- Day 515 ( Sept. 25/26 )
- Progress through the ice blockade will be slow and narrow, as they can't possibly hope to clear the entirety of the forest that has been buried under Thiazi's black ice. Now that they know the source of her magic's corruption, it might not come as a great surprise when cracking open the ice unleashes a strange burst of magic.
At the halfway point between Utgard and Asgard, a pulse of energy will move through the entire city, immediately putting every mortal it touches to sleep. This part of the curse is mandatory and your character must fall asleep; the dream effects of it are not mandatory, and can be played with at your discretion. During this first wave, Travellers will be granted a brief dream - that does not belong to them. They will see, from the dreamer's point of view, every hope and goal and aspiration that the dreamer wishes to complete before the end of days. Whether it's simply confessing their love to an old friend or saving their home planet or perfecting an Asgardian pie, your character will see someone else's ideal resolution before Ragnarok. More on plotting this below!
Upon waking, the Travellers will be plagued with the indistinct whispering of several voices overlapping one another and a slight headache. Both symptoms will gradually increase over time until it reaches incapacitating pain and nausea. The only way to assuage the symptoms is to find the owner of the dream and either maintain physical contact for an hour or discuss the subject of the dream until a full confession has been made. After that, the symptoms will fade and the Travellers will be free to carry on with their day.
There will be other pulses of magic at random throughout the day; these are not mandatory and you can feel free to have your character experience as many or as few dreams as you wish. All dream-sharing will cease by the end of the day, as the blockade progresses past that centre-point of magic.

"Let's skip the small talk. Something weird's going on, and it's messing with my head."
no subject
Maybe if she starts with him...
"So what's stopping you from just going up to Gon and kissing him?"
no subject
And quiet enough that Killua's exclamation of utter shock turns heads. He drops his voice again in a hiss, eyes wide.
"What the hell?!"
no subject
Already this felt better. Maybe it was the discussion of his dream or maybe it was just that they weren't talking about her. She had no idea what it was but she liked it so far.
"He'd let you, I bet."
no subject
He seems to have momentarily forgotten about what he saw of her dream, and even the pain, flustered and confused and starting to turn red. There were disadvantages to being so pale.
"What are you talking about? This isn't funny!"
no subject
Riley smirks and leans back in her chair with her arms crossed. Oh she likes this one. It's actually fun.
"Seriously, just do it."
no subject
Utterly flabbergasted.
And super red.
no subject
She was no going to be letting this one go. No way in hell.
no subject
He's getting more and more distressed. Unfortunately, the more he denies it, the worse the pain gets too.
no subject
Riley smiles at him then leans forward to talk to him in a lower voice. "We'll deal with my fucked up stuff after. So how about we figure out how to get you to kiss Gon, okay?"
no subject
"I'm not going to do that. Just let it go, okay?"
no subject
It's a fair enough question. Especially given the circumstances. Riley even puts on a more serious look, really curious to know his thoughts on his friend.
no subject
"Why are we talking about this? You're being nosy."
no subject
"And you want to talk about stuff that you saw about me which makes you nosy too. So, come on, I nearly got myself killed by the military to get to my girl. It's not like I'm going to judge you."
no subject
He swallows, squirming in his seat and letting out a shaky sigh finally. He feels really sick, and the aching pressure behind his eyes is edging toward sharp pain.
"They're dreams, right? That was what it was. It's not real, so it doesn't matter. We don't have to talk about it. Or you."
Except they do-- because as soon as he says it, the pain gets worse and Killua hisses sharply, shaking his head.
"What the hell is going on?"
no subject
Riley puts her chin on her hand and looks off at nothing in particular. She knows what it's like for your best friend to be right there. To want to make a move then not doing it. Damn does she knows.
"I don't know what's going on either but I figure that if we talk about it then it'll probably help."
Sighing, she slumps back.
"I don't want to talk about it but I guess I better. What the hell did you see?"
no subject
"I saw you... As a ghost, I think. It seemed like it was in your world, and Ellie was there--"
He doesn't mention the fact he'd seen her body, but the fact he says she's a spirit should be hint enough. Killua has seen (and caused) a lot of death in his life, but seeing the corpse of a friend is never pleasant, even in a dream.
no subject
There's a reason she doesn't just go around telling people that she's dead. Sure some people know but not everyone and...
Looking at him again, she pulls off one of her fingerless gloves to reveal a bite scar.
"Yeah. I got bitten by one of the Infected. Basically, long story short is that I arrived here right after I died."
She sighs and looks down.
"Sooooo, Ellie gets to go home in the end and I go back to being dead."
no subject
"In the dream, you were Ellie's guardian spirit. You were going to watch over her. That's the feeling I got from it."
no subject
"...Did I look cool?" That's not at all what she should be saying but she just couldn't stop it from slipping out.
no subject
Killua nods, watching her face.
"Yeah. You looked pretty cool. You had gold sparkly stuff in your hair, and you could float." A pause, and he added quietly, "Ellie couldn't see you, but you were happy to be able to protect her somehow, anyway..."
no subject
"She and I got in a fight once and I ran away without saying goodbye. The night I died, I ran away from everything I'd ever wanted just to be with her again, to have her tell me she wanted me. I fucked things up and the Infected found us. I got her back and then I died. She's had to do a lot of really bad shit on her own and live with a lot of terrible things without telling anyone."
no subject
It's kind of sad, but he thinks he's starting to understand. Killua nods, listening.
The pain and nausea start to ebb, not as bad even if he doesn't feel completely better. Riley was right; talking seems to help.
"You must be really happy she's here in Asgard too."
no subject
She laughs a bit and goes to put the glove back on her hand, looking up at him. This is her last shot, the only thing she has left in the world. Outside of this place, she doesn't get to exist anymore except in memories. Sometimes that hurts way more than she wants it to but then other times she's glad that at least she'll exist there.
"But, I guess if everything really has to end then I'd want to be the guardian spirit to watch over her. Make sure she's okay." She shrugs. "Sounds dumb but as long as she needs me then I'm going to do all I can to be there for her. It's...it's all I want."
no subject
Killua looks away, withdrawn, thoughtful. A little sad, too. The words sound familiar, somehow, in his thoughts.
"I understand."
