Day 421 ( Mar. 21/22 )

All throughout the day, the inhabitants of the Holy City will occasionally hear low rumbling sounds not unlike the beginnings of an earthquake, but nothing shakes or stirs beyond the quiet trickle of rain for most of the day. However, as the rain picks up and blots out the sunset, the rumbling grows louder just before a rift opens in the ground. Though it's not terribly deep, the split is two feet across at its widest and travels several hundred yards, starting from beneath the city wall at the corner of the Thor district and moving quickly into Loki's district. The ground nearby shifts somewhat with it and any buildings unfortunate to be affected will start to sink into the gap.

Any shouts of surprise or cries for help from this tear in the earth will be short lived, however, as large shards of ice begin to rip through the wall in various places throughout Sigyn and Hel's districts, piercing holes into anything - and anyone - in their path before shattering or melting. These are not directed or precise by any means; they fly in random places at random times. It may very well seem like the least coordinated attack ever and the Giants have really lost their game, but as the rumbling reaches its loudest peak, a burst of flame far outside the city wall may hint that it is not an attack at all. At least, not one intended for the Travellers.

To the east of the city, not nearly far enough from the thick wall that separates Asgard from the rest of Yggdrasil, a massive battle between the Frost Giants and the Fire Giants is being waged. What splinters off and reaches the city is purely by accident; collateral damage, as it were.

The shattering of rock and the splintering ice as well as bursts of flame and cracking of trees can be heard all throughout the night as more debris and stray projectiles find their way over the city wall. This can be anything from more needles of ice and much smaller cracks in the ground to flaming stones and sheets of hail. For now, these will remain small things that come over the wall rather than through it, but feel free to play around with what exactly comes your way.

Day 422 ( Mar. 23/24 )

The battle continues on into the next day, and by early morning, the city guard will ride through the city to alert everyone as to what's happening beyond the gates. From what they can see, Thiazi's army is pushing Surt's back and away as the Fire Giants attempt to encroach forward. They know of little else, but the battle is coming closer and closer to the city, which means the collateral damage will continue to worsen.

This is where the decision whether or not to fight will come in! The decision will be left to the Travellers in whether they ride out to force the Giants out of Asgard's land or simply bunker down and wait out the war. All action and inaction comes with a list of pros and cons, so consider it carefully before settling on your decision today.

A Special Note: As of the beginning of this event, god-given powers will now work outside of the Asgard. More information on this OOCly is forthcoming, and characters involved in the plot please be on the lookout for contact from us! Please feel free to assume that all Travelers have been made ICly aware of the fact that they can now use their powers outside of the city now.

D421 evening | Sigyn district | open!

[In a wide, exposed street from which anyone sensible would have run for cover by now, a teenage boy can be found doubled over in the shadow of a building, clutching at... something. A jagged, fist-sized lump of old brick rests by his boots, just a few precarious feet away from a yawning gap in the paving. From the tips of his spiky hair, a couple of thin little plumes of smoke curl upwards into the sky - though with so much of it in the air, not to mention the dim light interspersed only by chaotic gouts of flame along the divided street, they probably aren't easy to notice. In any case, he hasn't. He's currently a bit too preoccupied with hopping up and down in obvious pain.

[He doesn't even think twice before violently grabbing his friend away from the hole in the ground by the collar to some place slightly safer amongst all the rubble, and then tearing off his coat and patting down his friend's head to make sure that the hair doesn't burst on fire. Kaworu Nagisa (Tabris) || Open

Day 421 : LOKI/SIGYN DISTRICT
[ When he first heard the rumbling, Kaworu expected it to be followed by an Earthquake, like last time. However, this time it didn't come. he didn't relax, however, because when something feels wrong, in this place, something wrong WILL happen even if only after a few couple of days.

He is walking home to his house in Loki district, never using an umbrella (Kaworu loves rain. He doesn't use umbrella no matter how heavy the rain is), when suddenly the rift opens. At least he is not too close to it, but he is surprised enough to step away before his brain registers that it may be an attack, even if sloppy.

However, the screams from Sigyn district make the angel turn his head and because his mind quickly works towards "People I love may be in danger", Kaworu rushes there, in time to see the shards of ice poking holes through the walls, the ground and... well, people. The angel does help, reaching for a hurt native who got his arm pierced and after pulling the ice out, Kaworu proceeds to heal him. It's during this that he sees the burst of flames, causing the red eyes go wide. ]

What is happening? [ he isn't talking to anyone in particular.

And by pure chance he moves a step left, just in time to escape a sudden shard of ice that emerges from the ground and almost hit him ]


Day 422 : ANYWHERE
[ Kaworu didn't sleep that night. He was helping the wounded, and he also got burned on his arm by a flaming stone - he doesn't look too worried about it, however. As matter of fact, it looks as if he didn't even notice it.

