asgardmeridiem | END OF ARC 1: DAY 169-170 DOWNTIME

[The first battle is over, but the second will begin any time. For two days, the enemy forces will remain on the other side of the battlefield, working on strategy and tending to their wounded. Both sides have taken heavy losses, and the Arena is full of the hurt and dying.

The battlefield itself has turned to a bloody, muddy mess. The elves will be asking the Army Engineers group and anyone else willing to help them lay timber and gravel out to make the ground easier to walk on for the next battle.

What will you do in your breathing space? Keep working, mourn your losses, or retreat from the horrors of war?]

I mean - I can see the younger Roxas being a good fighter! He's even got those sword things. But Roxas? He's... too gentle.

[sighs, dragging a hand through his hair. Trying to explain Roxas' past and false memories would be too complicated, and he's not even sure Roxas would like him telling Euri all of that anyway.]

Trust me. Their fighting abilities can be on the same level. Roxas just has to remember it - and he will learn what he used to know, if he keeps going.

[She wouldn't understand it if he tried, sadly. His comment makes her frown.]

Is that a good thing?

There's no good or bad to it; it's part of who he is.

It doesn't seem like it to me....

It doesn't matter. That's how it is.

Well... will it make him happy?

[he's quiet for a few moments, considering her. It's not really a question he can answer. It's part of Roxas, that ability. Having the keyblade, fighting, vanquishing heartless or whatever else. It's not something he essentially needs, but it's still a piece that's been buried for...a long time, it seems. But he also can't forget the conversation he had with him earlier.]

He wants to be able to protect the people he cares about. That's important to him.

[It isn't much of an answer, but at least it isn't completely vague. Still, Euri focuses on scratching Dog's head for a minute or so before she replies.]

... As long as you're always going to keep an eye on him.

I'm not going to let anything happen to him.

[That's a promise to himself he's going to do whatever necessary to keep. He's lost him once before - never again.]

Good.

[Because even if this is who Roxas really is, she can't help but think of him as a kid.]

[she may have to lose that image of him someday. Roxas is still young, still rather innocent in a way, but there's so much more to him than just that.]

I won't lose him again, so don't worry.

[She nods firmly, then after a moment decides to add:

If you do I'll kick your ass!

[that startles a laugh from him, and he smirks back at her.]

If I do, my ass is all yours to kick.

[Which makes her blink and blush faintly, then quickly look away. Her tone is total tsundere.]

... Fine then!

[fffffffffft. Just. Laughing.]

Just think it's great that Roxas has a lot of people who care about him.

Yeah, well... he's a nice kid. It's hard not to like someone like him.

Yeah. It is.

[Said with much, much fondness.]

[That tone causes Euri to fall silent for a few moments. Those two must be really good friends, but Roxas barely explained any of it at their lunch....

She isn't sure if Vanitas was the reason for that, so it can't hurt to bring up now, right?]

... What kind of work did you and Roxas do back in your world?

[It's not exactly a subject he likes talking about - partially because it's just too hard to explain even to people from their world, and also because, well - they weren't exactly the good guys.]

Oh you know. Investigating, re-possessing, tracking stuff down that's been lost. Not very interesting work, to be honest.

- Bounty hunting??

[It sounds like bounty hunting! Maybe.

Possibly.]

[except they didn't exactly get paid for their bounty.]
