the bracelet's SOS function will blare loudly as one of the gods summons the Travellers to the castle.

The Travellers will have less than an hour to get themselves to the heart of the city where natives will already be ushering people indoors with a nervous calm. The whole of the city will be rushing their way through the barrier, and it will be made obvious fairly early on that not everyone can fit inside the castle. Jockey for a safe position and keep a strong hold on your loved ones so that you don't get separated in the chaos, but be fast about it.

After that hour mark, a wave of water will come crashing through the city from the north, flooding the streets at a height of approximately 10ft / 300cm. Anyone not within the castle barrier by that point will either drown or be swept away in a violent current that will carry send their bodies into whatever solid objects might stand in their way. Those safely within the barrier will see Heimdall at the front gate with his hands raised as though pressed against an invisible wall; if they look closely, they will be able to make out all city structures glowing with a faint shimmer - either royal blue, pale green, or amber - before their view is obscured by the water pounding against the barrier. The dome over the castle will be made visible by the flood encapsulating it as it washes anything that wasn't rooted down through the streets. It will be an awesome sight, though grim enough, as nature takes its course through the city.

The flooding will continue for several hours, during which time the Travellers will be largely left to their own devices as they wait out the worst of it. Sigyn, Freyr, and Freya will be going around with castle maids to make sure that no one in harmed and to try to keep people relatively calm. Hel, Fenrir, and Jormungand will be doing their level best to intimidate people into compliance by coordinating the immediate relief efforts that will take place as soon as they are able to leave. This means that, for the few hours it takes for the flood to die down, the castle will be largely unmonitored as the gods try to minimise the damage.

After the worst of the flooding passes, the residents of Asgard will be free to return to their homes. There will still be a foot of water to wade through, but it will be slow moving and relatively harmless. Thanks to Thor, Baldr, and Loki's protection spells, all buildings will still be structurally sound, if not wholly intact. Glass panes may be shattered and wooden doors may be splintered; anything that wasn't firmly tied down may be displaced somewhere down the road or otherwise destroyed. But for the most part, the damage is minimal. Now just to do something about this pesky water ...

Day 432 ( Apr. 12/13 )
By now, the floodwater has lowered to a scant inch or two, leaving the city streets littered with debris but otherwise safe for travel. Natives will be setting up booths to help coordinate the return of lost possessions or missing pets, reporting any property damage, and recovering any bodies of those that might not've made it to the castle in time. Travellers are welcome and encouraged to assist in the relief efforts. There will be district clean-up sign-ups below, but these are not mandatory to get involved, they're more of a way to see who will be in your district to make plotting easier.

Later in the day, while everyone is still trying to rid the streets of the lingering water and put everything back to rights, the first survivors of the flood will begin trickling into the waterlogged city. Outlying villages and encampments were destroyed in the disaster and are now seeking refuge with their gods in the capitol. Despite the stress Asgard is already under with the supply shortage and the damage from the flood, the Prince Regent will not deny his citizens the aid they require and will welcome them into the city until they can revive the land to health.

Days 433-434 ( Apr. 14-17 )
Relief efforts will now be split into two different areas: recovering the city and creating space for the new arrivals. The natives will need help setting up temporary housing, like filtering families into unused housing and setting up tents for the remaining numbers. They will need to ration out food and general camping supplies, and when Asgard is currently in a supply shortage, making ends meet will be a bit of a struggle. We would really love to see some player created groups banding together to do this! Things like donation collections or fostering an NPC or anything at all, you guys should work together to help facilitate the arrival of these refugees and their temporary(?) stay within the city. There are some player projects already up here if you’d like to take a look and get involved!

On the other side of relief efforts will be cleaning up the streets, boarding up broken windows, things like that. Sigyn will be working to rebuild the wall and could use some assistance in not only construction but the magic of her barrier as well. More player coordination here will help put things back to rights, so if your character has an idea of what they can do to help, please comment below to start up some relief projects! It'll basically be two days of everyone trying to dig themselves out of the mess and get settled again.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the LOCUSTS! event. All of the gods ( except Odin and Frigg, naturally ) will be out and about during the first day of this event, so if you’d like to plot with any of them, please contact either the NPC handler or the mods and we’ll help facilitate some plotting for you. As a reminder, all deaths during this event count towards your death consequences. Please put [OPEN/CLOSED] along with the time/location of your character in the title of your comment. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

Who: more or less half the world
What: icepocalypse party @ sophie and connor's apartment
When: 303-307
Where: Baldr Paid 103
Rating: R for future trauma?