However, he is using too much of his power. Though he is at level 3 of Healing, after a day and a night of healing people, eventually he just becomes tired and a bit slow when moving. You may find him resting a bit against a building, sweaty and tired, with his arm burned (probably second degree burns, which hurt a lot, but... well. There are other things to worry about right now).

he needs to contact some people, but he will probably do that after he rested. ]

[There really wasn't much that Anna could offer in terms of help during the goings on in the city. Even with her powers, the most she could do was stay with the injured that were brought to a single location. She could keep people calm while they were being treated, but that really was all. She didn't like being behind everyone else, but she knew she'd just get in the way if she went out there.

She'd been walking around, checking on people, offering drinks of water or small bites to eat when she spotted Kaworu leaning against a wall. He looked tired--no--exhausted. Her brows knit with worry as she stepped closer, clearing her throat a little to catch his attention.]

Hey, uh...hi. I don't know if you, well, remember me. I'm Anna. We've talked a little bit before...

[She hesitated and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.]

You look like you could use a break.

Day 421 : HEIMDALL DISTRICT
[ Ame woke up with the rumbling. It is not at all like the earthquake, so it doesn't give him that specific uneasy feeling he has come to learn what it means, but he is still very uneasy because it can't be good.

The wolf pup moves outside, where he expects to find the nug as usual, but the animal is nowhere to be found. Something IS incredibly wrong.

And when the screams and panic starts, the wolf's ears stand up and eyes go wide, set on nothing in particular, serious. Trying to listen, trying to understand, trying to feel. Before he dashes towards the screams to see what is going on and, of course, to help whoever needs him.

You may find him rushing towards Hel district and he may bump into you, since he is set on getting to the place where the screaming is from and may not see what's in front of him ]


Day 421 : ANYWHERE
[ The thing about Ame's power is that he takes other people's injuries onto himself. And that is actually incredibly painful; being at the third Level, he can take the full injury and pain, however, he has learned to only take a bit at the time enough to make it bearable for both himself and the person he is helping.

But after a whole night, helping here and there, eventually he stops in the morning and sits down. He has been crying, too, since it does hurt a lot - but he doesn't sob or wail. He sniffs, hiccups from time to time, but other than that he is rather silent, cleaning his tears away with the back of his hand and he watches the city. ]

Day 421

[With how long a day it's been, Minato wished it would let up so he could have a break. He'd been using his shadow power extensively today, to the point he's now exhausted.

And then he spots a familiar kid, who looks like he's been through hell, and that's enough for him to ignore his own not-too-serious injuries.]

Top of a building
[ When it all started, that's where Satan flew to in order to see. Up ahead, away from the city, he sees th flames, and down in the streets, the ice and the rift, and the natives and travelers in panic.

Aha, you come few days too late, giants. had you decided to attack during the funeral, things would have been so much easier.

The angel sits down, observing. There is no expression on his face, but deep inside, oh, this is perfect. Nostalgic even. However, at the same time he is not all that pleased. Though this is not a direct attack to the city, the giants are fighting each other. And that is idiotic. it seems like things got harder for Satan; if the giants were fighting together, they could win, but divided? No. they are children. Brats.

Still, he will think about that later. Right now, he will enjoy the show. ]


Down on the ground
[ Satan lands gracefully on the ground, before he spreads his wings once and tucks them closer to his body again. Around him, people are hurt, crying, screaming, helping each other, helping the wounded, trying to keep the city safe.

And Satan, with his white suit and neutral expression, simply keeps walking up ahead, as if the people around him don't even exist. He avoids any debris, he keeps focus on the possible incoming ones and heads home over the Freyr district.

Eventually, he also uses his powers to float a meter above the ground, instead of walking - it's easier to avoid rocks and ice and flames and people.

You can, of course, approach, if you'd like but don't expect help from him. ]

The Doctor spots him, just barely, and skids to a stop. Wow. ]

421/422 Open

Option A - 421: Anywhere in the City

Samantha can be found easily. Most of the time, she's putting out fires in Sigyn, Loki and Thor, so to speak, but she's still visible throughout the city, attempting to keep things coordinated. Blessedly, the 'attack' isn't coordinated enough to do real harm, but keeping people from losing themselves in the chaos and helping where she can seems to be the best use of her time.

As evening wears on, and the armies begin to loom closer, she's got an oddly determined look in her eyes.

Option B - 422 Early Morning: The Arena

She didn't come up with the idea, and she's not going to take credit for it, but it's brilliant and everything in her features says she loves the whole concept. Breaking into enemy lines and posing as members of their forces to cause as much havoc and added dissension with their god-given powers to deflect real suspicion as they force an early conclusion is just the sort of deceptive, manipulative and underhanded crap that she actually likes using as tactics in a serious fight.

She does not use the network to advertise it, but sends word via more traditional means that anyone wishing advice on posing as members of the Fire Giant army should come to the Arena. They will find her there just before dawn, dressed like one of the lesser fire giants. Only her face, which is visible, makes it clear who she is. She's there and ready to give a fast, crash course in what the fire giants are like, the tactics she's seen while lurking in Muspelheim, their style of language and the weapons the least of them use, along with cheap, dirty ways to produce fire that could work in a pinch even for those not of Odin.

