- DAY 555 (Dec 14-15)
- As the last of the black ice is cleared from the city - and the last of its natives wake from their gray slumber - a cautious winter celebration begins. The city itself opens its doors wide to the allied forces still camped outside it and the natives invite the Travelers to observe the beginning of Winter and the approach of the end of the Asgardian year with them.
The day begins with what seems like a typical party in the streets. There is food, music, and an attitude of general warmth and hope from the Natives that hasn't been quite so present in a long time. It will be interrupted in the early afternoon by a snowball fight that starts in one sector of the city and quickly snowballs out of control. For a few hours, the city itself will become a veritable warzone, with most of the city's native children and adults alike getting in on the fight! Watch your back and take no prisoners. (NOTE: Please check THIS LINK for player plot information about the snowball fight!) - DAY 556 (Dec 16-17)
- Day 556 sees a brief return to old - and maybe familiar - tricks. The festivities continue on outside, but some Travelers throughout the course of the day may find themselves influenced by magical impulse… all in the name of good holiday fun, of course.
The effects of these miniature curses will last anywhere between ten minutes and an hour and happen spontaneously, and most of them are echoes of similar curses that have been laid upon the city before. Travelers may find themselves:- Unable to lie or actively compelled to blurt truths, consequences be damned
- Only able to communicate in poetry or song
- Given a nagging urge to (sincerely!) compliment anyone they come across
- Compelled to just hold hands with whoever they're near
- Caught under sprigs of magic mistletoe that seem to appear at arbitrary times at equally arbitrary places (though they can either be kissed or just wait a few minutes for it to disappear again)
Your character can be affected by as many and as often as you'd like, but none of them are mandatory. To reward the Travelers for putting up with that silliness one final time, they will find in their rooms that night a basket of chocolate, a horrendously ugly Christmas sweater, and one item from home. The item can be anything that fits within the game's technological and magical rules! If you'd like your character to receive something, please just drop a comment HERE to get it approved. - DAY 557 (Dec 18-19)
- Day 557 marks the final day of celebration. That evening, twinkling, magical fairy lights will cover the edges of buildings and the branches of trees all over the city. There are light displays of amazing proportion all over the city, and the Welcome Halls are done up in entirely their signature color. the Travelers will be invited into the castle again for a ball much like the one last year. Thor will announce the end of curfew and tell everyone to party hard, because the hunt for both Surt and a way to heal the World Tree will begin after this.
The party will last until midnight, when everyone will be shuffled out into the courtyard for a brilliant fireworks display. It represents both the victory over Thiazi and the hope that the celebration of this coming new year will not be the last.
[ This is the mingle log for the And A Happy New Year event. Please include your location and the IC day in your top-level comment or your subject line when starting a thread! ]
Open | All over the city
It seemed like the magic mistletoe was just out to get Adachi. He couldn't go anywhere in the city without being stuck with something happening, like him randomly reaching out to grab someone's hand. That was difficult enough to deal with on it's own, and usually met with sputtered apologies and a bright red face until he could finally let go of them.
The real problem was the random compliments; mostly because they happened around women. He was already having enough women trouble, he didn't need nor want more, especially since most of his compliments were more to their looks than anything else... and probably not all that much of a compliment. At least, the last time he checked, honestly telling someone they had a nice ass wasn't much of a compliment.
And then there was the honesty. Adachi didn't even like being honest with himself, let alone other people, but it went hand in hand with the compliments in being a huge problem. Last thing he needed was for one of the kids to come around... or worse, the Harley or Mari-chan.
[Day 557]
With everyone in the castle, Adachi elected to keep himself to the perimeter of the party, keeping an eye out for any problems, never mind that the castle had its own security force. At least, it sounded better than him being a wallflower, and gave him an excuse not to just grab a drink and drown away yet another holiday alone.
He followed everyone out once the fireworks started, letting out a faint sigh as he leaned against a pillar with his arms crossed, watching the sky light up.
[Day 556]
And then she saw Adachi, and she walked right up to him, aiming a hard slap in the general direction of his face. She planned to leave it at that, of course.

