I was created to be one and my dad said he fought in a war. A really big one.

I try not to be much of a soldier myself though. I chose not to be.

I said that "We don't have a choice." But then he only told me "We always have a choice."

When I got around to actually thinking about it, he was right. Or I feel he was.

It's certainly true. Though sometimes, unfortunately, a trifle naive.

Sometimes the choice is killing or death. Death not just of yourself, but others too.

Why? Why do those kinds of choices have to exist?

Because the power of destruction is a tempting one. People fall in love with the vision of having their enemies destroyed, having complete control of their lives and the lives around them and it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to wrest that vision from them.

Have you ever fought in a war?

I've managed to avoid killing, but when you're born into a war, it's a little hard to avoid.

I'm from Gallifrey. It's, thankfully, not currently at war. [Unfortunately, currently is the operative word.]

What's it like? You never actually told me anything about it even though I'd asked.

It's old and advanced and has been around for a very long time politically. I don't know what to tell you. 'What's it like' is a very broad and vague sort of question.