Option C - 422 The Rest of the Day: The Front (Fire Giant Posing)

Festooned with a collection of molotov cocktails, wearing a loose-fitting cloak that covers the dragon-scale body suit she's kept for just these sorts of occasions, Samantha spends most of her time on 422 sneaking into the fray and using her abilities to boost anyone from Asgard who needs a boost and cause as much damage as possible. Though the armor doesn't make her immune to fire, it's been treated with dragon blood and does offer very brief moments of resistance to natural flames that let her get close enough to help pose as one of the fire giants, in order to attack the Frost and further confuse them.

She'll work with people in pairs only, but switch out whenever necessary. When not hurling or making quick and dirty molotovs, she's got her sickle and chain in hand and moving stealthily around the fight at its fringes to cause as much havoc as possible.

If there was fighting to be done, Fergus was going to ensure that he had a part in it. He had been tired of wasting time around the Thor district lollygagging and was was glad that there finally a brawl or battle to be fought. Posing as a giant might not have been his kind of idea or tactic to addressing the problem but he had no problem going along with it to get out on the field.

"Guess I'll finally see what it takes tae make a giant cry."

422 - Open (Frost Giant Posing)

Kin is harder to pick out than most. She definitely didn't come up with this plan, but the idea of getting down and dirty in the middle of the fighting and pretending to be one of the enemy sounds like fun. It's an excuse to cause all kinds of trouble, and she's not turning the chance to actually do something down. She's been itching for a fight, and so she'll be out in the middle of the thick of things.

For the most part, she's not able to really pose as a frost giant well, other than with clothing, so she's sticking to knifing the giants in the back when nobody's looking and engaging in good, old-fashioned melee combat. Her supplies, other than mundane ones, are mostly back in the city. This fight isn't serious for her, and she won't waste precious supplies when she has plans for them soon.

(OOC: Because I've been told it's unclear: Kin is posing as a Frost Giant, and is attacking the Fire Giants as part of the group trying to confuse the enemy.)

Give it a few days from now, and Kimberly wouldn't have believed what she was doing here. Even with her power, it wasn't the most agressive sort and these were freakin frost and fire giants. What a time to have her power coin not work.

Learning her lesson from the previous day, Kim stuck to dark cloths that she didn't care got burned or torn up. They were also better camouflage than anything brightly colored, and the smoke gave her a good cover to get in on attacks.

While it wasn't her power bow, she'd had enough practice and training that she was still a skilled archer, using the confusion to take out the enemy. At one point she has her arrow aimed, but then she sees them stab another giant and she quickly realizes that it's one of them.

Movement catches her eye. One of the other giants caught wind of their 'double dealing' and headed towards the two of them. Less than a second later, Kimberly pulls back and loosens are arrow right at their head.

She's already pulling out her newly bought machete incase it wasn't a kill shot. Unlike her power bow, this didn't give her an infinite number of arrows.

D421 evening | Sigyn District | OTA

He knew that smell, unfortunately. After the earthquakes, smoke and ash that foretold of burning buildings make him realized it was best to get out and help. As he ran down, pieces of ice pierced their roof, crashing right into his plants, sending shards of glass everywhere. Grabbing his weapons before another piece slammed into a window, thankfully not damaging beyond repair, he counted himself lucky that no one was injured.

He looked up and heard the sounds of panic and fighting, yet he couldn't see a battle; only damage. It was like rain of icy death, and while their building had gotten lucky, looking around not everyone was fortunate. A cry nearby alerts him of wounded and he runs over. Many of the civilians have been caught in the torn earth and the shards of ice. People are stuck under buildings.

He opens his bag and throws dirt on the ground so he can properly grow vines to help him...but even with that, it simply isn't enough to be able to lift off the rocks blocking this person. He looks around before spotting someone else.

"Help me out please!"

Kate has a habit of running toward the sound of danger - maybe it's a bad habit, human and squishy as she is, but it's part of being a hero, and she'd rather run into trouble than run away while someone else gets hurt. She skids to a halt as she rounds the corner and sees the chaos, shattered pieces of ice and bleeding civilians, rubble spilling into the street. Damn it. This isn't something she can fight, but maybe she can help.

She fixes her attention on the nearest person shouting for help - someone who, like her, seems to be uninjured but also looking to help. Good. She can't be the only one dealing with this mess. Kate runs over, biting her lip as she comes close enough to see the trapped person beneath the rubble.

"I... I think I can help. Maybe. Guess this is as good a time as any to figure out which power I got..." Man, she really hopes it's strength now. She hopes she can make it work. She hasn't been able to so far, but maybe the added adrenaline will be enough to kick it into gear.

