[Day: You survived. That was... horrifying. And you don't think you've ever been so happy to see the sun rise the next morning. Things are worse for wear, and you need to get more supplies just in case something else comes.

But wait- halfway through the day, and suddenly the sun is gone? Where did it go, and how is it night so early?

Night: Careful. The terrors of last night are back, and now are even in more of a frenzy than before. More crazed, more dangerous, and wanting to destroy everything they come across. Hope you can keep your eyes open.]

[ This probably would've been fine if he hadn't said instruct me. But as many of his words tend to do - and often at the cruelty times - these play at some sort of switch in her head.

The kind of switch that make it very hard to speak suddenly.

Seriously what the HELL is that phrasing????? ]

[ She remembers Draco and Red being creeped out and fascinated in that order by its usefulness as cover. ]

[He shakes his head. Momentary stumble!]

All right.

[ Frankly doesn't even remember what she's supposed to be doing. Teaching him... something? It's only when Rapunzel climbs up on her knees and takes stock of the sweater that she remembers her animal game (though for some reason calling it that feels a bit unnerving now) and starts dismantling her nest so as to rebuild it to accomodate - well, him. ]

I'm going to need you to get off too.

[deputychief]

Of course.

[He does so, staring keenly at whatever she's doing now.]

Take your time.

[ Okay that's too much; she glares. There's little ire to it but still.

When she's done, she unceremoniously leaps back into place, not so much the cat as the tweaky, recently-eighteen girl making unintentional come hither gestures. ]

Come back. Now we have to make sure it's warm enough.

[deputychief]

[well, the handsome bishie surprisingly-muscular boy will come over, bending over to pick up a fallen pillow, and then, indeed, come hither, over to the bed/nest.]

How are we going to do that?

[ If she were any less subtle about watching him it would be with bracelet out and filming. ]

[deputychief]

I could use fire magic.

[he says blandly.

Nah, okay, fine, he'll sit down next to her on the bed/nest.]

[ Oh ha ha. Her answering stare is a cross of bemusement, irritation, mild hurt, and— ]

Ah - ahaha. I... think you've done enough for one day.

[ Although she he doesn't move and doesn't specify the remark until a moment later when her task comes back to mind; then she sets about closing Itsuki into the fort, using her hair to insulate it and, hesitating some, them, though she tries not to avoid touching him too much. When she speaks again her voice is a touch softer. ] You saved our lives with that fire.

[deputychief]

[He recognizes her hesitation--and to his surprise, he recognizes most of the components of that stare, too. He didn't mean to hurt her -- ah, but it's hard to tell; and he probably couldn't have said anything less "light" than that without compunctions of his own, so... What can't be cured must be endured.]

You saved our lives with your ingenuity as well, Rapunzel. You've done enough too.

[Bemusedly watching her fort-weaving. It's pretty impressive, but it reminds him more of a nest than of a cat.]

[ she stops ]

You know what?

[ --and scoots around until she's angled a bit more towards him, resting elbows on a pillow and in turn resting her chin in her hands. As if this is a very important moment, something miraculous she's just discovered, Rapunzel watches him intensely a moment, smiling, before dissolving into abrupt laughter. ]

I can't believe it never hit me! How bad you are at taking compliments! Every time i say something nice to you? You completely deflect with something nice about me!

[deputychief]

[of course, she's right.

That doesn't really ease his feeling of being laughed at any more, but he relaxes backwards, closing his eyes and clasping his hands behind his head.]

Is that really such a bad way of taking compliments?

[corona]

Mmn. [ head shake ] But it doesn't matter because you aren't taking anything. You're...

Actually I don't know what you're doing! [ But she has that morbidly interested, just-a-little-too-nosy look that CSI freaks get when metro police shows up across the street - or when there's a possibility that their favorite One Direction member is breaking up with his girlfriend. Only less schadenfreude more... sincerity. (Don't judge my analogies). ]

Why do you do that?

[deputychief]

[He hesitates. He hasn't himself considered this that much, to be honest; it's one of those instincts which he reaches for every time, and yet he doesn't have an immediate explanation. So he floats a kind of trial reply.]

Well, for one thing, it's what many people hope for in reply to a compliment. Returning the compliment. It's even a phrase in common parlance.