I will write up something classy for this later but for now this is a mingle post in which everyone can show up at the apartment and panic. plz bring your own blankets, pillows, and winter clothes.

sophie and connor's apartment is not particularly furnished--they have a comfy couch, a beanbag chair, and pillows and blankets on the floor for sitting. there's no kitchen table or tv, but they have nice curtains and a forest mural painted on the walls of the main room. the kitchen is well stocked, although light on the junk food, and the whole place is pretty tidy.

there's a cat, but once jade shows up people start coming in she's taking cover under the bed.

Who: Isaac and Jackson || Isaac and Derek || Isaac and Sophie
What: Isaac's three modes are: fighting, realtalks, and crying. So. Isaac stirs up a lot of shit everywhere because he's Isaac. Brawling with Jackson, talking about heavy stuff in the future with Derek, and most likely just breaking down on Sophie. Good times.
When: 293 || 294 || evening of 294
Where: On the streets || Derek's place in Thor || Sophie's place
Rating: PG-15 or so? Fighting and talk of death

Three threads in one post so it doesn't get spammy. :)

Who: EVERYONE, including 4th-wallers!
What: The festival and 4th-wall events!
When: Day 290 - 293 (July 4 - 11)
Where: All across the city!
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ On Day 290 (July 4), all of the natives will close down their shops and stores and instead set up booths and stalls all over the city streets. Bright lights and decorations will be put up across every district in the respective colours of their patron gods along with an underlying theme of Freyr’s dark purple and Freya’s rouge. The city will spring to life in celebration of both the twins’ return and the Travellers’ triumph in reviving them. The festival will last three days, with music, games, dancing and an impressive fireworks display every night, visible all throughout the city.

In the midst of the first night of celebrations (July 5), a small earthquake rumbles across the land. It is nothing terribly powerful or disruptive, only strong enough to shift glassware a bit or rustle the leaves. The natives will seem surprised but unalarmed and continue the festivities as normal.

During the night’s fireworks, people will begin to pop! into the world in arbitrary places. Guards and maids will immediately rush around to give these new arrivals temporary bracelets with grey stones to protect them from the Grey Sickness; be sure to take this gift, as there is no telling what will happen to you if you get lost to the Grey when your soul isn’t tied to this world.

Still, the festivities continue even in the presence of their unexpected guests. The natives will treat them with a vague sense of curiosity and confusion, but are otherwise as amenable and deferential as they would be with the Travelers. Hang out, have fun, and please, mind the carpet. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is one of the mingle logs for the festival / visitor’s event! Characters in game and 4th-wallers can make their own top-level posts and also comment around to their hearts' content! All information on how exactly the fourth wall event works with the relevant rules can be found over here, and we are always available if there are any further questions or clarifications needed. Other places you can tag into and around include the general visitors/event log mingle, the network mingle with NPC involvement, and the visitor directory.

Please put the time/location in your comment title along with [OPEN/CLOSED] and have fun with Asgard’s first fourth wall event! ]

10 June 2013 @ 11:53 am
Who: ANYONE going on the infiltration into Thrymheim!
What: Lots of travelling and also rescuing Freyr's soul.
When: Days 278 - 279 ( June 10 - 13 )
Where: Asgard, Thrymheim, and the road inbetween.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Before even the first crack of sunlight over the horizon on Day 278, every bracelet in the city will give a quiet blip! as they activate with a short mass text from the gods:
The time to act has come. Gather at the Gate of Frost by the Sun's first rays if you will, and be prepared to strike at the heart of ice. There is no room for failure.
Exactly as the message implies: it's time to ship off to Thrymheim. Gear up in your best winter clothes and bring whatever weaponry you need; there are wagons thinly concealed and waiting for you at the southern gate that leads to the home of the Frost Giants. Inside the wagons will be those portable heaters that you guys bought in Utgard, along with spare gloves, jackets and scarves for anyone that foolishly believed summer might touch the kingdom of ice. Travellers can also find food rations to last a week alongside a generous amount of medical supplies that may or may not be a bit foreboding.

