[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard
Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!
[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.
It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.
Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.
On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!
Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?
You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival (
sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]
[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.
edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

270 | Market place [Placeholder, tags after 5/27]
Lavi had thought that they were but perhaps he was wrong.
Working with the Natives to get their belongings sold and purchasing new ones had given Lavi time to blow off the steam that had built up. He had wanted to find Allen and give him a talking to for running off like that. Didn't he trust Lavi? The redhead only wanted to help in any way that he could.
The thought that he had perhaps lost his only good friend in this place drained the rest of the fight right out of him. He had taken his pay and the words of the Natives with a numb mind, wandering the streets and for once in his life not even looking around with avid curiosity. The only thing he took care of was to keep his bracelet and coins tightly in hand. He wandered toward a fountain and sat on its edge, watching people go by but not seeing.
It was going to be a long day.]

It was Allen, after all. To not see his name on the list was worrisome as well. To be quite honest, he wouldn't have know what to do if it were a permanent disappearance. People built relationships, and from those relationship, they built parts of their lives around such people. That was him.
So he thought he might as well leave for a bit, from things were there reminders of the absence.
Fancy running into Lavi here, though. For the sake of courtesy, he walks over to say at least a few words. ] Is this your first time here?

On arrival, he complies with all supply-gathering demands and instructions as they arise, without complaint. Knew this was what he signed himself up for, after all. And he complies with a couple of those Natives' suggestions here and there, as well. Probably mostly because hey they are sort of interacting that's pretty great. Never take your guide's word for granted, eh? ]
[ D270: EXPLORATION. Fairly self-explanatory, really. That modern city vibe still isn't old news to Gwaine just yet.
He's got energy to spend, ladies to devotedly find souvenirs for, people familiar and not so familiar to approach, and inevitably some kind of shenanigans to wind up involved in. Trouble, he's hoping for not quite so much. Be impolite to cause a big ruckus under someone else's caravan reputation.
Also, food.
That is a very, very important use of resources. ]
D269
But lucky for her, she spots Sir Gwaine. She smiles and pauses, shifting the many items in her arms, trying desperately not to drop any of them.]

Well. Missionish. Asgard isn't the sort of place that seems to be teeming with answers to make a mission of finding so far. But not every place is, she knows. Can't let it ruin a nice time or potential exciting adventure. The more people keeping an eye on the Doctor, the better, besides. She's making friendly conversation with just about whoever she happens upon for chatting with both on the ride over and throughout the supplies-run aspect of things. Which she has no issues trying to roll up her sleeves and make herself useful for. The oddly specific examples Thor gave in their very brief network conversation have her taking those suggestions of cold-weather supply relatively seriously. They don't seem to be on the lists in any official type of capacity, but it doesn't hurt to pick up the odd pair of gloves or heater where someone recommends it. ]
[ Day 270: Anyone who's filled the Doctor's Companion slot knows how to get in their fill of wandering about and nosy investigation, whether they've moved on from TARDIS travel just yet or not. Mel loves her other-planet tourism more than anything, and boy is it showing today. Never waste an opportunity to experience another culture, however great or small the differences are, and never forget how to enjoy yourself while you're not in mortal peril.
Eat the food, get lost in the streets, stop in all the shops, talk to the people. Even a big glorified errand can be a properly enjoyable experience. She's learned that for herself more than once. It's definitely something to try sharing the joy over, at any rate, and she is in fine friendly form with others.
Things to investigate. Fun to be had. Wonderment to give into. You know how it is. ]

It's a pretty cool place to be, he supposes, though he wonders if what Dirk said was correct, that the animals here were Asgardian and not... normal sorts of animals. Eight legged horses and all that. Might be interesting to practice on, at the very least.

DAYS 269 & 270
She is also playing with some jacks, but the caravan is moving, so she's not exactly having an easy time of it. Careful, or you'll probably step on one as it goes skittering across the floor.
On DAY 270, she will be found all over the city, bags and satchels slung over her shoulder, shopping sacks hanging from her forearm. Someone is having a hell of a good time in Utgard, but if she spots anyone wearing one of Asgard's bracelets? She'll sidle right up and greet 'em. ]
Hey! What've you bought so far?
Day 269
Oh yeah, and there was a girl playing with tiny bladed objects too. Also interesting, but first: dog introduction.
So Henry sidles over, juuust as the caravan goes over a particularly bumpy part. Of course he loses his balance. Of course there are a bunch of newly-flung metal things in his path.
Crunch. Oh, that's always a good sound.
Henry barely catches himself on handfuls of Jade and fuzzy dog. He laughs.]

