Not really. I found your style interesting.

[Maya made not move to leave the stands.]

I've not seen it before.

That's because it is the style of my people. Though I would personally not say that it is as extensive to deserve the title of being a "style."

[It's out of respect to those fighting methods who are discplined and distinct. The Amazons were trained in all manner of weaponry and hand to hand combat, which required discpline, certainly, but there was no particular technique enforced. One of her sisters had commented before that as long as your enemy was defeated, then style didn't matter. She didn't hold quite that extreme of a view, but she understood her point.]

I am a daughter of the Amazons. We are all trained in this way.

[Being from Japan and having gone to a school that emphasized martial arts and not conventional book learning, Maya has no idea what an Amazon is supposed to be. Isn't that some big rain forest in one of the western continents?]

What... are the ways... of the Amazons?

We are the warrior women of Theymscira. I am something of a special case amongst my people, but we are warriors trained from an early age for battle and for the virtues of sisterhood. We are not kin, but we are sisters, as all women are sisters by what we are taught.

[She chuckles] Though that is a brief explanation. Our ways date back many millenia.

I've never heard of it before. What of the men of your society?
lassos: (gazin' and shit)

We have none. The Amazons are the warrior women, and long ago, we separated ourselves from the men, what we call the Patriarch's World. But my sisters are immortal. When they left the world of man to Theymscira, they no longer knew death. The women the left that world are the ones who live today.

[She furrows her brow.] Why? Men are important.
lassos: (but w/e I need keywords)

[personal profile] lassos 2012-09-09 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And I will not deny their importance, just as all people are important. I disagreed with our separation and isolation, but it did not come without reason. The hardships my people suffered at the hands of men is etched into their very souls. What my sisters have suffered cannot be forgotten, so long ago, they chose to live away from the world of man. And as immortal beings, there was no need for men to bear children. It is a way of our people, and it sounds strange to those who have lived in the Patriarch's world, I do understand.

[A small shrug] And I cannot explain nor argue for either, since I see the good and bad of both.

If your people suffered at the hands of men, then they weren't strong enough to prevent it. That's the way it's always been. If a woman cannot stand up for herself and become strong enough to repel men and their natures, they deserve what they get.

[It's sad that Maya believes this, but as another had already pointed out to her, her view on things was a little... odd to say the least and that her society allowed to say such things are okay.]

[She actually feels a strong flare of anger at the girl's words, but manages to keep it mostly away]

It is not so simple, my sister. And your opinion is... I disagree with it, to say it simply. Not all should have to be strong and not all need to be. That is not to say that they deserve any misfortune that comes to them. Even the strongest will face misfortune.

Don't call me 'sister'; we're not related. And strength comes in many forms.
