END OF ARC 1: DAY 169-170 DOWNTIME

[The first battle is over, but the second will begin any time. For two days, the enemy forces will remain on the other side of the battlefield, working on strategy and tending to their wounded. Both sides have taken heavy losses, and the Arena is full of the hurt and dying.

The battlefield itself has turned to a bloody, muddy mess. The elves will be asking the Army Engineers group and anyone else willing to help them lay timber and gravel out to make the ground easier to walk on for the next battle.

What will you do in your breathing space? Keep working, mourn your losses, or retreat from the horrors of war?]

[ooc note: This log takes place IC on Days 169-170/Nov 4-7. Please be sure you've read the plot post and the battle log's starting info thoroughly. Make absolutely sure that you include the day/rough time in the subject line of top-level comments, as well as if your thread is open or closed.

In addition to the battle log, there is a full-event log for those hiding out in Folkvang here. If you have any questions, please direct them to the mod post so everyone else can see them!]

It's okay to feel guilty, Samantha-san ... but not so guilty you forget to be practical, okay? We need you on our side, not hers.

[Conan squeezed her hand to take any sting out of his words. They really didn't need to dwell on the situation -- either of them. It might be quiet at the moment, but that didn't meant they weren't both fully away of what lay before the city.]

The thermos -- what was in that?
samantha_grey: (Nonplussed)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-10 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
She wouldn't side with them. Trust me. But, it's like the old saying goes, 'With friends like these, who needs enemies?' You don't want her help.

[She sighed and shook her head, squeezing back as she walked. When he asked the other question, she decided there was no harm in explaining at this point.]

Tea, made from a plant that's part of amulets in Asgard to protect against curses. I've been working on it, hoping it would help control ... her. If it works, she might come out as often.

...we'll see. Even if it works, I still want to be locked up for the first few months. Just in case... assuming we're still here of course.

A plant? How did you manage to procure it -- through your store?

[Conan was surprised he hadn't heard about it. Clearly there was a lot more going on in the city than he realised. It would be interesting to learn more about this, after the battle--

Assuming of course, they survived.]

Assuming we're still here. How much of the tea can you make?

Utgard. I got the license while I was working for Doctor Watson. The herbs are pricy, but with the sales I do to the natives, I can get enough to brew more than I need. The magical herbs do pretty well as sales go.

Mind you... most of the things I sell are those amulets to the natives. They like curses as little as we do, even if I haven't heard of them suffering much.

We're kind of cut off from the citizens for all that we live in the same place. Most of us Travellers, when we want to find out what's happening or put the word out, we use the bracelets, right? They're easy and they're quick -- but they don't allow us to reach the Citizens.
samantha_grey: (Really Not Liking This)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-10 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, they really don't. Actually, they're pretty much useless for talking to them. I might start putting out some word later on that sort of thing if we get through this and aren't sent back to our worlds.

[Admittedly, she might not be doing it in the most ethical avenues. She did traffic in some questionable stuff on the side.]

I've been thinking about developing a rune for that -- providing I can make sense of the things, of course.

[We're turning here, taking something of an indirect route to Hel.]

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-10 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
[She was still paying attention, but the long way made it harder and harder to tell where she was.]

Hmmm, are you thinking of creating a bullhorn or something? We could always try to do that with regular technology.
holmes_fanatic: (In the Teeth of the Evidence.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-16 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but one of those would be useful too!

What I was thinking was a way of getting messages to the members of the Forensics Unit who aren't Travellers and so can't use bracelets. There's no phones, in Asgard, had you noticed? Not even landlines.
samantha_grey: (Annoyed)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-16 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Bulletin board works, but if you're wanting fast you might look into seeing if we can get walkie talkies to work here. [she frowned. She had no idea if something like that would work, actually.]
holmes_fanatic: (When in Rome.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-18 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'll look into It, but somehow I suspect that if phones don't work, anything that can broadcast is likely to be tightly controlled. Then again, there was the radio ...
samantha_grey: (Default)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-18 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Short range might have better luck if the worry's going past the city. I almost get the feeling sometimes they don't want outside info getting in here.

...radio?
holmes_fanatic: (In the Teeth of the Evidence.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-20 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
One of my friends here worked in a radio station. Before she was sent home.
samantha_grey: (Oh?)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-20 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't even know they had one of those here. Huh. That might actually be good to have around if it's still going.
holmes_fanatic: (When in Rome.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-22 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Another thing to look into after. Ah -- we're almost there!
samantha_grey: (Pensive)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-22 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Good to hear it. Let me know what you need me to do. We're still far enough in advance that I think we're safe for the time being anyway.
holmes_fanatic: (Endless Night.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-22 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing but rest and wait. [And try not to attack anyone.] I'm sorry it is going to be dull.
samantha_grey: (Really Not Liking This)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-22 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[She nodded and took the seat once they were there, moving her arms wherever needed so they could be bound.]

It won't be that boring, really, if I'm being honest. I'm too nervous about this whole thing as is.
holmes_fanatic: (Endless Night.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-24 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you have to be nervous.

[Is Conan displaying far more familiarity with both knots and securing people than any seven-year-old should know? Yes. Anyone surprised by this? Pfft.]
samantha_grey: (Ashamed)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-24 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He is. And Samantha actually noticed that a little. She squirmed while he was tying it and frowned.]

Don't worry about it. This... is better than waking up with a body, Conan, honestly.

...you are the strangest little kid I have ever met, you know that?
holmes_fanatic: (Lord Peter Views the Body.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-24 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Making sure that the rope is tied tight enough with his little-kid strength requires concentration. It's a moment before Conan replies.]

People keep saying that. I seriously have to wonder about the kids in all of your worlds.

[The last touch -- setting up Sam's bracelet so it is on and locked to Conan's and the other's monitoring Sam.]
samantha_grey: (Default)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-24 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I had a long childhood I guess. Ok... I'll see you in a day, Conan. Thanks...
holmes_fanatic: (Endless Night.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-24 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for trusting us, Sam-san.

[One last check of the ropes then Conan is stepping back.] Your bracelet is on. If you want to talk, do. One of us will be listening.
samantha_grey: (Embarassed)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2012-11-24 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I probably won't much. Don't trust that it's me until it's been a full day. She... can be sneaky.
holmes_fanatic: (Busman's Honeymoon.)

[personal profile] holmes_fanatic 2012-11-24 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Understood.

[And with a quick backward glance to check that everything is in place (it is), Conan is slipping out of the crypt. The caretaker is waiting, Conan needing his help to get the bolt over the door in place. It's heavy, but if Sam can't get out, at least no one is likely to get in to bother her.]
