[She smiles in full at the stranger. This attitude, the excitement and appreciation - it reminds her a bit of the Doctor.]

I guess so many people are sore about being pulled away from home. But it's not always bad, this place.

Well, can't say I had a home to be pulled away from, so perhaps that makes it easier?

[Messaline had been the place of her creation, but not really her home. She hadn't really found that yet.]

I 'spose that would make Asgard a bit less of a prison, then, for you.

[That's... a sadder answer than Rose was hoping to hear. Her smile fades just the slightest.]

Where've you come here from?

From traveling through space, and before that, a world called Messaline.

[She's obviously still not too upset about the circumstances.]

[Her eyes light up at "traveling through space".]

Can't say I've been to Messaline, but I've spent my fair share of time in space. Born and raised on Earth, though.

Really?

[Oh, she looks highly interested.]

I've never been to Earth, but I've heard a bit about it. Not too much though. I just happen to know someone from there, and my dad spends a lot of time there from what I've gathered about him.

Yeah? Is Messaline pretty close, then?

No, I don't think it is. But the person I'm talking about happens to travel with my dad and traveling doesn't seem as if the distance matters too much for him. Mind you, I could be wrong, but it seems that way.

[Her description does remind her of the Doctor, and she smiles, but the possibility doesn't even cross her mind.]

You ever traveled with him, then? Sounds like an exciting way to grow up.

No, I never got the chance. Wish I had though. Maybe someday I will, but that's only providing I meet with him again.

I hope that you do.

[Ah, an absent father situation, Rose figures.]

I've got a friend I travel around with. Changed my life, meeting up with him.

I do too. Would be great to learn from him a bit more.

[Not absent by normal circumstances at least.]

Really? I wonder if the traveling would change mine too. I know my dad already changed it plenty just by being on my world. Changed my whole way of thinking.

Same for me. Funny how you never realize what all you're missing out on, 'till you see it.

[She gives Jenny a sunny smile.]

I don't think I've ever been taught about most of the places the Doctor and I went. Not sure most people on Earth would know to teach us about them.

[And hearing that officially made her pause and stare for a second.]

Wait, the Doctor?

[Obvious familiarity there.]

[Rose's brow furrows, and her eyes widen in surprise.]

... Yeah. You know him?

[Her smile only widens.]

Yeah.

[Delivery in 3. 2. 1.]

He's my dad.

He's... your dad?

[Rose's jaw works at producing more words. With a cold pounding in her ears, she remembers what he'd said, in 2012. He'd been a dad before. Of course, he'd never elaborated on that, but she wonders if this girl in front of her was one of the faces he was picturing, one of the people he'd lost long before he took Rose's hand and told her to run. This Messaline planet - was it his home, then? He'd never told her. He talked and talked and talked, but he'd never told her what was really important. Suddenly, she feels very sad and very small. She wants to forget Jenny and run, run far across the city and away from this encounter, but she's not a coward. Steeling herself, she tries to look unshaken.]

Are you a Time Lord, then?

Yeah, he is.

[She seems to think on the Time Lord part for a second.]

I suppose I am. Yeah, I think I count as one. Sort of.

[It was a little more complicated then that.]

Or at least I'm a generated one.

[To Rose's 21st century mind, "generated" doesn't immediately entail cloning - it strikes her as just a fancy way to say "reproduce".]

What do you mean by that? Was your mum one, too?

[A small laugh.]

I don't have a mum. Not biologically anyway unless you wanted to count my dad again.

[Which would be accurate too since he made up both parents.]

[The Doctor having a baby with himself is too disastrous a concept to warrant imagining at this point in time.]

Oh. So it isn't...

[There's no graceful way to broach the question of Time Lord reproduction to your best friend's daughter. Especially not when the situation turns out not warrant it at all.]

You said you know someone from Earth? Someone who travels with him?

[She actually sort of sees where that thought process is going just a little, so she's just going to put it out there.][Now, onto that Earth subject.]

Yeah, Donna. [She grins at the memory of Donna.] And another girl too. Martha I think her name was. I didn't get to know her too well though, I mostly chatted with Donna.

Never met either of them. They must have traveled with him before.

[Because, having met her current Doctor's frankly frightening future self, she can't imagine him leaving a good impression on this girl. And that just left the one in the bow tie, who did seem friendly enough, if not sad and peculiar.]

It's probably a strange question, but what did he look like when you met him? Your dad, I mean.
