[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard

Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.

It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.

Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.

On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!

Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?

You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival ([personal profile] sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.

edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

[ D269: Wagons! Wow, it's something that Gwaine vaguely understands what he's doing with, and therefore this trip is plus ten in the excitement factor. It shows pretty clearly- though for what it's worth, is fairly tame in comparison to the Great Sea Adventure of days past. What is apparently a routine shopping expedition is expected, after all, and it's fine by him. People could do with a bit of ease now and again. The ride out is spent in typical fashion: socially. Wagonmates, beware, he is armed and talkative. A fair share of his time does get devoted to the Natives accompanying our friendly caravan. People person, what can you do. It's too bad they're not the talkative sort themselves, and he'll let them be once that's properly gotten across, but the effort had to go out and all.

On arrival, he complies with all supply-gathering demands and instructions as they arise, without complaint. Knew this was what he signed himself up for, after all. And he complies with a couple of those Natives' suggestions here and there, as well. Probably mostly because hey they are sort of interacting that's pretty great. Never take your guide's word for granted, eh? ]

[ D270: EXPLORATION. Fairly self-explanatory, really. That modern city vibe still isn't old news to Gwaine just yet.

He's got energy to spend, ladies to devotedly find souvenirs for, people familiar and not so familiar to approach, and inevitably some kind of shenanigans to wind up involved in. Trouble, he's hoping for not quite so much. Be impolite to cause a big ruckus under someone else's caravan reputation.

Also, food.

That is a very, very important use of resources. ]

[Inara's spent a good deal since their arrival at Utgard, shopping for various styles of jackets, just like was suggested. She can't seem to help herself and has gone through the trouble of picking up coats she thinks people from home might like, should they arrive. There's just one problem, she's bought more than she can carry on her own.

But lucky for her, she spots Sir Gwaine. She smiles and pauses, shifting the many items in her arms, trying desperately not to drop any of them.]

Sir Gwaine! Truly, I do apologize for bothering you... But I was hoping you could help me with these.
verybigpheasants: (and maybe Merlin's got MAGIC.)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-05-26 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ Gwaine's more or less found himself in a lull of activity for the moment. For the knightly sort, that means keeping an eye open for trouble until someone gives him any kind of job to do. He's been serving Arthur for a good long while now, by his usual sticking standards, so it isn't a position he's unfamiliar with. Not the best job, though.

He positively perks at being hailed, and by a familiar lady, no less. She has most definitely got him jogging over to take some of the load. ]

Lady Inara! I'd be honoured to be of assistance.
companioning: shindig (ooh going to try)

[personal profile] companioning 2013-05-28 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Inara beams at him, glad to have some of the load taken from her. Really, her arms had begun to ache from the unaccustomed weight of it all.]

Thank you, truly. I believe I went a bit overboard with shopping this time.

[She has the good grace to shoot him a sheepish smile.]

Though, I must insist you just call me Inara, honestly, I have not been given the honor of that title.
verybigpheasants: (more like camelot-of-fine-asses)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-05-31 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm happy to oblige. [ He still inclines his head. ] Though I'd have to say that a title's nothing but a word. You're entirely honorable with or without it.
companioning: shindig (sweet whispers mean little)

[personal profile] companioning 2013-06-01 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
[She ducks her head a little at his compliment before she flashes him another smile.] You are entirely too kind, Sir Gwaine.

[She begins to walk again, it's so much easier now that she doesn't feel like she's about to fall over.]

Have you found anything of interest here in the city?
verybigpheasants: (why gwen is the best exhibit A)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-06-05 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
So far, rather a great deal of anythings. I imagine there are some things about the place better enjoyed by a 'man of the future', as it were. [ And in place of putting together air quotes, he just tosses his hair. ] But what's to stop someone else from trying, eh?
companioning: shindig (pretty smile)

[personal profile] companioning 2013-06-07 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[She really can't help but smile at that hair toss, it was rather magnificent.] Well surely there has to be something here that you might enjoy. Perhaps after we drop this load at the wagons we can try and find that something.
verybigpheasants: (more like camelot-of-fine-asses)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-06-07 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Touring a city with a beautiful lady? You need only suggest it once. These things are much better with company.
companioning: shindig (can't change now)

[personal profile] companioning 2013-06-10 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
You flatter me, Sir Gwaine, with your sweet words. Thank you. [It is always nice to hear such nice words of flattery from handsome men. She flashes him a warm smile and begins to walk toward the area the wagons are kept.]

