[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard
Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!
[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.
It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.
Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.
On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!
Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?
You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival (
sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]
[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.
edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

Scott!
[He waves him over.]
What are you doing? [Noticing the two sticks he has in his hands.] Is Allison with you?
no subject
I'm eating candyfloss, what's it look like I'm doing? [ He takes a bite out of the fluffy sweet. ] No, she's busy shopping. Tell me you don't like candyfloss because I could totally eat both of these.
no subject
[That makes him laugh a little, and Isaac reaches out to pull a tuft off of the other one.]
That's pretty cool of you.

[Isaac takes the stick with a bit of a laugh, turning back toward the hyena enclosure.]
You must really like zoos, huh? Working at the clinic and pet stores and all.
no subject
no subject
[That makes him laugh though, and Isaac takes a bite of his cotton candy.]
I'd love to see you try to bring a tiger on the caravan back to Asgard.
no subject
Can we check out the rhinos now? [ He uses his "please" eyes. ]
no subject
Alright, rhinos.
[And that excitement makes him laugh, despite his earlier annoyance. Isaac holds out the hand not currently holding the cotton candy, palm up, and his shadow creeps up his arm, ignoring the light as it reaches his hand and separates, becoming its own entity entirely.
The shadows shape and twist until it turns into something that sort of resembles a rhino. Isaac's never really looked at them much, so it's more like a small elephant with a horn instead of a trunk and slightly smaller ears: legs too long, face too short, and too round in the middle.
There's a reason he's at the zoo, okay? He needs references.]
How about that?
no subject
With a mouthful of candyfloss, Scott gawks at the shadow Isaac creates. It might not be perfect but it's still really cool to look at. ]
I'd give you an A for effort, probably a B for presentation. [ After grading Isaac's shadow, he starts walking and gestures for Isaac to keep up. ] Come on, I think the rhinos are this way.
no subject
[He laughs and it disappears with a flick of his wrist, before following Scott off to see the rhinos.]
So, favorite animal?
no subject
Probably sea otters. They hold hands with each other when they sleep so they don't drift away from each other.
[ Which reminds him of Allison, but so does everything.
He realizes how unmanly that answer sounded and looks mildly embarrassed. ] Don't tell anyone I said that.
/elbows her way in here
She spots Scott with Isaac and slows her pace. She doesn't want to interrupt them. Eventually, though, she can't slow any more without stopping so she gets over herself and just goes up to them.]
All I found were anteaters. Long tongues... no necks. [she turns to Scott and offers a small wave.] Hi.
8D
We were looking for giraffes... and wolves. But so far, neither of them have shown up, I guess.
no subject
They must be hiding somewhere. Maybe if you howl, they'll respond and we can follow their howls to where they are. This one time I howled, I sounded like a cat being strangled.
no subject
I don't think howling here will do anything... except make us look like we're howling at the zoo. [And she realizes how stupid that just sounded, SO, she's back to just taking the map back from Isaac and trying to find another symbol to investigate.]
They need an Earth to Utgard animal guide.
no subject
Howling? We're not even wolves anymore.
[Way to go, Scott. Though, Erica is right, that is a cute mental image, and he thinks about it for a second, which makes him grin even more.
At any rate, Isaac is going to lean over her shoulder to get a look at the map, before pointing to one of the pictures.]
That sort of looks like an otter, doesn't it? Let's head that way.
no subject
They have otters here? [ Scott gets a look at the map to make sure Isaac isn't just teasing him after what Scott told him (in confidence!), but the picture does look very otter-like. ] Cool. Let's go.
no subject
Erica's mostly distracted with her own thoughts anyway. They're mostly circling around the thought that she's hanging out with Scott and Isaac in public and it's not a joke. She's also having fun, which is good, because she figures if everything Scott says is true then they deserve fun.]
no subject
[Of course. He wouldn't put it past the Utgardians to have... fish dogs. Sigh.
At any rate, the rest of the day is a rather nice one. Isaac shares his cotton candy with Erica, the three of them make their rounds to the otters, the wolves, and even a few fish dogs. Despite the reason he came to the zoo, his powers- getting stronger, better, more able to hurt people if need be- are the last thing on his mind.
And he wonders, maybe, if this is sort of what being a normal teenager is like. Not that any of the three of them would know, but- it feels surprisingly good, not to worry about wars or werewolves or hunters or how much they're supposed to hate each other. It's nice.]