DAY 269 and 270
[Naminé spends a lot of the time during the trip looking out at what of the view can be seen from the wagon, hands folded neatly on her lap of the material of her white sundress and a small smile lingering around her lips.]
[DAY 269 - City]
[In keeping with her occupation, Naminé seems to be focusing on attending to the medical supplies for the most part. She's quite dutiful about it, and spends much of the day on that endeavor.]
[DAY 270]
['Shopping' appears to have turned into 'sightseeing', at least in part. She's got more than enough spending money, but it seems she's much more interested in exploring the city and visiting as many significant places as possible. ... Which... may occasionally end up leaving her wandering around looking mildly confused, sometimes, because it's not exactly a familiar place and getting a little bit lost sometimes is bound to happen, right? She's pretty good about finding her way back to places she recognizes, at least.]

269/270 - Out and About
Samantha was, from the earliest point that the wagons were present, available and helping with the early stages of loading and unloading. She'd made sure that there was enough of a stock of medicines before this trip to allow for it to proceed smoothly. Restocking on herbs was definitely on the list of things to do, so she wanted to be there to help out as much as possible.
The girl somehow didn't look nearly as sour as she usually did, though she was definitely on the serious side as always.
270
Finding Samantha in her shopping trips wasn't exactly easy per se. She only made the basic assistance in purchasing what was strictly needed for the trip everyone was on. Instead, after she made her most recent herbal orders in person, one would have to know what it was she was looking for to be certain where she was.
Why was she buying mountaineering gear, though?
269
"Ah, Samantha. Good day to you."

Days 269/270 | Open of course!
Traveling! Traveling is excellent! TARDIS travel was the best, and even a gondola ride in Venice or a hot air balloon ride over the tulip fields of the Netherlands were nice.
This...this is a fairly slow wagon ride. Not quite the same.
Still, it's better than being stuck in Asgard, so Eight does what he can to enjoy the ride, looking around at the sights he hasn't yet seen before and chatting cheerfully with whoever is sitting nearby.
[Day 269, city]
Eight really enjoys the presence of the colorful Natives, happy for the reminder that their work has produced some positive results. He takes a shopping list, perfectly happy to do his part. It wasn't exciting, but it was productive, and he was going to practice what he preached to the gods.
The admonition about winter clothing makes him pause briefly, however. He shades his eyes with a hand and looks up into rather sunny, clear skies. With a thoughtful frown, he tucks that information away for later. Needing winter clothes when it is nearly summer is certainly a clue for...something.
[Day 270]
With it being rather hot on this day, Eight leaves his coat behind in the wagons, opting to wander the marketplace in just a plain white t-shirt and blue jeans, which is likely to be an odd look for those used to the other Doctor's eccentricities.
For the most part, he's been picking up just a trinket or two, and maybe some pretties for the ladies he's met. Mainly cheap things that are meant more for amusement than amazement.
That is, until he stops at a booth selling musical instruments, and snatches up a violin that was sitting in it's case on the table. It looks used, but serviceable. A few gentle plucks on the strings show that it could use some tuning, but not as much as he expected.
It takes very little deciding before he dumps the remainder of his coin into the merchant's hands and collects his prize.
Day 269
"It really is beautiful out here."
He took a deep breath taking in that fresh air.
"I am surprised Utgard is so close. I thought it might take us longer than a half day to reach it."

All the days | OTA | Prose or action are both fine!
[ Currently in his seventh personality, he doesn't actually say much, but if someone were to look more closely at him, they'd see that his eyes are following everyone's moves, as far as he can see. He's got the tweed jacket on, but he has a sweater vest over his shirt, and has brought an umbrella that he leans somewhat on while he sits in the wagon.
As soon as they're in Utgard, however, he sets to action to make sure that everything that needs purchasing gets purchased. And he most definitely notes the somewhat odd insistence of the natives to suggest gloves and coats and warmers, and he'll ask every single one about it if it's brought up. Still, he never really comments any further on it.
But, really, he's kind of skulking a lot in the background overall. You're free to notice.
And suddenly he happens to have a bit of a Scottish accent. Okay then. ]
Day 270
[ In his eighth personality, the Doctor is back to being considerably more bubbly and excited. It's getting closer to the Doctor Asgard is most familiar with again, really, which hasn't exactly happened for a good few days. Utgard is hardly anything new, but he still explores with something like glee and wonder.
And he'll also be shopping. Mainly looking for something to get River, actually.
But you can catch him a bit all over the place, and after noon he'll have found himself a velvet coat to replace the tweed with.
And added a cravat. ]
Day 271
[ With the ninth personality, he reverts somewhat from the bubbly-ness once again. Not very obviously, and if you talk to him he'll certainly seem happy enough. He doesn't explore much and instead opts to hover around where the natives prepare for the return trip.
He also doesn't have any jacket on him at all and - gasp - has for the first time during the curse dropped the bowtie. It'll be left in the room he stays in together with the velvet coat and the tweed and braces unless someone (one of his friends, for example) take the liberty to bring them along. The top buttons of his shirt will be undone too.
And he's adopted a northern accent this time around.
By the time they're on the way back, he'll look more bored than anything. Tucked into a corner of the wagon, arms crossed and legs sprawled out. Travelling linear.
He's definitely wondering if there's some way to make these wagons go quicker, and trying to think of some things to try. If there's any way to get to them, or get the natives to give it a go, or anything. ]

