Who: Riley and ANYONE
What: Riley is getting back into the swing of things and that means roof running.
When: D460
Where: Various districts...feel free to pick one.
Rating: PG for her mouth
Riley had been out of touch for a couple of weeks. Honestly, it had sucked because it had kept her from finding away to save Ellie or going down with her. It was a fucked up situation, especially with what her girlfriend knew about what her future was like. She hated that she couldn't be there for her back home but that was kind of the price of being, well, dead.
That really did come up a lot in her mind. Here she could do things for Ellie and be there for her but in the end they'd have to part ways because Ellie lived and she died. Perhaps she should have hated her for that, hated her for all the love she got from everyone too. It would have been fair really. Though it didn't seem like it, Ellie had it going on. People loved her and cared about her. They'd always put her first. Hell, Riley put her first too.
She was jealous. Who had actually given that much of a shit about her since her parents died? Well, besides Ellie.
Not a damn person.
Today, she just needed to clear her head. Then she could go back and be all smiles and laughter for Ellie again since that was what she needed. She needed her to be awesome as fuck and she had to make sure she had her head in the game for that. Which meant she was now running along rooftops, swinging along ledges. It wasn't anything anyone had taught her to do, she'd figured it out on her own and had the guts to bother to try. Practice had made her pretty damn good at it too.
Landing on another rooftop, she took a breath of air and planted her gloved hands on her hips. It was nice being alive. It really was.

For the first time, Riley pulled off the glove of her left hand to show a scar on it. Teeth.
"They didn't know what to do so Riley decided they'd take advantage of every second they had left. In the end, Ellie lived."
She didn't say that she'd died. It was obvious. Why bother saying it? Letting out a breath, she shrugged and looked up.
"That's the story."

"Riley was very brave." He says softly. "And I am very grateful that you would trust me with this. And... despite all the pains that Asgard brings, I am glad that it has brought you here, to have your second chance, and so that I could meet you."
This story, he knows, he will not forget - a gem to be kept hidden in his heart long after she is gone, and perhaps one day when the time is right, he will tell the story, in a different world to this one, but perhaps not.

"Yeah. This place is cool."
no subject
"I will never understand why your modern language has chosen temperature as it's choice for declaiming how good or bad a thing is."
More soberly. "Asgard has brought many second chances that they might not have had. I am glad that it has, for I would never have known you, else, and my life is the richer for it."

"No idea. But yeah, this place is nice. No idea what'll happen after but hey, I'll take it one day at a time."

Maglor tips his head in inquiry at the cooling tray of tarts. Want one?
no subject
"Wow. That was cheesy," she said around a mouthful of tart.

His face is carefully blank, but his eyes twinkle as he tips his head deliberately at her and says.
"Chew."
no subject
"Like this?"
Opening her mouth, she chewed the tart loudly and rudely with her mouth open for him to see. Just to be a brat.
no subject
"Exactly so, herunya. But perhaps you would like to close your mouth else you might lose that whole tart to crumbs on the table, and that would be a shame."
no subject
"This is good. It's nice and sweet." That was her bad habit of eating sweet things here coming out.

"I am glad it meets your approval. Think you Ellie might like some? I made plenty."

She'd noticed that look. For a second she thought about leaving it alone. However, she wanted to know more about him since he'd asked about her so...
"What was your mom like?"
/dumps Nerdanel headcannon on you
"Nerdanel was... strong. Physically, and emotionally. Father was fierce and often intemperate - she balanced him, calmed him. For a long time, she was the only one who could sway him from his course, once decided. But she had a restless heart - she liked to wander - in fact, that was how she met father! She was a sculptor of surpassing skill - they said of her that her statues looked almost alive. She was, in fact, a poor cook - father did most of the cooking when we were younger, and then it fell to us when we were old enough - but she loved to bake - the apple tarts were always a special treat, it was one of the few things she could make well."

"She sounds awesome..."
no subject
"I miss her - of all the things I regret, this one is perhaps the greatest, that I, that all of us, left her behind, and none had the courage to stay." Softly "She did not deserve that."
no subject
It probably had been something greatly important for him to do that. That was what she was assuming at least.

"Father went... a little mad. I can see that now. But it was a time of great confusion and fear - we, who had never known darkness, had lost all light, and then came the news that Formenos was attacked, grandfather slain and father's treasures stolen. And Father... he loved grandfather above all else, and the theft of his greatest work was insult to injury. He swore... to rest never until they were in his hands, irregardless of what he had to do to get them back. And we... my brothers and I... we swore the same."
"He... went to mother. Spoke to her with fire in his eyes and passion in his words, the same that stirred the hearts of all in the city. But mother is stone, the mountain's heart. She did not move. And she told him that if he went after the jewels, he would go without her. She... begged him to leave her even one son. He refused. And we... were too much cowards to stay - perhaps even then, the Oath was sinking its hooks deep into our hearts. So we left. And now I am the last, and I may never return home."
He smiles at Riley, if such an empty bitter thing can be called a smile. "So you see, you are not the only one who has done things regrettable. At the least you were brave enough to turn back."

Riley finally sipped at her tea. It wasn't as sweet as she would have liked but she didn't make a face and kept drinking it. It did taste good even without extra sugar or honey.
"What would you do if got the chance to go home to her? No strings attached."
no subject
"To forgive me, for leaving. For failing to save my brothers. For failing to save Father."
no subject
"Think she'd forgive you?"
no subject
"I... do not know. There are many who say what we did was unforgivable." Myself included
"And yet... " And yet, she is my mother, strong Nerdanel, wise Nerdanel, who saw clearer than all of us, on that day long ago

If that counted for anything.