The caravan will leave at precisely 5AM, driven by the barest amount of Natives to keep travel at a minimum. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, and a severe silence will fall across the few sitting in the back of the wagons with the Travellers. They know the weight of this mission: if you fail, Freyr's soul will remain trapped forever. It is dangerous and no one's lives are guaranteed, so prepare yourselves for a fight quite unlike any other this far.

As you travel further from Asgard, you might notice the terrain getting a bit more uneven as the wagons move through undeveloped areas. There may be the odd village noticeable in the far off distance, but they are nowhere close enough to make out any distinguishable details because you don't want them distinguishing anything about you in return. These villages are few and far between, and grow even less in number the closer the caravan gets to Thrymheim. The terrain goes from rocky but arable to colder and harder, the temperature dropping increasingly as the earth grows solid and unforgiving, eventually peppering with light snowfall even in the midst of Yggdrasil's summer.

It will take two full days to reach Thrymheim travelling at as fast a pace as they can without wearing out the horses or catching unwanted attention. They will make short stops to feed and brush the horses, switch drivers, and allow for any necessary relief - but these breaks will last no longer than ten to twenty minutes at most. Simple meals will be served by the Natives thrice daily, and Travellers are welcome to attempt sleep on one of the meager pallets stocked up if they think they can manage it. Space is not abundant and neither is time. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is part one of three for the Save Our Souls plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. The second log can be found over here and the third and final log can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

08 April 2013 @ 07:20 pm
Who: EVERYONE
What: the sweet dreams nightmare plot!
When: Day 246-248 (April 8-12)
Where: everywhere!
Rating: R. Please be mindful of others and label your threads with any trigger warnings in the top-level comment! Do avoid this log if you are not looking for R-rated dream material. The PG-13 and below log is over here.

[ Late at night, amidst the crackling of thunder and the flash of lightning cutting across the sky, a bit of unwieldy magic will be coming down upon the city alongside the pouring rain. It is soundless and sudden, unbidden and without warning. By all outward appearances, everything is exactly as it should be. But at its core, the inner turmoil of Asgard will be unravelling to take a firm hold on its occupants and its grasp will not be easily broken.

Sleep lightly and tread carefully; no place in heaven or Hell is quite as dangerous as one's imagination. ]

[ ooc note: Due to an unexpectedly overwhelming number of separate logs for this event flooding the comm, we have decided to set up a second one for heavier content at player request. Please move all private logs into a top-level comment here. If your logs already have a significant number of tag-ins, they're fine to stay, but we do ask that any with none or few tags move their dreams here in an effort to keep the log comm a little bit cleaner. Alternatively, if you want to take your private log into your character journals, we will accept those as well when AC comes around. Whatever works for you guys. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your cooperation in this as we stumble our way through figuring out what works for events of this nature. Thank you!

More information regarding this curse can be found here. Please be sure to include your character's location(s) and [OPEN/CLOSED] in the subject line, along with any possible trigger warnings. Feel free to use the mod post to plot out individual threads. The PG-13 and below log is over here.

As a side-note, we did opt to let canon abilities work for this event, but only inside the dreams. No canon abilities will affect anything in the "real world" in any way, shape or form. Please be respectful to your fellow players and play fairly. Let us know if you have any questions or need any help! Thanks! ]

22 March 2013 @ 07:57 am
Who: anyone on the expedition
What: trains and funtimes!
When: Days 238 - 239 (March 22-25)
Where: on a train and then at Salt Side
Rating: PG-13! Anything above that should be taken to a private log. TY!

[The train leaves in the morning of Day 238. Like the one that brought the first bunch of elves to Asgard, it's a thing of wood and clockwork that floats about three feet above the ground. Inside it's a relatively comfortable passenger train with normal seats and snack car with a smooth ride and not too much noise. The ride will last most of the day, reaching the fishing town of Salt Side in early evening.