Day 422 | Heimdall District | open

Barristan was watching, warily. He was not sure if he should go and fight or not. The most important thing was keeping Daenerys (and by extension, Viserys) safe. Would they be better served with him standing a watchful guard, a last line of defence should they need it or would he be better used going out and fighting?

These giants were nothing like he had seen before, having never been north of The Wall and he was doing a quick study of their tactics before he made up his mind. He was use to none dead, after all.

Days 421/422 | Anywhere | Open

[So much for being prepared. He'd kept his sword by his side, and even practiced his shadow power to become a weapon. But now that he's experiencing his first real war event, he's been using it more as a shield, and not too effectively. He could only cover so much area with one shadow. It'd protect him maybe, but there are civilians out there who weren't blessed with such protection. In fact, one shard of ice was headed right in a person's direction, and immediately he ran towards them, using his shadow to block it. But there was still other debris flying about just from the building damage alone.

This was very bad.]

[As he moved to block the ice shard, striking errant and further into the city, debris was crashing around the two of them. When one a beam nearby was starting to creak and collapse, another figure came out of the edge of his vision. They pushed at the beam, and though they couldn't hope to keep it up, they turned the direction a little, helping to keep it from causing more trouble.

As they turned towards Minato, the dust settling around them, the red-head he'd met a while back resolved a little from the dust.]

Well, looks like their aim's turned to shit. You two ok?

[ The person Shinji reaches for may or may not feel something suddenly knock them into another direction and away from the flying debris that resulted from ice breaking through a wall of a building. He'd tackle this person out of harm's way if he needed to. (and likely to happen, if you're bigger than this barely 5-foot tall teenager.)

Whether you thank or want to yell at him, feel free. At least you're not the one with blood trickling down your face, now, from taking a hit of debris to the head. Shinji would be! ]

[ The day will become night. And then the night will become the next day. It didn't matter; Shinji's time will be spent helping in the city and assisting in the damage control and aid as one of the Medical corp. members and lending energy to travelers who need it.

Rest would be the last thing on the former pilot's mind until his fatigued body felt even more sluggish and he begins to feel lightheaded. It would be the only time Shinji would take shelter somewhere and rest for a bit to recharge himself. His Energy Lending was really taking it's toll. He was also only level 2, so he can only give so much of his energy unless you want him to pass out. He's going to try not to let that happen like last time with the Frost giants.

Try to. It's hard to say because here he is, pale and walking carefully like he was on a rocking boat (he felt that lightheaded, now.), approaching you, the person he spotted. Whether you are a traveller with a power that could use some energy, he's lending it. Or if he sees a burn or wound on you, he will go through his Medical Corp. bag to be your aid. ]

[ Since figuring out how to use her power, Kate figures she can at least be useful in the middle of the chaos, pulling people out of especially shattered buildings or helping the wounded to help. It's not much, but you can't fight flying death shards, so she has to work with what she's got.

She is more or less looking for signs of the next disaster when someone shouts from just behind her - and before she can turn, she's being tackled to the ground by someone about half a foot shorter than her, knocking the wind out of her. ]

Ow... [ It's a breathless hiss as she tries to push herself upright. ] Was that really necessa- geez, are you okay?

Day 421 ( Mar. 21/22 )/Day 422 ( Mar. 23/24 )

Ril is busy both days, running between Time & Tea and the hospital, both patching folks up, getting the seriously wounded proper treatment, and in some cases performing on the spot surgeries if the situation calls for it and transport is too dangerous. Sometimes, she goes out and hauls folks back with her.

Catch her where you can, she's ready to lend a hand in every way possible. At the start of things, she's making up aid kits to give out to people who need them, and dropping them by people who can't quite make it out. If there's an emergency call that comes in across the city, she's on that as well.

Day 422 may see her dealing with the worst trauma cases, and the most amount of surgery as the situation worsens.

Day 422

Hawkeye had finished patching up a native himself when he approached Ril, keeping a close eye on her as she worked. He knew what she was like, and he knew she was too sick to go at the rate she's used to.

"Pacing yourself, Ril?" he asked, casually as he could, though his eyes on her were serious.

Yuiko Hawatari | Open

Option A: Day 421 Loki/Thor District

It might have been curiosity that killed the cat, however that doesn't stop Yuiko from going outside and investigating when the rift opens down the street after the rumbling that had been going on all day. She made sure to grab a raincoat since it seemed to be in a different district, though once she found it, Yuiko could be found looking down into the gap and occasionally tossing a stone down it curiously; but at the same time she doesn't get too close to the opening.

Option B: Day 421 Hel District

When the shards of ice began breaking through the walls, Yuiko started to hurry back to the Freya welcome hall, following directions from the adults that told her to go home. However, after hearing that Hel had been hit by the ice as well as Sigyn she was worried and went towards it to check on Ritsuka and Soubi's friend.