Days 269 & 270 - prose or action is fine!
When the caravan arrives, he needs a few seconds to adapt to how long and lively the city is. It's a whirl of activity and he subtly clamps down on being overwhelmed by it all. That aside, he complies to the Natives suggestions and gets what is asked for. He only takes seconds to get clarifications and discuss pricing with merchants. To be prepared is something that's a family tradition.]
[Day 270: Dirk had brought some cash of his own, which when boosted by the amount paid for his services would be more than enough for what he wanted. He set out in the city, and can be seen in the marketplace purchasing simple tools and equipment.
At one point he discusses with a vendor for parts that look suspiciously like parts of a machine. Thread, fabric, sewing kit, cords, wires, cables, and the like. He only gets what he needs and all of it for two specific projects. He'd promised to build Dave a set of turntables. He has no intention of backing down from what he'd said he'd do.
On the side, he also takes a moment to purchase and do so discretely throwing knives, all-purpose boots, and a few climbing hooks. The gods are going to send them out to different places. He wants to be ready when they do.]
Day 269
She pushes the thought from her mind.
She grew up in a forest, blind and alone, and now she lives in a city full of multitransdimensional citizens. It's no weirder than than her usual life experiences, but you know. Everything takes a measure of adjustment.
The whole caravan party is filled to the brim with familiar scents but most of them disperse quickly; Terezi hangs back, letting them go, briefly wondering if she should just run out into the woods and climb trees until it's time to leave and she can stick to Asgard's gardens and alleys and side-streets. Maybe she will. Maybe--
There's someone else who hasn't skittered off yet who she recognizes, and she gnaws the corner of her mouth before edging in that direction, coming to stand at his side as her fingers flex against the shaft of her cane.
She doesn't quite know what to say.]

Day 269/270 | OTA | Prose or action are fine here too
[ Probably unsurprisingly, Uther keeps to himself during the trip, and probably doesn't seem very approachable. You're still free to do so, of course.
By the time they arrive, he'll be keeping a close eye to make sure everything's purchased, and see if there's anything the natives have missed. As soon as all of that's done, he's going to retire and not come out for the rest of the day. You are, of course, free to pay him a visit if you have a reason to. ]
Day 270
[ He doesn't go out much today either. Most of the time he stays indoors and keeps to himself (and, once again, feel free to visit). Around noon, however, he makes his way out on the streets for an hour or two, and having a look at the market. You might find him looking at dresses.
Nothing terribly exciting here, though. ]
Day 270
Though, on her way back to the wagons, she sees Uther looking at dresses. She doesn't really know him, but she has seen him on the network a couple of times. She moves a little closer to him.]

Days 269 Wagons and 270 Anywhere in Utgard | Open
It was a bit early in the day for him but Leonardo still made his way to the wagons and kind of drowsily climbed up to sit next to one of the drivers. Once he finally woke up this position would afford him a great view o the coming journey and give him a chance to sketch...
*YAWN*
If... that was he actually could wake up.
“Why do journeys always have to begin so early in the day?”
[Day 270]
It was nice to be out of Asgard! Not that the city was a terrible place or anything but Leonardo did enjoy travel and there hadn’t been much opportunity to do that since he arrived. And Utgard was a marvelous place! He had thought Asgard was advanced with it’s technology but Utgard seemed even more so! The artist spent his time flitting from one store to the next investigating absolutely everything that was strange and different.
Some how he had even convinced one of the Asgard Natives to come along with him.
Probably by grabbing the young man’s arm and dragging him along before he could protest. The poor man found himself laden down with interesting trinkets Leonardo would be returning home with. Though he had been warned they would not work in Asgard it didn’t really matter, he intended to take them apart to see how they were put together anyway.no subject
It wasn't that he wasn't looking forward to the trip, he needed some excitement going on, but what was he to do all cooped up in here?

