EVENT LOG: FOURTH WALL!

Who: EVERYONE literally anyone and everyone ever
What: the mingle log for the Ain't Nobody Got Time F'That event!
When: Days 464-466 ( June 15-20 )
Where: anywhere in the city!
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

June 15-16 / Day 464:
Not long after sunrise on Day 464, the air in the city will become briefly charged with magic. It will feel something like static electricity, hanging noticeably before dissipating suddenly a half-minute later. This will mark the beginning of the Visitor's Event! Starting then, characters old and new will begin to tumble into the city. They may appear anywhere there is room for them: in the middle of the street, on top of the Ferris Wheel in Hel's creepy amusement park, in the Comfort House, or ten feet in the air above the lake! Visitors may appear at any point during the duration of the event.

The city's natives will begin to usher them to the courtyard of the palace at the center of the city, where Freyr and the Welcoming Committee will have set up stations. This is where they will be given a bracelet to allow them to communicate with the network and reside safely in the city, provided with food and drink, and given camping supplies - basic tents and sleeping bags - if they choose to stay in the courtyard.

June 17-18 / Day 465:
A minute after midnight, all characters in the city - including the freshly arrived Visitors - may notice something a little odd: a soft, warm glow through their shirts, right at the center of their chests. The light will fade, but it isn't quite finished yet. Starting then, threads of light with that same gold glow will lead from their wrists, beginning as intangible bracelets of light and leading them with anyone they have a "connection" with; what exactly that "connection" is is up to you! It could be romantic interest, or simply belonging to the same world, or sharing a favourite colour. Anything is viable, and they can have "connections" with as many or as few people as you'd like. The closer they get to the person they are bound to, the more brilliant the light. Physical touch will stop the light, and will also bring a sense of something like completion, contentment. When characters close their eyes, the glow of the strings is a soft, gentle one, akin to a nightlight.

The lights are not permanent, and seem to flicker to life and back off again arbitrarily. Your character may have one connection at noon that splinters to fifteen later that afternoon, and then none at all that night. Not all connections will always be "on," and you are welcome to play with this at your discretion! Please note: They will only ever be formed as a result of feelings your character already has - they will not create new ones.

That night, in the Castle Courtyard, Freyr will build an enormous, contained bonfire beneath the Great Oak Tree Merlin planted during an earlier celebration. Things may be rationed, but modest snacks and drinks will still be provided. He will encourage storytelling, games and riddles, and a general welcoming, since who knows how long these new Visitors will be here for, right? Mellow gold lights in the same shade as the ties between the Travelers and Visitors, among other things, will decorate the area to give it a sense of warmth and peace.

June 19-20 / Day 466
Day 466 brings a gentle rain onto the city. Awnings and canopies will be set up in the castle courtyard for shelter, and the Welcoming Committee will continue to operate the bracelet and supply stations for any latecoming Visitors. That evening, a god will make a post to the network, giving notice that the Visitors will soon be sent home, so that people should say their goodbyes. After the given time, they will flicker and then disappear. The strings of light between people will begin to fade at this time as well, a gentle tapering off for a few hours until they are gone for good.

Jenny | Doctor Who | Day 464

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-16 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Jenny 'arrives,' for lack of a better word, in the middle of a street. Briefly disoriented, it's her ingrained soldier's reflexes that enable her to dodge out of the way of an oncoming carriage before she's run over. "Whoops!" she exclaims, scrambling over to the sidewalk and pausing there, taking a good, long look around her.

She'd been in her ship a moment ago, she's sure. Yet here she is, already on a new planet, the ship nowhere to be seen. It doesn't worry her; she can always find a new one, she's sure. And anyway, isn't this where she'd been headed? Well, not here, exactly, but somewhere new. And this...

"This is definitely new," she utters, a smile splitting her face.

So many faces appearing today, both those that have been here before and those who are truly new, and this face is one of the former, to be sure. It brings a light grin to Jack's face. He hadn't gotten to spend a lot of time with the Doctor's daughter, but he'd enjoyed what little time he had, between her bright smile, the easy way of flirting she had, and then- he still remembers their 'date,' so shortly after Tosh and Owen had disappeared, a hard time, but an evening that had helped sooth something of the loss. When she'd left as well, it had been a sad affair, but now?

"New, huh?" It answers one question; if the city is new to her, then she doesn't remember her time before. It's also a little sad, but nonetheless, Jack graces her with a charming smile, a friendly wink, as he approaches. "You might be surprised at that, beautiful." And then he reaches out a hand, an offer to take hers, and if she'll allow, to place a kiss to the back of her hand. "Captain Jack Harkness. And you're Jenny, unless I'm mistaken."
timedaughter: (into the glowing sun)

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-16 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, hello." Jenny could get used to this kind of greeting, if all planets have handsome ambassadors to welcome newcomers. Smiling flirtatiously, Jenny allows him to take her hand and place a kiss on it, a very charming sort of gesture, in her opinion. That he greets her by name is surprising, but not particularly alarming. He could be a telepath for all she knows, but she does look at him curiously for it.

