[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard
Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!
[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.
It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.
Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.
On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!
Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?
You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival (
sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]
[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.
edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

Re: Day 270
Of course, he's already managed to get the string knotted up, but the fact he's half-wandering, half-attempting to try and get it unknotted again does mean he's walking slow enough that it makes it a bit easier to spot Inara. And, naturally, once he does, he has to go over and say hello.]
Hey, Inara, what're ye doing?
no subject
Oh, I'm trying to decide which color I like better, the red or the violet. What do you think?
[She looks back down to the tangled object in his hand.] Is that a puzzle of sorts?
no subject
[It would look bonny on her, true, but that's not the only reason for his choice. He flicks his eyes down briefly in the direction of his own very red kilt, then back up at her with a slightly wry smile on his face.]
Mind ye, if ye want an unbiased opinion, I may not be the the right person to ask. Why are ye looking for fabric, anyway?
no subject
Regardless whether it's a biased one or not, it's still a valued opinion. Bu, to answer your question, I'm picking fabrics for some dresses I'm having made. I don't want them all to look the same.
no subject
Oh, aye, I see. Why not get them both, then? That way ye could have one of each made.
[Still, he can't help but notice the sheer amount of bags around. Maybe the reason why she was trying to decide between the two had a more practical basis behind it.]
Unless you've only got the room in yon bags for just the one.
[With that, though, his attention's caught by the yo-yo again, mostly due to his moving his fingers the wrong way and causing the string to tighten around them. With a grimace he starts trying to wriggle it free.]
And to answer your question, this is something called a yo-yo. You're supposed to get it to roll up and down so it'll light up, but I've not had much luck with it so far.
WOW total HTML fail up there hahaha
Oh, there's always room in a bag for one or two more items. So I do believe that I shall get both of them.
[For a moment though, she's going to focus on the yo-yo he's just explained to her. Of course she's seen one, it's just been a while. It really seemed like something River would have enjoyed.
She grins and steps closer to him and reaches out, trying to help untangle his fingers.]
I can see that. Perhaps there's a trick to using it. They didn't show you how before you left the shop?
I see no HTML fail here. /kicks it under the rug >>
Aye, well...they did offer. But I told them I could manage on my own.
[He may be just a touch stubborn like that.]
I was thinking about giving it to the Doctor anyway, but then I thought maybe I could have a go at it first. And then I wound up like this.
<33
How did you manage to get so tangled up? Were you trying tricks? But, I think if we manage to free you, this is exactly the sort of thing the Doctor would enjoy.
<33
Ah...maybe. Look, I don't see what my doing tricks has to do with that, though.
[Which means yes, that's exactly how he wound up in this particular mess.]
That only takes care of one of him, though. I still need to find presents for the other two. And the one that grew out of his hand.
no subject
The other two? [She looks a little surprised.] I didn't realize there were... more. Well, before there was another one, but I thought he'd gone home.
no subject
Aye. There's...three now, I think. Four if ye count Theta.
[He reaches with his other hand to catch a loop that's threatening to tighten around the piece Inara's trying to work free, and manages to grab it before it tightens into a knot.]
None of them are my Doctor, though. They're all later on from him, at least as far as I can tell. Which one of him'd gone home, then? He wasn't one that was about my height with dark hair and blue eyes, was he?
no subject
[It was still a hard concept to grasp onto, them all being the same person and yet different at the same time. But she supposed that was just the way it was meant to be, not making much sense.
She smiles slightly, moving her fingers so he can pull at the string, freeing it before she manages to tighten it.]
Oh no, he had... Dark hair and brown eyes. He seemed partial to ties, while the one still here seems to enjoy bow-ties. I can't remember which one was the earlier version of him though.
no subject
[And having three and a half of him here isn't too bad, given that. He glances down at the string, trying to decide if he should try wiggling his fingers free now or not, but decides to give it a little bit longer and goes back to keeping still so she can continue to try and get the string undone a bit more.]
That sounds a bit like Theta, only he had pink hair. There were some brown bits in it, though, so I'm guessing the pink's not natural. I don't know if he's earlier than the Doctor ye know or not. He's not the only Doctor that likes bow-ties, though.
no subject
And with a few tugs and a few slips of the string through other knots, she had it loose enough so he could pull his fingers free without ripping them apart.]
Well, he didn't have pink hair. It was a little, uh, wilder thank the one that I know is still here. Kind of like this... [She lifts her hair above her head, waving her fingers a little.]
no subject
Och, I'll not be doing that again anytime soon. Thank ye, Inara. Here, I can get the rest of the knots out of that later on.
[And he offers out his opposite hand to take the yo-yo back from her, even as his eyes flick to the way she's holding her hair. He frowns a bit, then nods.]
I think that might be like Theta, but I'm given to understand there's a wee bit of difference between him and the Doctor. Although not one that makes much sense, if ye ask me.
no subject
You're very welcome. I... I have no idea what his name was. It could have very well been Theta. But... Uh, what makes him different from the Doctor?
no subject
Ah, well, I don't think so. I've not ever heard the Doctor call himself Theta. Other things, aye, but not that. So if he'd not used it...
[There's a brief shrug before he continues.]
Well, suppose it doesn't matter so much. What I can tell ye, though, is that Theta told me that he was the Doctor's hand at one point, and when it got cut off in a sword fight he just sort of...grew from it.
no subject
Though her smile fades a little, and she's not sure she's actually heard him correctly.]
He... Grew from a hand? Is that even pos-- Ah, never mind. I need to stop asking that question.
no subject
Look, I've no idea. But the Doctor's not human, so maybe it's possible somehow.
[Just don't ask him how. But all this talk of Theta and the Doctors is making him think of what he's mentioned about the TARDIS, and his eyes wind up drifting over and focusing on some fabric that's rather similar in colour.]
There's a lot of things that I've seen that I'd not thought possible, though. Hey, what do ye think of this colour here, Inara?
no subject
Yes, there are many things that don't seem as if they'd be possible and yet they are.
[She turns her attention to the fabric he mentions and she leans forward a little, studying it.]
I really do like it. You think it would make a good dress for me?
no subject
Aye, I do. The red would still look bonny as well, but it'd give ye more options for...whenever ye feel like wearing dresses, I suppose. Although, I might see about getting some of it myself if there's enough left over, if ye don't mind.
no subject
[She flashes him an amused smile before she picks up her bags and heads into the shop.
But truly, why would she mind? She has certain plans for the fabric, dresses. And even if he planned on having one made, it wouldn't be anything like the one she had in mind.
She pauses just inside and glances over her shoulder at him.]
Are you coming?
no subject
Well, I don't know how much you'd rightly need for a dress, to tell ye the truth. I'd not want to take too much and not leave ye with enough for it. Especially not when I'll only need a wee bit for some handkerchiefs. Maybe a neckerchief.
[When she picks up the bags, though, he quickly nods and follows after.]
Here, do ye need me to hang on to those for ye while ye get the fabric?
no subject
Actually, I do. Thank you, Jamie.
[She holds out one of her hands, letting him take those bags.]
I'm certain there will be more than enough fabric for the two of us.
no subject
Och, it's no problem. You're likely right, though. This place looks like it's got a fair bit of the stuff around. Where are ye off to after this, anyway?
