[ OPEN ] OH. What's Occuring?
Who: Your local forensics department, hospital staff, curious bystanders, others.
What: Scenario A: A regular day in the office (during a musical curse) | B: Out on the job.
When: A: Day 84 morning | B: Day 84 afternoon
Where: A: The forensics department office, third floor of the hospital attached to the laboratory. | An alleyway around a manhole in Odin district, close to the wall and the border with Thor.
Rating: PG13 for possible grisly details.
[two scenarios! I will post a scene-setting comment for both of them, please reply below the comment of the scenario you're taking part in, even if you're not replying directly to Conan. Thank you!
By the way, I encourage Forensics people to reply to both parts of the post, thread jack and jump around -- this is to get an idea of how our characters interact in their daily working lives! /o/]

[So it had been his second guess. Conan brightened. Another expert was always welcomed and one that had experience already working with a member of his team doubly so.]
Should I bring you up to date on the case so far? Or let Detective Beckett do that -- Ah, sorry! I'm assumming you'd like to join in ...
I'm Edogawa Conan, by the way -- call me Conan.
((Actually Ojiisan (granddad) might be insulting, but Ojisan (Uncle) doesn't usually have that connotation, especially when used by someone of Conan's apparent age. Children are encouraged to address people whose names they don't know as 'Aunt' 'Uncle' so Conan's not being intentionally rude -- rather polite and childish.))

Castle was still staring in disbelief, because really, this was too much. Had Beckett just accepted this and gone with it?
"Uh. You can brief me if you'd like. If not, Beckett's pretty skilled at that."
((Oh, lol, the definition I found of it said it was a bit derogatory. Sorry bout that!))

Conan leads his companion towards the man-hole cover, still talking. "We got a runner from the water department an hour ago. Residents had been complaining of a bad smell for a few days now. It was finally tracked to the sewer here, and the Water department sent a man down to investigate. He found a hand -- some days old and severed by some sharp instrument. It's -- very likely we're going to find more."
((ooc: no worries! It could be if the context was different, but yeah -- Japanese is no end of complicated.))

Writing mystery novels. Well, he couldn't well say that.
"I'm particularly good at synthesizing evidence, coming up with potential theories or motives behind the crime."
That wasn't a lie. Even though his theories were outlandish at times, sometimes he was right. More often than Beckett would care to admit.
"Hand but no body..."
no subject
"Mm. Well, the hand is already in the hospital lab for analysis, but we're getting set up here for the long haul. If the hand had been left somewhere to find it might be some kind of message, but that it was hidden -- and presumably cut up to make the hiding easier -- makes us think that the body's down there somewhere."
no subject
He was sort of profiler-ish, but he didn't have the training of one. But being a novelist made him incredibly detailed and observant. Those tiny details were the keys to a great story.
"So depending on what we find will determine whether just the hand was cut off or if the whole body was dismembered."
Stuff like that made a difference. Castle gazed down into the manhole.
"Where does the sewer empty out to?"
no subject
"A good question! The water department was rather vague on that point." Conan's expression is petulant, but he remembers that he's talking to a new arrival and judiciously ammends his statement. "Have you had the experience of talking to totally grey citizens? They don't mean to be unhelpful, I'm sure, but the information they can give is -- limited."
They're nearing the manhole cover now and Conan kneels beside the open hole. "Cursory examination suggests that the usual volume of water is depleted, probably because of the run of fine weather we've had, which resulted in the hand coming to light. Ah, I didn't mention earlier, but it was grey -- one of the faceless citizens."

Castle squatted next to him, peering down into the darkness.
"The hand was found here but do we know if the body was dumped here?"
no subject
Conan nodded. Castle raised another good point. "Not yet. We won't until the search develops further but this seems a good place to start--"
There's a shout from within the sewer. Evidently a second discovery has been made.

He glanced back and forth between Conan and the manhole.
"We're not going down there right?"
Because his shoes were Armani.
no subject
"You can relax! Detective Beckett's recommended you for helping her with the interviews -- ah, that is if you don't mind helping us out! We're a little short-handed right now ..."
((ooc: just going to pretend the timeline of these threads makes sense!))
no subject
He was ok doing interviews, though he did like to look at evidence too. Still if the choices were get in a sewer or interview some people, Castle would definitely pick talking to people.

"No, I think I'm good. I'm sure she can update me if I've missed anything else."
Castle paused before turning away. He couldn't hold back any longer.
"How old are you?"
no subject
Well.
The question isn't entirely unexpected, especially given who he is talking to -- but it'll never be welcome. Conan winces, holding up five fingers on one hand and two on the other. "Seven!" he says with all the little kid pride he can muster. "My birthday's in May, but I don't think that works here."
no subject
"How do you... how do you know all this stuff? I didn't know people could be prodigies at being cops."
Castle was more impressed than anything.
no subject
no subject
Not really. But his mother had always said that he was a writing prodigy.

Conan scratched his head in an awkward gesture. Though that wasn't really a lie -- He could still learn plenty about what not to do from Mouri. Occhan's hardly done embarrassing himself yet after all.
"... but Castle-san's very kind! We should compare notes some time -- after this case, maybe!"

Castle liked kids and he was honestly used to super mature ones - his daughter was always vey mature for her age.
"I'll uh.. check in with Beckett."
