END OF ARC 1: DAY 169-170 DOWNTIME

[The first battle is over, but the second will begin any time. For two days, the enemy forces will remain on the other side of the battlefield, working on strategy and tending to their wounded. Both sides have taken heavy losses, and the Arena is full of the hurt and dying.

The battlefield itself has turned to a bloody, muddy mess. The elves will be asking the Army Engineers group and anyone else willing to help them lay timber and gravel out to make the ground easier to walk on for the next battle.

What will you do in your breathing space? Keep working, mourn your losses, or retreat from the horrors of war?]

You too, huh? I know exactly what you mean. It's hard enough just trying to grasp how many people there are in this world, and even harder trying to think of all the things and places there are. There's so much that we haven't seen and probably haven't even heard of. It's-- frightening, but exciting, too. -- At least, it is to me. What about you, Hanako?

[ -- and Shinji can't help but almost fall (again), clinging to the door's handle as if it's kindly offering life support, before peering down. ]

[Souji looks down at her. Would this really work? He was feeling uneasy... but he nods.]

I'm in your hands. [literally. He gets into position and braces himself, looking up at his goal. Cat...!!!]

Day 169 - 170 | Arena | Open

[Day 169 - Arena, afternoon

Ven's crumpled to a sitting position on the floor, jacket off and sporting cuts and bruises. He's been walking around the entire morning taking people's injuries when he can, especially those who can't stand the pain anymore. His mouth is set in a firm line of determination as he holds the pain in, hanging onto his Wayfinder for comfort.

Day 170 - Outside the Arena

Rest be damned. Ven's testing out the new armor he finally got made. It took a while but it was worth it, and he needed it the most now, he thought. Although it didn't had any magical properties like his original one had, and that it was slightly heavier, he figured protection was better than nothing. He's wearing it, doing some drills and testing out how fast he can move in it.]

[wingblades]

[There's clanking as he seats himself next to her, helmet in his hand as he settles down.]

[Ven's not the only one who has been busy, although in her case she's fortunate enough to have a power that only tires her, rather than causing her pain. She's spent a long time very distracted by her duties, but-- well, that's a particular shade of blond hair that she's not likely to miss. And the instant that she sees he's on the floor like that? The alarm bells in her mind are going full blast. Don't mind her, she's just going to quickly walk up behind him, visibly concerned.]

Ven--?

[lethechained]

[It's not hard to hear him coming in that. Her reaction is still a little late thanks to her exhaustion, but she turns when he gets close and smiles when she realizes who it is.]

Ven...! Hey. [Definitely not missing the addition of the armor.] This is new...! [Er, for Asgard, that is.]

[After getting his turn healed, he scouts the arena for people he knows and spots her alone. Needing some rest, he sits himself next to her on the ground, intending to watch over her for a while.

... hm, his jacket isn't really that clean, at least it isn't bloody? Either way, he's draping it over her to provide some comfort at least.]

[wingblades]

[He looks up at that, forcing a smile on wearily.]

Hey, Namine.

[wingblades]

[He shifts the helmet on his lap, leaning on it a little.]

Yeah, I know. I was having it worked on for a while now, they just finished it. And good timing too, if this war is going to be on for a while.

[lethechained]

[-- Okay, yeah, he definitely needs some attention. She steps around him and moves to lower herself to as comfortable a position as she can manage, legs under her. Already she is studying him, picking out all the visible injuries.]

What happened? [She can guess, of course, but perhaps it's better to let him explain; she thought she saw him around, but--]

[wingblades]

I just... took some of the injuries from people. Especially those who were really in pain. It's... the least I could do.

[His grip on his Wayfinder tightens as pain shoots through him again.]

[lethechained]

... Very good timing.

[Except the thought of the war going on isn't a happy one, even if it seems likely.]

... Do you think it will? I mean-- that the war will last much longer. [Not that she's really in any position to expect that it won't, exactly, she'd just appreciate his thoughts.]

[wingblades]

[He's quiet as he looks out at the view.]

... I don't know, but I hope not.

... I've only known war in books and from what Master told us... but experiencing it? It's... horrifying. It's nothing like fighting Unversed back home. There are so many people involved, and everyone is just... fighting...

[lethechained]

[As she suspected, then. She startles herself by not asking before she reaches toward him suddenly, intent on healing what she can find. She covers for herself with a fairly well-maintained,]

Why am I not surprised?

[And the tiniest of smiles.]

[wingblades]

[... she smiled.

That was enough for him and he smiles too, even chuckling.]

Kinda stupid, huh? But I can't help it, I guess.

Am I in trouble?

[lethechained]

[Her lips press together, eyes leaving him and returning to the city after a moment.]

I... think I understand. I've never seen so many people in so much pain. I'm sure it's nothing compared to being out there, but--....

[Head shake.] The sooner this ends, the better. [Assuming it's a favorable ending for them, of course.]

[wingblades]

I really hope so.

... it makes me miss the days where all we have to worry about is being aged up or down and rampant animals everywhere.

[lethechained]

[Inside, she is yet concerned, and will be until she's patched him up well enough to find no sign of pain. But still, her smile builds off of his as it built off of herself. (A good vicious cycle?)]

Of course not. You're just too nice.

... Well, maybe only a little. [Judging by the way her smile quirks ever so slightly? That part was a joke.] I can't exactly blame you for trying to help.

[wingblades]

[This is a nice cycle of smiling.]

I'll rest after this, I promise?

[lethechained]

... Mm. I'd like to think-- that maybe those days aren't gone forever. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. [-- Ah, can't forget,] And hope.

[wingblades]

So all we can do is stay safe.

[lethechained]

[Yes, yes it is. c:]

Good. If you don't, you'll have to answer to me. [No breaking promises, now. She has access to sedatives. C8 She's still definitely working on his injuries, but she's making fairly good time. She is a top level healer now, after all.]

[... Nod.] Just don't forget, you said 'we'. [That means he's not allowed to get hurt.]