"...I missed you."
...and horrible, gut wrenching honesty came out instead.
no subject
Wait. Did she say that out loud?
no subject
"You deserve better," he said instead. Even if it was the truth, that wasn't how he wanted to try and get her to go away.
no subject
She said that out loud.
no subject
"...I wish I met you first," he muttered under his breath, before running a hand through his hair. No point now; he should just let it all out while he didn't have his own stupidity clogging the way.
"Yeah, the kids were right: I'm a murderer. I busted my ass for my entire life, being told that I would be going places. Instead I got shipped out to the boonies, given the scrap job that no one wanted. Then I saw a little thing that people said would show you your soul mate, and I was a dumb ass and believed it. Only the woman it said was supposed to be my soul mate was already having an affair with another man... and I lost it. I killed her, and I killed the person that was shown after her. 'Course after that, I figured out the whole 'soul mate' thing was bullshit, but..."
He trailed off, having trouble looking at her, but he still managed it.
"This place gave me a good job and... people I could actually care about. I don't deserve any of it, and it let me know back then. I don't deserve the job I've... somehow been allowed to keep. I don't deserve Harley... and I really don't deserve you."
no subject
"No... no, you don't, but here it is, and you had best make the most of it. There is no sense in ruining what chances you have left." She almost couldn't bear the sight of him - but that didn't mean she wanted him to suffer here. Besides, he would likely be executed for what he'd done... and that was good.
Wasn't it?
no subject
Damn her.
Damn her for being like the rest of them.
"Because," he finally said, his voice soft, "I just couldn't stand being empty anymore."
no subject
On the other hand, Adachi was a murderer - there was no denying that. He had even attempted to kill her. Whatever excuses he had, there weren't enough.
no subject
He just couldn't stop talking; he couldn't stop being honest with her, and he really wished he could, because this was getting too painful for him. It was one thing knowing his flaws -- he could pack them into a little box and shove them into the corner of his mind, refusing to acknowledge them. Saying them out loud... well, that was just cracking that box open and letting everyone around him get a peek an just how disgusting he was.
Adachi couldn't stand himself. He was pretty sure if he had ever needed to confront his Shadow, he would have died several times over.
"I'll never be able to make up for what I did," he continued. "There's no apology I can give, and no one would take it anyway. So... even if I..."
He trailed off his throat feeling swollen and his eyes burning. He wasn't crying himself... fuck that. Fuck this stupid honesty crap.
"Even if I care about someone, it's better they just stay away from me. Never mind whatever bond we've made."
no subject
Again, she shook her head. "Really, now, running isn't going to make your problems go away, nor mine." Ugh, she could really do without the blurting.
no subject
"So... while we have to be so damn honest with each other, mind if I do something I've wanted to do on my own for awhile?"

So of course she made a quick beeline for him and grabbed him firmly by the tie.
"Why the hell aren't I good enough for you?"
no subject
"H-Harley!?"
no subject
Damn it, she was mad! Certainly not tearing up. She just had ... allergies. From chopping onions. Not that she'd chopped any onions but just the thought of it was enough to make her eyes watery, obviously, that was a thing that happened to some people probably oh god damn it don't you dare cry, Harleen Frances Quinzel.
no subject
He was really starting to hate this honesty bullshit.
no subject
She dropped his tie and caught his hand, which was only mostly unintentional.
"I really like you, you dumb jerk." Wait, shit, that was supposed to be past tense. Wasn't it?
no subject
Crap.
"I do too," he blurted out, squeezing her hand. "I care about you both, and hell if I could ever choose between the two of you. But I don't have a future, and even if I did, it's not like we're going to be remembering anything here, right? So isn't it better this way?"
He felt like an idiot, and he really wished he could stop talking right now.
no subject
She was shaking as she squeezed his hand back and scrubbed at her eyes with the palm of her other hand.
"It's not like I have a future either, you know! But that's no excuse to have a miserable now!"
no subject
Dammit, he couldn't stand this; Adachi tugged her a little closer so she could lean on him and cry on his shoulder instead.
no subject
"We had something nice. We really coulda..." She took a deep, shaking breath. "If you wanted misery then you should've done it on your own time. You didn't have to do me like that."
no subject

Harley pulled her hand away and covered her face, letting out a long exhausted sigh.
no subject
This whole thing sucked.