She had slipped and fell a few times when knocked out of the way by someone else, but she kept getting up and trying to make it to the Hel welcome hall. It was just in sight when Yuiko let out a scream, a sharp pain shooting through her leg as a shard of ice hit it and caused her to collapse to the ground. Trying to catch herself Yuiko flung her hands in front of her trying to catch herself, causing her bracelet to go sliding several feet away as she crashed against the pavement. Crying Yuiko clutched at her leg, hands scuffed and bruised; it wast a life threatening injury but it was serious enough she wouldn't be able to walk on it for a few days at least without help.

Well, she certainly knew how to catch attention.

The Doctor was a decent distance away when he heard her, and immediately turned to see what that was about. She wouldn't have to worry about not being able to walk, because he had level 3 Healing and was more than happy to use it.

When he spotted her, he practically fell down to sit beside her.

"Hello! Got a bit of a problem?"

ADAM, BOTH DAYS, OPEN.

An ice shard sluces through the air past him, cutting the sleeve of his jacket and leaving him with a (thankfully) shallow indication of the predicament they seem to find themselves in. He sighs, clearly put-upon, and starts to look for cover. He travels through the street, still, but not without being alongside a building, a tree, or some other immovable structure.

"I had grown rather fond of this jacket," Adam laments to anyone within earshot.

day 422, anywhere.

Adam is having a rare crisis of faith. Or rather, a rare public one. He rolls his sleeves up to reveal the cut from the day before - already pink and halfway-healed. At least his body can still repair minor damage with success. He can be seen on a bench in the park or strolling through the districts, trying to catch the tail-end of conversations as his fellow travelers decide whether or not to take up arms, yet again, for the gods.

If this is to be his final resting place, should he not make it count? Should he not join who he could in fact, not beat? At the same time, his death loomed over this place like an ever-present rain cloud and thusly anything he do seemed inconsequential and out-of-place. He drinks tea and frets and paces and frets some more, as his English ancestors had taught him to, though he did so hate being lumped in with them, even here.

Upon approach, Adam will be jumpy, his nerves frayed. Though he will be just as quick to offer a smile and an errant comment about the weather. Even without the sun, it is starting to warm up to usher them into Spring it would seem. If they can survive this bloody long winter.

"Looks to me like the jacket's the least of your problems," Stilinski remarks, glancing down at the tear in the other man's jacket.

It looks like he got lucky. There are far worse things an ice shard could do than rip his jacket, maybe graze his arm a little. If he doesn't focus more on finding cover then he still might find that out first hand. Even taking advantage of the shelter provided by the wall of the building he's alongside Stilinski knows he's still at risk, but it beats being out in the open street by a long shot. "You want to get over here?"

D421 evening | Hel district | OTA

[Kevin's already holed up in his room for the night when the ice ripped through his wall, right above where he lays. He screams, rolling off the bed. Another piece of ice pierces the right beside the first. He runs out of the room, slamming the door behind him, and rushes outside, despite the rain.]

Day 421-422 OTA
To say that Maglor is unhappy to be in a strange city without his brother or Elros is an understatement. To be in a strange city under attack is even worse. He has threatened spoken to the natives enough to understand that the bracelets indicate where they belong, but he is not leaving Elrond alone in a situation like this. They set up camp in the Park, and Maglor paces, sword in hand, ever watchful.

Day 422 closed for bitty!Elrond
An attack on the city by giants Maglor sighs grimly. The guard are asking for aid, and while this is exactly the sort of thing that he knows he should get involved in, even if this is not his fight... he has Elrond to consider. Elrond, who is looking at him with that stubborn look on his face he is coming to recongise.

"No, hinya. You may not go out to fight."

Maglor was coming to know Elrond well. He certainly knew what the elfling wanted to do in this situation. Fight. Even if it wasn't their fight, he wanted to help. Why didn't Maglor understand?!

"I am no longer a child. I have the right to fight."

[The second he finds out that there are large shards of ice ripping through walls, through people in Sigyn and Hel, the first thing Robb does is head straight into Hel, dodging spikes of ice along the way and looking incredibly worried and determined.

See, with Jon's recent departure (and hadn't that been a heavy blow), Robb has been keeping a closer eye on the family he does have left--and right now? He's afraid for Arya, which is why he's gone straight for Hel. He has to get her out, has to keep her and what little is left of his family here safe, and if that means walking straight into danger, then so be it.]

Arya! [He calls out her name every so often, and it's obvious that he's been at it for some time. Behind him is Grey Wind, and the both of them look like they've definitely seen better days--besides his missing hand, there's a fresh cut on Robb's cheek where a shard managed to graze it, and Grey Wind is limping slightly, but both of them are not about to leave without Arya and Nymeria.

It doesn't mean that Robb isn't going to talk to anyone, nor does it mean that he won't give aid to anyone else who needs it.

Later on, once he's sure that Arya's safe (and Bran, and Sansa), he'll be all over the city, either getting as many people as he can out of Sigyn and Hel or taking a break somewhere away from either district, though the latter will be a rarer occurrence than the former--he's doing as much as he can for reasons that, while good, aren't entirely altruistic.

