END OF ARC 1: DAY 169-170 DOWNTIME

[The first battle is over, but the second will begin any time. For two days, the enemy forces will remain on the other side of the battlefield, working on strategy and tending to their wounded. Both sides have taken heavy losses, and the Arena is full of the hurt and dying.

The battlefield itself has turned to a bloody, muddy mess. The elves will be asking the Army Engineers group and anyone else willing to help them lay timber and gravel out to make the ground easier to walk on for the next battle.

What will you do in your breathing space? Keep working, mourn your losses, or retreat from the horrors of war?]

[ooc note: This log takes place IC on Days 169-170/Nov 4-7. Please be sure you've read the plot post and the battle log's starting info thoroughly. Make absolutely sure that you include the day/rough time in the subject line of top-level comments, as well as if your thread is open or closed.

In addition to the battle log, there is a full-event log for those hiding out in Folkvang here. If you have any questions, please direct them to the mod post so everyone else can see them!]

And look like a lunatic? Maybe I'll just leave that to you since she seems to scare you so much.

[ Seriously, he can imagine it now. Also he's curious as to who this sister is because Jackson's never had any siblings of his own, so the idea of this friendly banter or rivalry -- it's all a foreign concept to him. The closest thing would probably his competitiveness with Scott and he thinks the other boy's a useless idiot most of the time, so. But he settles for a small amused grin at Arthur's words. ]

Sounds like he's a real Sir Dumbass to me. I wouldn't want to get wasted. [ he rolls his eyes because yeah, the idea of being too drunk means he can't keep himself in control and that's not a thing that Jackson likes to be around others. ]

We have been met with countless creatures of ice and fire today, and yet I can tell you with certainty there is nothing more frightening than a woman that loves you and knows how to wield a sword.

[ Morgana is a wonder among wonders, and they make for a pair rather unlike any other. They were siblings before they were siblings (before the chance to be siblings was taken away from him, before she left) and maybe that is something to fear. The lengths we go to for the people we love -

This is good, though, to see Jackson smiling and making jokes, however small they might be. It's a step in the right direction, and Arthur shoots him a narrowed glance. ]

If there is one thing I never quite managed to adapt to, it is your age's vernacular.

[ He wonders, vaguely, what would happen if he were to remember Asgard and one day say 'Sir Dumbass' in Court, or to his men. It makes him smile just a little; the stories he would have to tell them. ]

Kay was young then, and nervous as could be. He still drinks too much on the eve before battle, but the night is for toasts to home and honour. If there were any to spare, we might spill a goblet or two.

[ What are age limits? Arthur would totally drink with a sixteen year old. ]

So, is she your sister or your girlfriend?

[ Arthur dude, pick a less ambiguous way of phrasing these things or else Jackson's just going to regard him with a look. It's mostly a joke, but -- one never knows about the olden days. They also didn't believe in hygiene, so. ]

Maybe my age is more upfront about things. [ Jackson would take pride in knowing he got to christen Sir Dumbass's new nickname. ]

How about after the battle then? If we're still alive. [ he'd normally not sound so unsure, but man, this battle. even he can't be stupidly overconfident about it. ]

[ Arthur snorts through a laugh with a shake of his head. He only knows the word 'girlfriend' by virtue of Buffy freaking out when Arthur called her Sam Winchester's consort. ]

My sister, by half. We share a father. Though I will tell you, for years before we knew of our relation, she wished to be my Queen.

[ Ha, totally ratting out Morgana. He accompanies it with the sort of comical wide eyes of can you believe that? and conveniently leave out the bit where he once wished the same as well. ]

Oh, gods. Of this, I am certain. You people have no sense of shame.

[ Damn Mary Winchester and her parading around their house in boyshorts, who does that.

But, ah. There it is: the uncertainty and the morbidity brought about by an unspoken fear. Shared by all, for all that no one knows it. Arthur pauses, his smile a bit more subdued. ]

When we survive this, and if we are still in Asgard, I would be honoured to purchase your first round as a seasoned warrior. [ He inclines his head a little, a courteous gesture, before raising a brow. ] But first, you've got to drink that water I gave you.

Isn't that... a little bit messed up?

[ but hey, you guys back in the day got up to all kinds of incestuous things. HE AIN'T JUDGING. MUCH. ]

Hey, I don't see what shame has to do with any of it. Just because we aren't some medieval prudes.

[ YES HE WENT THERE. also, he sees what you did there Arthur. You're lucky that he's letting himself give in at this point because the water does seem appealing after all this talking. He holds his hand out for it by means of conceding. ]

If we're still here, I'm definitely reminding you that you owe me one.

In retrospect, I suppose so. I was only made aware a week before my arrival here.

[ Said quietly, eyes skirting across the Arena for a moment. He learnt the truth when Morgana usurped the throne from his father. Their family isn't exactly healthy.

But it passes quickly, trespasses forgiven long ago, and the look he gives Jackson is chiding. ]

It's nothing to do with prudishness. It's called respect and courtesy, traditions of old lost by your generation.

[ You are the rude ones, you rude thing. x( Arthur hands over the water bottle with a small smile. ]

See that you do. I am, if nothing else, a man of my word.