You'll have to let me know what you have seen so far so we don't revisit them.
verybigpheasants: (the short answer is aliens.)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-06-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be sure to do my level best. Not that I'd object to revisiting any area that took your interest, of course. [ He'd basically tour the entire city repeatedly for the sake of a pretty lady. That's just life. ]
companioning: shindig (oh now that's hilarious)

[personal profile] companioning 2013-06-21 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well it wouldn't do to have you grow bored, so I think we can skip the areas you've seen already. [Now see, if all the men in Asgard were as kind and considerate as he was, Inara would be most pleased.]

Perhaps we can get something to eat as well?
bonnypiperlad: (Doctor!)

[Food is an incredibly important use of resources, and very high on Jamie's list as well. As luck would have it, he's found a place that caters to those who like to walk around and eat at the same time, and is now wandering about with a paper cone full of something that looks a bit strange but smells fairly decent.

He's just about to pop a piece in his mouth when he spots Gwaine, and decides to try and get his attention instead. Dropping the piece back into the cone, he cups his hand around his mouth - the better to call over to the other man.]

Gwaine! Hey, Gwaine!
verybigpheasants: (not executed what now bitch)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-05-26 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ooh, somebody who knows him, that's always a nice turn. Gwaine, complete with a precautionary traveling pack just in case, promptly stops in the middle of the street and looks confused until he finds the culprit. At which point he waves and starts pushing his way over. ]

If it isn't Jamie! Might've known I'd catch you along for the journey.
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-05-28 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ And, generally, where you find Jamie, the Doctor isn't far away. He's still hovering by the stand Jamie purchased that cone, but effectively gets distracted by the sound of Gwaine's voice.

So he turns away from it and slips over to Jamie's side. ]

Sir Gwaine, hello!
bonnypiperlad: (aye)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2013-05-28 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, well, how could I turn down the chance to come take a look at this place?

[Besides, someone has to keep an eye on the Doctor. And by this point Jamie didn't even blink an eye when he turned up a little earlier on this afternoon in a velvet coat and cravat of all things. After Six's coat, it's actually a bit of a relief.]

Besides, I've not had anything like some of the food that's around here. Ye should try some of this stuff in the cone here. It's quite good.

[He goes to offer said cone out just as the Doctor steps up.]

Oh, there ye are, Doctor. I take it the two of ye know each other, then?
verybigpheasants: (then I'll have to kill you :))

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-05-31 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's well worth the looking. I ought to have made the journey sooner. [ Being a man with no ability to turn down offered food, Gwaine takes Jamie up on that while the Doctor makes his approach. He's got a friendly smile for the Doctor, too, as ever (somewhat interrupted by Gwaine pulling a face and swallowing. definitely interesting wares they're selling). ]

We've crossed paths here and there. Dressed for the occasion, did you, Doctor?
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-06 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes.

[ He fingers a bit on the coat. ]

I thought I would. Like it?
bonnypiperlad: (trying to figure it out)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2013-06-09 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Jamie, for his part, chooses to mutter into his cone of interesting street food.]

Aye, well, at least it's better than that coat from the other day.

[Then he looks up from the cone again and goes back to a more normal tone of voice, although he does offer the twist of paper out to the Doctor as well.]

It's an interesting place, I'll give it that much. Say, Doctor, I don't suppose you've been here before, have ye?
verybigpheasants: (I SHALL SHOVE YOU OUT THE DOOR)

[personal profile] verybigpheasants 2013-06-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Very polished. [ And the man with blissful little idea what the coat from the other day was, right here. Also yep, he's on Jamie's side of curiosity here. ] Yes! Had the time for the travel since you arrived?
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-19 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bless. ]

Ah, yes. This is my fourth go, actually. I only wish it was a little more exciting.
bonnypiperlad: (Look...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2013-06-22 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
More exciting? Och, there's got to be something around here to do that's exciting, Doctor.

[He gestures in the direction of the buildings. There's plenty of them around, after all, and he can't believe the Doctor couldn't find something in the midst of all this.]

Hey, I know. Maybe we could go someplace here you've not been yet and see what we can find. What do ye think, Doctor? Gwaine?