After all, you can't think about the people you've just lost when you're trying to get someone to safety, without either of you getting hit by sharp spikes of ice.]

[They're both looking for people, it seems, and Isaac is happy that he can at least spot a familiar face in the madness. Ice is raining down over everyone and he's seen more than a few people be impaled by it. He's just thankful that Robb is in one piece.

DAY 421.

[ Hermione is a little too used to the unexpected happening at Asgard and when she feels the tremors, the shaking of the ground, she isn't as terrified as she might have been a couple of months ago. She's felt them before and she moves out, shifting and moving out of her house; when she steps out of her home in Thor her eyes widen and she feels something twist in her stomach. She's far too quick to run down and investigate it, to make sure that nothing is coming out of the rift that might end up endangering her friends -

but, of course, the only thing that comes out are the shards of ice that rip through the air around her, piercing her - and one slams into her shoulder quickly enough that she can barely move other than to stumble back. It's not enough to stop her, though, and she reaches up to wrap her hand around it and press with her hand, to try and melt it before it causes any more pain. She can feel the blood already, the cut of the ice through her skin and she bites back the sound of pain as she does what she can to push through it.

It's not the worst pain she's ever felt. She can do this.

When she finally stands and looks around Hermione catches sight of what is going on outside the wall and her expression pales, her heart in her throat. The Giants. Unable to do anything about the rift, Hermione stumbles forward and looks around to see if she can do anything else to help someone else, ignoring the fresh wound in her shoulder and the fear rushing through her body. ]

DAY 422.

[ The next day finds Hermione standing outside her house again, rigid in her worry and panic. She's staring out at the battle raging on, completely out of her hands, watching the guard coe through and explain things - and that means there has to be a choice. Her expression settles into something more stern and she frowns, eyebrows furrowing.

They have to do something and, even as she sits, hand on her hurting shoulder, she's thinking hard about what they can do. ]

[It's not long past dawn. There's a faint sound of shifting. A figure plops down onto the ground, staring out into the distance, to where the sides are fighting. When it speaks, the voice is raspy, familiar. However, at a glance it looks like someone dressed just like the fire giants.]

[ Hawke spends most of the day outside, running around and doing what she can to be of help to people. Normally, this would coincide with a sarcastic comment and a quick, witty jab but this time around? She's doing what she can to be kind, quick and helpful - now isn't the time to play around. Anyone that needs help can call out for her and she will come to their aid with both her greatsword and her Strength. ]

[ Today, Hawke is working with the guard, organising things as much as she can and, yes, ordering people around. She's gotten quite good at it, nowadays, and she's as stern as she needs to be and kindly otherwise. Again, if anyone needs her she'll be dashing to their aid but, given the chance, she'll be sitting in a quiet place somewhere to catch her breath. ]

[well, this is certainly enough to snap Killian out of his drinking binge, that has been brought on by the many failed attempts at breaking and entering the castle, and finding anything of use to get out of this cursed land.

he's not one to really go out of his way to protect anyone, but he's not one to leave people to meet a senseless end either, so he helps out when he hears a cry for help.

for someone he cares for however, he'll go the extra mile. he's gotten quite good at noticing warning signs that give him those precious few seconds to know another nasty bit ice is coming. and when that warning seems to come near Hawke, he hurls himself at her, pushing the both of them out of the way just in the nick of time.]

Well, not the worst thing that could happen. [he half smiles as he lies on top of her, not all that eager to move.]

day 421: hel district

[ this is irene's first experience with the destruction that the war can cause in asgard, and to be completely honest - it's not to her liking. she's much more useful when it comes to negotiations, discussions, and a good bit of whipping on the side; this large scale destruction isn't her area of expertise and she's understandably caught off guard by it. she'd been doing a bit of shopping in hel (regardless of the tremors in the earth) when the rain had covered the sun (not that that was anything new, she did live in england).

it was the shard of ice nearly running her through that garnered her complete and total attention to the area around her as she dropped the umbrella she was carrying and fled to find some sort of cover.

the second shard of ice around five inches long pierced her arm just as she ducks behind a building, and she hisses and slides down the wall, holding just above the injury and forcing herself to breathe out of her mouth and willing the pain to fade. the ice is stuck there and doesn't seem to be melting - irene grits her teeth. eventually, she'll have to pull it out. but now, she'd rather figure out what the hell was going on. ]

[This isn't Sherlock's first time experiencing what the frost giants are capable of. Not the first instance of subterfuge, hardly the first time they've breached the walls to wreak havoc within the city itself. It's becoming rather old news, in fact, and it's in the midst of wondering what that says about him, that it's all so comfortable in spite of the three year span of new time shoved into his skull, that he happens across her.

