EVENT LOG: FOURTH WALL!

June 15-16 / Day 464:: Not long after sunrise on Day 464, the air in the city will become briefly charged with magic. It will feel something like static electricity, hanging noticeably before dissipating suddenly a half-minute later. This will mark the beginning of the Visitor's Event! Starting then, characters old and new will begin to tumble into the city. They may appear anywhere there is room for them: in the middle of the street, on top of the Ferris Wheel in Hel's creepy amusement park, in the Comfort House, or ten feet in the air above the lake! Visitors may appear at any point during the duration of the event.

The city's natives will begin to usher them to the courtyard of the palace at the center of the city, where Freyr and the Welcoming Committee will have set up stations. This is where they will be given a bracelet to allow them to communicate with the network and reside safely in the city, provided with food and drink, and given camping supplies - basic tents and sleeping bags - if they choose to stay in the courtyard.
June 17-18 / Day 465:: A minute after midnight, all characters in the city - including the freshly arrived Visitors - may notice something a little odd: a soft, warm glow through their shirts, right at the center of their chests. The light will fade, but it isn't quite finished yet. Starting then, threads of light with that same gold glow will lead from their wrists, beginning as intangible bracelets of light and leading them with anyone they have a "connection" with; what exactly that "connection" is is up to you! It could be romantic interest, or simply belonging to the same world, or sharing a favourite colour. Anything is viable, and they can have "connections" with as many or as few people as you'd like. The closer they get to the person they are bound to, the more brilliant the light. Physical touch will stop the light, and will also bring a sense of something like completion, contentment. When characters close their eyes, the glow of the strings is a soft, gentle one, akin to a nightlight.

The lights are not permanent, and seem to flicker to life and back off again arbitrarily. Your character may have one connection at noon that splinters to fifteen later that afternoon, and then none at all that night. Not all connections will always be "on," and you are welcome to play with this at your discretion! Please note: They will only ever be formed as a result of feelings your character already has - they will not create new ones.

That night, in the Castle Courtyard, Freyr will build an enormous, contained bonfire beneath the Great Oak Tree Merlin planted during an earlier celebration. Things may be rationed, but modest snacks and drinks will still be provided. He will encourage storytelling, games and riddles, and a general welcoming, since who knows how long these new Visitors will be here for, right? Mellow gold lights in the same shade as the ties between the Travelers and Visitors, among other things, will decorate the area to give it a sense of warmth and peace.
June 19-20 / Day 466: Day 466 brings a gentle rain onto the city. Awnings and canopies will be set up in the castle courtyard for shelter, and the Welcoming Committee will continue to operate the bracelet and supply stations for any latecoming Visitors. That evening, a god will make a post to the network, giving notice that the Visitors will soon be sent home, so that people should say their goodbyes. After the given time, they will flicker and then disappear. The strings of light between people will begin to fade at this time as well, a gentle tapering off for a few hours until they are gone for good.

[After having her memories stolen and being cursed by paranoia and fear for a month, the glowing light coming her bracelet and random strangers showing up from seemingly nowhere was a welcome change of pace.

But still she wondered, what was with these lights? Did they mean something? But finding out meant actually having to go out and ask someone, the idea of which she was not terribly fond of.

But there was always what she had done when she was young when she talked to other people, to act as strong and stubborn as possible and force others to do as she said. That could work, she thought.]

Hey! [She called from a seated position with a frantic wave.] Can you tell me what these lights are all about?

[Familiar smoky scents wafted as Samantha turned and looked over her shoulder, offering Asuka a small smile at her friend. A flickering glow flowed from her towards the redhead and she started to walk along it, hand reaching out to brush over the strand of light between them.]

Well... I'm just guessing, but I think it's probably something about you and I being tied together a little. Probably harmless.

...well, as harmless as being tied to a half succubus ever is.

We have been together a lot since I first got here... not that I mind it or anything.

[Asuka offered a small laugh alongside her understatement as Samantha played with the light connecting the two of them]

I'm just happy nothing horrible has happened yet.

[She pantomimed as if she were pulling on the thread while she walked in, winking at her and sighing. There was a shake of her head and she looked briefly a little sad.]

Oh... something horrible is happening, but it's not like the other times. It's just very sad. We have guests, and almost none of them will be here when this is done.

Sometimes, it's harder to see people you cared about come back for only a couple days and know they won't be here afterwards.

Oh...I didn't think of it that way.

[Asuka looked down, all her life she had simply grown numb to people dying or leaving her forever. It just didn't effect her. It had never occured her that something like this may be sad.]

The only person I know that showed up was Ayanami, that girl I did a favor for that ended up taking my eye.

Dare I ask how that whole conversation went? I'm almost imagining a talk with the guy who cut my wings off, and I can't see that ending well for either of us... or with his entrails intact.

The idiot wouldn't even say she was sorry for the fact that I nearly died so she could have a stupid dinner party!

But it is not like my yelling at her would accomplish anything. Because I'm not even sure she is capable of feeling emotions like the rest of us, she's not even human after all.

