END OF ARC 1: DAY 169-170 DOWNTIME

[The first battle is over, but the second will begin any time. For two days, the enemy forces will remain on the other side of the battlefield, working on strategy and tending to their wounded. Both sides have taken heavy losses, and the Arena is full of the hurt and dying.

The battlefield itself has turned to a bloody, muddy mess. The elves will be asking the Army Engineers group and anyone else willing to help them lay timber and gravel out to make the ground easier to walk on for the next battle.

What will you do in your breathing space? Keep working, mourn your losses, or retreat from the horrors of war?]

We can only hope there would be no need to exercise those limits again. [Someone here doesn't quite buy that this is the end of it, but it would certainly be relieving if it was.]

[He shakes his head thinking back of that very conversation he had with Arthur at his knighting.

I did not knight you for the life of one man, or for the deeds you've done in Camelot, and certainly not for the deeds you will do in Camelot. I did not knight you for your deeds here either - not the lives saved and the people you've protected - but because regardless of where you are, you strive to keep safe those around you. You know the value of human life, Lancelot, and you know that it something sacred to be cherished at all costs.

The words still ring clearly in his ears.]

He knighted me for the ideals I hold true to, for...for the faith he has in me.

[Faith he so far failed but at least not in this war, not yet.]

[Too long indeed, he'll be sending her a questioning look that should ask if she plans to remedy that anytime soon.]

[Blood spatters on her clothes aside, she really is just fine Eyes!! ...Also she may have just given in to her weariness and toppled over sideways, albeit she's still awake.]

Even as she slowly munches away on those crackers, she's painfully aware of time ticking by. What if somebody needs help right now and they aren't there to give it?

[ Carefully, he releases her. ]

"Then you're not going to stand up until the pain passes, alright?" With the pills, it should be alright, but Hanako was all the more concerned after she heard what she heard from him.

"She's in a safe shelter along with children and people who can't fight." Upon hearing there was actually a shelter, Hanako sent her dog there- and of course they didn't refuse taking her in. "They guaranteed me she'll be fed and taken care of while we're here."

Uhm... but wouldn't he risk to lose his cape everytime he takes it off?

[ D-dumb question, but she's trying to keep the casual conversation up. ]

But this might mean it's the end of it too. If... we win, we'll be sent back to our own worlds.

[He can't help but blink and wonder about that.] ...Did you destroy it yourself?

[ she nods, inclines her head as this is her duty. She is a daughter of Camelot, she is his daughter for the love of everything. ]

You should rest before the next battle.

[ Really.

Is he a coward or a King? The King of the greatest of the Five Kingdoms, on top of that. Is it really that difficult to say things that need saying to someone he loves with all his heart? You'd think it wouldn't be.

But it is, and yet, the possibility of this being now or never... He's failed up until this point, he's made her feel... unaccepted, alienated. Arthur's right; it's his fault, and there's nothing he can do to stop it at home.

But he can do something here. He can't let that slip through his fingers like he's let everything else do. ]

[ He turns more properly towards her, and reaches for her hands. ]

[He shifts slightly.]

All right.

[He's already explained this once or twice to others, but he's still not quite used to it yet.]

The... my world is kept by three Balances. The Balance between life and death, the Balance between creation and destruction, and the Balance of time, between the past, present, and future. When one of the Balances is upset, the world suffers from it.

Each part of the Balance is governed by a Keeper, gifted with all the aspects of both sides of their Balance, and their lands are more closely connected with their Balance than the others. In their lands, there are some who are gifted on one side of the Balance or the other. In the Stara lands, there are those gifted with life, or gifted with death, but the only one who is gifted with both is the Keeper.

[He pauses, hesitating. It's hard to talk about it, a little, because there is the way things should be and the way things are.]

In times passed, the three Keepers formed a council that worked to Balance the world, but... it has been a long time since that council met.

[He sighs and runs his hand through his hair.]

Is this making sense?

[He's worried he's not explaining it well.]

[ She tries not to think about what will be, tries to banish it from her mind, what Merlin and Arthur and himself too will see once they return home. What will happen to her, it's usually enough to suffocate her. She turns to look at him, her eyes move to his hands, surprise written on her face. ]

My hands - they're covered with blood.

[ from the injured but it knocks the breathe out of her. Soon it shall be my own doing, soon I'll have his blood on my hands from different reasons. ]

[ He squeezes her hands, runs his thumbs over her knuckles, trying for soothing. ]

Morgana. Look at me.

[ Honestly, he doesn't know how he'll dare look her in the eyes. But he's going to try. Small steps, all leading up to one thing that he knows he has to say. ]

"You don't have to tell me twice." Hisao replied with a small, dry smile. He couldn't get up and run around right now if he wanted to.

"I'm glad to know she's alright. I worry. I've missed her."

[ There is no helping it, is there? She relaxes her palm, lifts her eyes in a rare act of obedience. ]

Yes and no. Had to have it cut away when I had a wound healed, so there's no getting it back in one piece anyway.