Upon arrival, the Travellers will be taken to the single large Inn and put up in rooms there. The rooms have four beds each -- feel free to assume anyone is your roommate or make up rooming groups as you will. They'll be given dinner (simple stuff and mostly seafood), and will be free to explore the town. It's very old New England style, populated by humans, elves, and Merpeople (described in the plot doc if you'd like to ctrl+f it). People will be generally friendly and willing to trade stories and items. There is also a nice sandy beach a few minutes' walk down the coast.

The next day (Day 239) is open to more exploring! There will be a great big beach BBQ starting around lunchtime and lasting on into the evening with bonfires and impromptu music and all that good beachy fun. Ran will be available to talk to that day, as she'll be handing out the underwater breathing charms.

Have a good time!]

[ooc note: There will be a log for the Library plot on the 24th and a log for the actual expedition business on the 26th! In the meantime play your pre-exploring party times here. Please note the day/time and location in your subject line, as well as whether it's open or closed. If you need help or an NPC, please contact the mods. Thank you!]

Who: EVERYONE
What: spring festival and flowers event!
When: Day 231/232 (March 8-11)
Where: Northern Asgard.
Rating: PG-13 (anything higher, please take it to a private log!)

Yggdrasil's calendar is finally making the transition from winter to spring and to its New Year, and the natives are throwing a celebration for themselves and the travelers! The barren white field leftover from Freyr's demise has finally sprung to life with flowers of varying size and vibrant colors. Ornate festival stalls have been set up all over the area - there are games, local and exotic foods, and entertainment of all kinds.

The celebration will last two IC days, and more details can be found here!

What: candy hearts event!
When: Day 226 (Feb 26-27)
Where: everywhere!
Rating: PG-13 for kissing and punching and things. Take anything higher to a private log please!

[In the middle of the night (or rather the early, early morning), there's a sound somewhat like falling hail. It only lasts a couple of seconds, and is followed by the howl of a single big gust of wind that seems to get through the cracks of windows and doors no matter how well closed or locked they were.

It seems the rain was a shower of candy hearts, and they'll be cropping up all over the place all day!

What could this possibly mean?]

What: The Tournament of Worlds & Magick
When: extremely late Day 218 - 221
Where: The Arena in the Thor District
Rating: uh, probably PG-13 at most, for violence?

[ Due to limited player response and sign-ups, we've cut back on how long the tourneys run and had to mix up the tier systems. We had only one entry for Team Magic, so this division has, unfortunately, been cancelled. There will still be a neat-o consolation prize for Kaz and Euri though. Marksmanship and Hand-To-Hand Combat will run on a round-robin tournament set-up, wherein each contestant will face all other contestants within their division once to determine the champion for each division. Swordsmanship will run on a single elimination tier-system until the final tier, at which point we have three remaining contestants (again, due to limited sign-ups). To determine the overall champion of this division, the contestants will be dropped into the multi-terrained ground as detailed in this entry. They'll have twenty-five (25) minutes to knock each other out of the ring. Last one standing wins. Individual Magic will follow the same system as the final tier of Swordsmanship.

All competitions and champions have been determined by the Random Number Generator. The complete layout can be found here. Each Day/Division/Contest will be given a top-level comment below for the involved players to play out their matches if they'd like, as well as for friends and family (or enemies!) to stand around and shout obscenities and all that fun stuff.

A million thank-yous to Kami and Dai for helping out with this, and then another million apologies to all of the players involved that have had to wait on this. I know it's painfully late, and for that, I do sincerely apologise. Life got ahead of me on top of the complications in configuring the mechanics of the tourney. Thanks again for your patience.

If you have any questions or comments, or if both players involved in a match would like to discuss a different outcome of their match, please use the OOC comments section below! Those involved in the three-way Swordsmanship final, we do ask that you pop on in there to let us know how you feel about determining the champion there, because sob it makes sense to none of us, but we will figure it out! We can always just do another RNG roll. Up to you guys!

Aaand we're done! Feel free to start your own threads wherever you'd like. The only thing we ask is that if you plot any cheating, sabotage or other shenanigans that would require interference, let us know. I totally encourage it, so that we can break out some cans of whoop-ass on you hooligans. but other than that, go crazy and have fun! ♥ ]