His first expression is wariness, not the frightened sort but the cagey sort one directs at a wounded animal which might as soon bite the hand that offers help — though in this case it wouldn't be so much the result of misunderstanding as spite and caprice. He doesn't trust her, and he knows she doesn't trust him. That's reason enough to keep walking.

He doesn't, though. One isn't supposed to, and frankly he's grown tired of being unacceptable.]

Generally speaking it's inadvisable to towards anything marginally familiar in this place.

[Which is, of course, why he's here after having hardly left the house for days. In the absence of any other meaning, one defines oneself by the inadvisable, uses its sharp edges to suss out the shape of one's own limbs. It's arguable that that's also why he unwinds the scarf from about his neck, not quite like the one from home but still very much his, and stretches the fabric flat. Clean enough, suitably absorbent for a makeshift bandage. He kneels, knocking gently at her hand with his knuckles to encourage her to let go of her arm so he can tie the scarf firmly but not too tightly around it. He doesn't bother to met her eyes, talking instead to the wall just above her shoulder.]

On the other hand you may as well grow used to it now. Being expendable.

[ 421 - For Leonardo. ]

He hasn't slept.

That's nothing new, but a night of charging in and out of burning buildings, of breaking and mending most of the bones in his leg, of trying -- futiley -- to locate those people he most needs to, has left him even stiller ill at ease. There's more to be done than ever, now that they've the light of day to see it by.

But there also standing appointments, existing routine, and Albus is loathe to push this aside any further. Not when he's just broken another damn pair of the mangled spectacles tucked into his pocket.

He lingers outside the cafe (Sigyn district, they'd both agreed), smoothing tangled hair into fitter place, and picking a stubborn flake of ash from his shirt-collar. It would be self-delusion at its roaring finest to claim he looked anywhere in the general vicinity of 'respectable', but calm and collected he can manage handily.

Pushing open the door -- and pausing, briefly, to hold the door open for a small gaggle of natives -- Albus sweeps into the room, searching for sign of Leonardo's presence. Excitement threatens to overcome his weariness, even if only for a moment. It's not every day that one receives the opportunity to meet a boyhood hero, much less under such extraordinary circumstance.

There's no pause in the turmoil, but there never is here. Hauling himself up with a final heave, Albus flops onto the roof gracelessly, his breath heavy. He's never been so inclined to athletics as others, and with the ache in his leg dogging him, even sheer damn stubborn willpower has its limits.

You're getting old, He thinks grimly, and that really sends him laughing, face cradled in his hands as he sits up to get his feet beneath him.

The roofs are a good place to think, and a better place to see -- higher now, he's a better vantage of the fighting beyond the wall, a marginally better guess of just how quick it may be on them. New information or not, the answer's still the same: Too soon.

Caught up as he is in the heavy drone of deliberation, it's not until a small scrape sounds behind him that Albus finally realizes that he's not alone.

Maybe it's not the best place to not be seen these days -- but the rooftops were her and Riley's solace back before the world went to hell, and a good bit of parkour never hurt anybody.

With her bow in hand and gun slung across her back, Ellie has stationed herself on a rooftop near the walls, where she can study the battle and shut out the people arguing about what the hell to do. The fighting is closer now, more dangerous. The battle in Alfheim is still too fresh in her mind, and she can't help but remember the death toll, how desperate things got. If the giants break the walls, they could all be dead.

The sounds and scrapes of someone climbing up breaks her concentration. Quickly, she scoots behind a chimney, tucking her small body up against the side, and she waits for her unexpected company to settle down. Nearly a minute ticks by before she chances a peek outward, and her rifle tags the brick with a little scraping noise.

Thankfully, the face is a familiar one, and she allows for a hopeful smile.

[Since the first signs of battle the first day and well into the second, the redhead will have found a perch on the wall. Perhaps it's one of the most precarious places to sit and likely not one of the safest, but the guard isn't able to move him.

Eventually they leave the silent observer alone, he's not getting in their way - even brings food and drink from Odin when he arrives. Feel free to find Lavi tucked away somewhere just out of normal sight.]

Hel 421. elsewhere later in the day. Open.

[Quentin is in Hel house, and is unfortunately smack in the middle of the district when everything goes to shit. He's out in the street when the rift opens, and is magician enough to know that a tear like this is a harbinger of some pretty big energies and also probably a sign that something is about to go spectacularly fucking wrong.

Unfortunately for Quentin, the sensible reaction isn't always enough to get through an adventure like this unscathed. Even as he runs for his life, the ice starts blasting into the city around him and the streets. He heads straight into the line of fire of one shard, for a narrow miss, but isn't so lucky with the fallout; the projectile shatters hard when it hits the wall behind him, and about a hundred splinters of ice that feels as strong as glass explode into his lift side, catching him from hip to shoulder to cheek.]

Christ!

[He only screams once, and then goes down, badly. He isn't unconscious, thank God, but the pain is momentarily blinding, never mind the blood pouring down the side of his face. He tries to stagger up and keep running.]