"How d'you know my name then, Captain Jack Harkness?"
faceofbeau: ({♡} Oh yes)

[personal profile] faceofbeau 2014-06-17 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe I read your mind," he teases lightly, and lowers her hand gently. Not that he's going to leave it at that, but he couldn't resist the line, it was too easy. With a chuckle, he stepped back just a little, to allow her room- no reason to crowd her, after all. "Or- maybe you've been here before, and simply don't remember it. Since this isn't the first time I've seen your lovely face, I'm going to have to go with the latter, and welcome you back to Asgard."
timedaughter: (planet earth is blue)

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-19 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenny doesn't see any reason to disbelieve what Jack says, but it's still a little alarming.

"Why wouldn't I remember, though?" It seems like the most reasonable question to ask. She looks around, as if for some clue why she'd want to forget. "It seems like a nice enough place, this Asgard, unless there's something I'm missing?"

A memory lapse would explain how she's here when she thought she'd been in her ship just a few minutes ago, though.
allpurposescarf: (ah there we are)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-06-16 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"It usually is," Four agrees with a nod. He's not really certain whether Jenny is talking about the fact that people have been all but appeared in droves or the city itself, but he figures her reaction to him should be enough to tell him whether or not this is same one as before.

And if not, at least she's still a familiar face. One that he almost certainly doesn't mind speaking to again regardless of if she remembers him not.
timedaughter: (when i clone a human being)

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-16 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jenny turns at the friendly voice, cheerful, but with no recognition in her eyes.

"Do people pop in often, then? Is this a sort of tourist thing?" Resort, she thinks belatedly, the knowledge programmed into her by the progenation machine being both varied and vast, if not necessarily complete. While military knowledge had been foremost, there'd been an explicit expectation of eventual victory, after which they'd been meant to have knowledge enough of the society that had borne them to rebuild it. Tourist attractions and all.
allpurposescarf: (it's a dangerous world out there)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-06-17 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's the lack of recognition that confirms it. But all that really means is that things will get interesting again whenever they manage to get around to introductions, and that's more than worth it.

"They do pop in, yes. But not usually quite like this and I'm afraid it's not really much of a tourist thing. More of a ... recruitment, maybe."

War still looms large over all of them, after all. Maybe not all of the newest arrivals, given he isn't sure what to expect, but usually it's something a little more like a recruitment. A call to war, even if not everyone has really wanted to answer that particular call.
timedaughter: (scientific method girl)

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-19 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Recruitment? Recruitment for what?" Sounds vaguely ominous, but Jenny won't make any judgements until she's told the whole story. For all she knows, they need people for a charity drive or something. She realizes abruptly that she's gone off interrogating this nice man, but she hasn't even introduced herself.

"Sorry, I'm Jenny." She holds out her hand to shake, which she's pretty sure is a customary greeting in most places in the empire.
allpurposescarf: (there. that's better)

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-06-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"For the war that's going on."

Which might not be a terribly comfortable sort of thought, but by the expression on Four's face he's at least aware of the fact that it isn't going to be terribly comfortable news. Especially when there hasn't been much of an element of choice involved either.

Still, handshakes he can do and he takes the offered hand with only a flicker of pause. "I'm the Doctor."
timedaughter: (the immovable object)

I couldn't resist

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-22 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Of course it's a war. If Jenny looks disappointed at that pronouncement, that's because she is. She's about to ask if there's an official post where she can go to opt out, or if she ought to just defect outright, when the Doctor introduces himself. Briefly thrown, she recovers her smile quickly, if a little less confidently.

"Doctor who?" Because this must just be a physician, obviously.
allpurposescarf: (yes! excellent!)

heh XD

[personal profile] allpurposescarf 2014-06-24 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Just the Doctor, if you don't mind."

One of a terrible many, but no less the Doctor for all that he might not be the one that Jenny has been expecting. But he's glad for a topic of conversation that isn't the war that's still looming over all of them. Especially since he really isn't certain there's a way to not be a part of the war, now.

Blimey, but wherever this place is, it seems rather keen on bringing up faces that he associates with loss just as much as happiness. But this particular face is someone he's very, very glad to see, and he all but lights up upon catching sight of her.

It's all he can do to keep from running as he closes the distance between them. "Hello, Jenny."
timedaughter: (the theorems speak to me)

[personal profile] timedaughter 2014-06-19 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dad!" Jenny brightens upon catching sight of him, and shows no hesitation in jumping up and wrapping her arms around him.

"You're here! I can't believe it!" Being an optimistic sort of person, she had assumed she'd find him again... one day. But the universe is vast, so it has to be more than luck that she's found him first thing. Not that she's complaining.
