[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

That's true...! I take it back. It's better this way.

[... Yeah, okay, she's just going to. Try to stifle her giggles behind a hand now.]

[Jane wraps an arm around her middle, the laughter's building up and she can barely contain most of it!]

Consider it taken back!!

[Okay, no, that's it, she's done, she's just. She's going to laugh, now, and can't nobody stop her.]

[And so is Jane, probably the hardest she has in a while. It feels good to laugh like that!]

[That it does, and Naminé could use a laugh right about now. So she just-- does, spurred on by the fact that she isn't laughing alone. (She still covers her mouth.)]

[It is always so much better to laugh with a friend. That way the joy is doubled!

There's a dip in Jane's laughter as she thinks she's recovering from it...oh, but nope, she dives right back into it again.]

[Which can really only make Naminé do the same, because that's sort of funny in and of itself.]

[It's a nice kind of laughing at her, though? (Not that there's every any other kind, with Naminé.)]

[What - it's not laughing at anyone in any way! It's laughing together. That is completely different.]

[Of course, of course. Although-- it's kind of funny, suddenly starting to laugh all over again. Or cute, rather - either way, Naminé can appreciate that, too, and laugh all the more freely with Jane for that.]

[It's just how some laughter works. You think it's over, and it calms, and then it starts bubbling over again! Kind of like a pot full of boiling milk that you stirred and turned away from, thinking it wouldn't overflow.

Jane's calming down now, and it seems that she should be calm for good this time...]

[It's not the kind of laughter she's ever had much chance to experience, really. That makes her all the more grateful for the opportunity.]

[Calming, herself, she tries to catch her breath - and kind of makes things harder for herself by trying to say,]

My-- chest feels funny.

[In a good way, if her cheerful tone is any indication.]

Oh - oh, are you okay?

[Even so, Jane's first reaction is to be concerned, and she's brought a hand to her own chest herself.]

I think we just - overdid it a little with laughing. That's all.

Yes, I-- I think I'm fine.

[Her fingers curl inward, hand pressed to her own chest, as well.]

That must be it. I don't remember the last time I laughed like that.

[... She probably hasn't ever laughed like that.]

[A little gasp. Jane bounces right back after a good laugh, so she's a little less winded.]

Then we should remedy that!

[Maybe Naminé will do better, herself, with a little practice.]

I think I like the sound of that. I mean-- you don't have to feel obligated to, but... you're a fun person to laugh with.

It's not an obligation. It's just what friends do!

[Still such a strange word, even if it makes her smile widely to say it.]

'Guess I've still got some things to learn about that.

[Jane gives another laugh - much softer, much smaller.]

Oh, gosh, don't we all.

Yes... I suppose we do. It seems like no matter what there's always something new to learn about each other or some way to surprise even the people who know you best.

But that's good! It's always good to get to know new sides to people.

Mmhm! It really is. Whether those parts are pretty or not, it's... comforting, somehow.

I suppose it could be comforting. I just like to think of it as nice.

That too. I guess... for me, it helps me because I-- [She hesitates, rethinking speaking her mind. But--] ... Well, I was around... a lot of untrustworthy people, before.

[They're not especially close, so Jane wouldn't blame her for rethinking it.] Really? What made them so untrustworthy?
