[This evening, anyone living in the Welcome Halls will come into the main floor to find a banquet of delicious food from both Yggdrasil and the worlds of anyone attending. There will be plenty of chairs & tables around to sit at and a big fire in the living room fireplace. Your patron god may or may not attend, but keep an eye out for the chance to talk to them! The food will be there all night, and the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Those who have moved out will recieve texts on their bracelets inviting them to come to dinner. Also, for tonight the discomfort of entering someone else's welcome hall has been lifted, though only for those invited by someone who belongs to this House. Guests are more than welcome! Have a great time, and give us some smiles!]

Let's see -- I don't see much I don't recognise, but from Japan -- ah! Osechi ryouri!

This raisin pudding, for one.

This one? It looks good!

It's traditional New Year's food -- over here. See -- the pink and white colours are meant to evoke the good luck associated with the red and white we use when celebrating important events, bringing good things for the New Year.

It is good, especially with a bit of warm milk and cinnamon.

Is all this meant for one person? What are these?

For an entire household, for a few days -- you're not supposed to work over the New Year's period!

Um -- shrimp and salmon should be pretty self-explanatory. Again, it's the colour connection! The beans -- well, they're called 'mame' in Japan which sounds like the word for 'health'. Herring roe -- well 'herring' sounds like 'number' and the 'roe' is said like 'child' so this should encourage you to have many children, I suppose!

Ah, I see. So each food has a symbolic meaning? Interesting. Is that how you pick your new year's wishes?

Ha! No, I think Kaa-chan decided to try that one year ... that lasted all of half a morning before she gave up and decided to order from the department store! Only she'd left it too late and so we ended going out for dinner instead.

Department store?

It's a shop that sells everything! They tend to be pretty big with different floors. Usually food is in the basement, with fashion on floors one through three. They will usually have home-wares, stationary, maybe appliances and art!

The convenience comes at a price -- they can be pretty expensive! But usually they're good quality and the name and logo of particular department stores conveys a certain image.

That's not too bad! Problem is, most of our Hel housemates might be of the opinion that this is an easy way to make a point about how we feel about being here!