Not at all? [She frowned.] Is this like what Kaworu is, an angel? I mean he can feel things after all, even if it's odd. She sounds... really strange.

She's a part of a series of identical clones that NERV created called the Ayanami series, that is probably why she is so messed up.

[She sighed.]

The brat was pretty into her when we were all kids, though I have no idea why. Ayanami was pretty much just an emotionless doll that did whatever the Commander told her to do.

Asuka, you've reminded me of yet another reason why romance isn't easy for you. Everyone that survived in your world is seriously fucked in the head. [She sighed.] You want to do something to drown the weirdness?

Yeah...

[Asuka was quiet. She wasn't going to fight that one. As she very well knew that surviving in a world her's meant being a little messed up in the head.]

That sounds good, got anything in mind?

There's a bonfire, if you wanted to go there... or we could go back to my place and get completely tanked. [She reached up and scratched her chin.] You can kick my butt at video games next time. If you get me drunk enough, I might give you a massage, though I am open to suggestions.

Drinking till we forget our own names seems like a good idea. The last thing I need right now is to dwell any more about how much my childhood sucked.

One condition though, no disappearing on me this time.

[She reached for her hand, and if it caught hold of Asuka's, the glow would fade and leave behind it the feeling of contentment and ... completeness that came with that little sensation. She smirked and nodded.]

Then you're not going home tonight. If I'm going to keep that promise, I can't very well have you leaving either, can I?

[Asuka blushed as she took Samantha's hand. It felt strange for her to feel this content about anything, let alone being with another person. But she would not complain, for being able to feel anything besides despair was a welcome change from the norm.]

Fine. I'll stay over for the night.

[Here, everyone was just trying to spend a few fleeting moments with those from worlds or from Asgard that would soon be gone, and all Samantha wanted to do was grab someone already there and drag them back, alone and away from all of the nonsense. She'd said her peace with several, and the thought of being with someone she actually cared about... and who she thought would be there in the morning, was a little too tempting.

She was moving at a pretty good clip as they walked, glancing back over her shoulder with a smirk.]

You should be careful. I might cave in and try to get you to move in one of these days.

[Asuka trailed behind her half-demon friend at a slightly slower pace, trying her best not fall behind.]

You'd have to try pretty hard to get me to do that. [Asuka smiled back.> But then again, you've gotten me to do a lot of things I've never thought I'd ever do.

mmm, you mean like waking up in a stranger's house without any memory why you were there in the first place? [Her tone said that she meant it almost entirely in jest. She snickered a little and sighed.] I... really am sorry that played out like that, by the way.

Did... you have any problems when you woke up?

It's OK, there is nothing we can do about all the dumb things that happen around here.

[Asuka went quiet for a moment, it had been quite the experience waking up in a strange place by herself with no real context for why she had gone there in the first place.]

It wasn't a pleasant experience. When I woke up I panicked and then ran home as fast as I could. I didn't know what else I could do.

[She sighed again and smiled reassuringly over at her.]

I'm making you breakfast this time, with tabasco. You do not get to leave before we make this a proper wakeup call. I don't let just anyone into my house after all. You're... pretty much the third, maybe fourth since I got here, you know.

[Thankfully she didn't live that far away, so the apartment complex was starting to loom in as the moments of silence came to an end.]

That all sounds great, and you can finally make good on that promise to cook for me.

[She did her best to sound cheerful, but still seemed a little distant.]

I'm honored, but were any of them as cute as I am?

[She chuckled softly, pausing just outside of her door to try and pull Asuka in close, her fingers going for the red-head's waist. She was grateful that Elsa hadn't ever been by. That was a lie she didn't feel like saying. Nope, she'd warned Asuka she might have to share, but she wasn't going to just spread it around much.

But Eridan she knew.]

Fin-rot's not exactly 'cute,' but he has his... let's call them charms. So, yeah, I think you claim that prize. [She leaned in, lips close to the other girl's while she felt the little sensations running through the contact making her feel almost a little more comfortable, wanting more.] Maybe I just have a thing for girls in eyepatches.

[Having Samantha's lips so close to hers cause Asuka to fidget about awkwardly for a moment before finding something, anything really, she could say in response to such a thing.]

That's pretty specific, but I guess it is good for me. Maybe someday I'll even show you what's under there.

[Mustering up an immense level of courage, Asuka kissed Samantha on the cheek for a brief moment. Lingering none to long as a bright crimson appeared on both of her cheeks.]

[She nuzzled against Asuka during that little peck. While the girl was turning crimson, the sound of a door unlocking could be heard and she leaned her own lips up to brush very lightly, just underneath the eyepatch. It didn't linger long before she pulled back, smiled and opened the door, slipping in.]

You'd better be careful. I plan on stealing any of those firsts I can get my grubby claws on, you know.

[Asuka jumped a little at Samantha's touch, but allowed it nonetheless, as she had become accustomed to the demon girl's advances following months of exposure to her wily personality.]

You can try. [She attempted to smirk.] But geez, everyone back home is going to wonder what the heck happened to me when I finally get back.