[shopping! sophie's attempting to divide her attention between her surroundings and the things she's there to buy. the natives' subtle hints haven't gone unnoticed, and she's walking around with connor picking out a few carefully chosen pieces of winter gear]
270
[today is the day for exploring the city, and despite sophie's anxiety she's making good on it. she's still not wandering about alone, but she can be found almost anywhere, including the zoo.]
269
In the midst of his shuffling through red coats and blue coats and striped coats and polka-dotted coats, he looks up and spots a young woman on the other side.
"You might want something a little more heat-conserving than that."

[ushahin had been intending a trip to utgard anyway, so it isn't really any more or less trouble to go on the official jaunt. he chooses the wagon of a driver he recognizes and sits quietly with a belegged chest at his feet and his eyes closed for the duration of the trip, unless he's disturbed. once they arrive, his main interests in shopping seem to be small luxury imports it's more difficult to find in asgard, and clothing. if he hears the natives' suggestions (and it's likely he does, there's little ushahin doesn't hear), he mostly seems to be ignoring them]
270
[if one follows ushahin on his shopping, they may find themselves in the...greyer areas of the market, and many of the places he disappears into are small shops, down the alleys of major shopping streets, or unlabeled entirely. his chest follows him around everywhere like a living wheeled suitcase.]
271
[not quite finished with utgard, ushahin sends a box back to asgard in the doctor's care, but he stays in the city instead of leaving with the caravan]
270
There was a pickaxe slung on the opposite side of her sickle and chain and a satchel filled with thing that jangled. She was motioning to the shop-keep who seemed to be haggling with her over the prices of herbs when she glanced over at Ushahin.]

D269-271 || Everywhere || Open
[ She came along because she is curious about this world. What and whom she can use, how she can use it, and perhaps finding things like glitter is also on her priorities list. Sitting on the caravan while she plays with her trident, Condesce pretty much ignores everyone and regrets not having found some shitty human music player to entertain her.
When they arrive, she regrets ever coming. She hates this world. This world should burn. It's better than Earth, though. But that's not saying much, Earth is shitty as it is. ]
D270
[ Fuck coats.
She doesn't care about coats. She hates heat already, why would she even buy something to make her warmer?
That's until she sees a hot pink coat with glitters and she absolutely must have.
So on the 270, Condesce is carrying a coat around, along with her trident. She does, however, buy kitchen utensils. A LOT OF THEM. She pretty much spent all her money on that exactly. And may have stolen some others. ]
D271
[ By the end of this trip. Condesce has decided she likes Utgard a lot more than Asgard and if she was to conquer this world, Utgard would flood last. Now with her new kitchen and baking utensils, her awesome pink coat, Condesce humms something that may sound like Earth Nicki Minaj's "Starships".
She is actually in a good mood, but doesn't mean she gives a damn about some native's questions. ]
D270
Well.
No way in hell this wasn't going to be awkward. ]
That's not a very practical coat.

[For the most part during the actual journey, Draco had kept to himself. Some may be surprised to see he is wearing headphones and is hunched over a notebook, but others might not be that surprised.
By the time they arrive in the city, he's going to make quick work to grab what the Natives suggested, crossing things off of his list and trying not to think too much about why winter wear would be required when it's nearly summer. Still, he reckons the faster he can finish, the more time he could have for himself.]
D270
[City life. Shopping. Things Draco was used to. Anyone else out and about will find him examining merchandise and purchasing things to take back to Asgard. He seems to be mostly hung up on various pieces of technology he's not used to, such as computers and the like. He's not in a huge hurry though, so he's more likely to chat with everyone else and be a nosy prat, judge people on their own purchases. You know, Malfoy-things.]
D271
[This day is much like their first traveling day, except he's more open to chatting with people. The headphones are tucked away, as is the notebook. He'll be rummaging through his purchases to make sure everything was safe and sound. However, he'll be suspiciously watching the over-active Native, possibly talking to his fellow travelers to see if they find his behavior just as suspicious.]

[Kara didn't particularly have anything better to do, since she had only more recently arrived. She figured she might as well go along and help pick up some supplies. Supplies were important, after all, it gave her something productive to do and she could get out and explore a bit as well. It couldn't hurt, to know the area better. She's not sure if this might be a more regular thing, trips into Utgard, but either way, she'll check it out and be on the wagon there and back, wandering once they arrive and gathering supplies. It was. Nice, to have everything so freely available like this in comparison to supply worries back home, especially medicine. She mostly concentrates on getting the supplies, not too concerned about checking out other shops or stalls, figuring she could leave that for tomorrow.]
Day 270:
[Today, Kara is merely exploring, browsing the other shops and stalls she didn't pay attention to yesterday. She doesn't look too thrilled at the sight of the computers. It's instinctive to be wary of them, of such technology after the cylons had demonstrated such ability to completely over-ride their defenses back on the colonies and destroyed them with nukes. She doubts it would work in contacting the fleet back home anyway.]