[Later that day, he'll be elsewhere in the city, trying to find his way to a hospital or clinic, moving gingerly. It isn't life threatening, but it is very ugly, and it is safe to say that Quentin is a pretty alarming sight to come upon.]

[And Booth, well. He's exceedingly good at being alarmed. Never one for the front lines, he's been fidgeting around the city, trying to stay out of trouble. Of course, when he sees someone in pain, there's a moment of hesitation, but... in the end, he affixes his courage to the sticking place (as it were) and walks over to Quentin to... dither.]

[Booth is a very pale fellow, over six feet tall, with prematurely white hair. His dithering is quite obtrusive.] O-oh, my, er. Sir? Is there anything- that is, I can help you to the hospital, if you... [Booth is also exceedingly shy. Despite being a thirty-year-old adult man, he ends up trailing off awkwardly, not sure what to say.]

Day 421: between Hel and Heimdall

Between the fire and Earthquakes, Sonya saw no point in holding class, even when they didn't need much in way of supplies. School provided a distraction, that was true, but it would need to be a hell of a distraction to work against what was going on.

The Hel district was right next to her own, but even with that distance, Sonya still heard the screams coming from that part of the city. The Earthquakes seemed to settle from the previous day, allowing her the chance to bring out her motorcycle: it's faster than walking and right now she needs it to check on what's going on. Seeing the giant ice spikes in the district, Sonya quickly turns and floors it back to Heimdal to suit up. Not, in this case, for combat, but for search and rescue.

She spends the rest of the day rushing around the district. Random as the icles are, there's always a noise that preludes them and she's able to pull people out of the way just in time. Sometimes though, she's not so lucky and uses her cycle to drive people to safer districts.

One such person is a faceless native who had their leg crushed by flying debris. She's able to stop the bleeding with a tourniquet, but there's the matter of getting them to the clinic for further work.

Day 442: outside the city
The fight closing in on the city, Sonya's not one to just stand by and wait till the giants enter. The casualties will only grow if they just stand around and wait it out. From what she was able to see over the wall, the two armies only seemed interested in fighting eachother.

She wasn't about sides in this one, not after what's happening with the city. Frankly, the whole thing is pissing her off and if she didn't care what happened with this place, it was starting to change now-either that or the whole 'immortals using this as their playground' was starting to get to her.

Sonya joined the others in fighting, dressed in black robes as a disguises. Fighting in such clothes was tricky, but it meant she could get in close to the giants to finish them off.

She's just killed one before she seems a fellow Traveler about to get ambushed by one of the frost giants: she gets their attention before shooting several rounds at the giant's head.

The sheriff's been doing much the same as Sonya over the course of the day, though with so much destruction it seems as though for every person he helps there's at least three more casualties. Thankfully, he's grown used to pulling long hours over the years, and though he's not a medic it's by no means his first time helping out injured civilians even if the conditions are admittedly usually slightly less hazardous. When he spots Sonya with her most recent casualty Stilinski makes his way over to offer his assistance with them.

Day 241 - Loki and Thor district (and Who houses)

[ It all starts in both his main districts. Thor, where his home is, and Loki, where his shop is. He's making his way home after a late shift when the rift appears.

He jumps to the side to put further distance between himself and it, and then the screams starts and he's on the move. Anyone in trouble? He's here to help!

At the same time as he makes his way towards his house in Thor district, to check on its state and his family. Both houses seem to be intact, and he goes into 103 first. (He'll check on 104 too though so people in that house could react as well.) ]

Hello?!

Day 422 - all over

[ Following that, the Doctor will be running all over. Pulling people out of the way of debris or spikes or anything, healing anyone that needs it, etc. etc.

Or perhaps pull him out of the way of the sudden row of ice shards heading in his direction as he stands and frowns up at the sky as though it'll offer any answers. What now? What should they do? Ride out the storm? With how many casualties? ]

Day 421 - Yakuzen Clinic in Heimdall

[ Asgard is not supposed to have earthquakes, so the moment the rumblings start John prepares for a long day. And probably night.

During the first day he stays in the clinic and takes care of people who may need help. It'll be open during the night. Wide open. Even if it slowly ends up worn because of falling rocks and debris. Still, stop by if you need it. ]

Day 422 - all over

[ The clinic stays open the next day too, of course, and while John stops by it from time to time he spends this day out in the city to offer his help that way. He's got a medical kit slung over his shoulder. He's barely slept a wink and is running on adrenaline, which, really, makes him all the more reliable to deal with shit like this.

He's pretty obviously a doctor. If he doesn't see someone, they could easily see him. ]

[Bruce bellows, from one of the other rooms in the clinic. Thank God this is happening while John is in. He has a local on his table, and he'd just peeled back a scrap of the man's clothes to try to get at what had given all appearances of being a gently seeping cut, when he'd been struck with a sudden arterial spurt. He's gloved up, thank God, and has pressure on the cut now with both hands, but his shirt front, face, and glasses both are all blood spattered.]
