[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard

Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.

It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.

Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.

On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!

Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?

You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival ([personal profile] sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.

edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

It's almost strange, isn't it? You'd think we'd run out of places and things to examine but it's almost as though our boundaries keep growing.

It was a risk, actually. I wasn't entirely sure it would work either but then he started following me around so I assumed he'd get better. She had a dog back in her own world. Best companion. So...I suppose I wanted her to have that again. Of course now her other dog's arrived in Asgard so we're sharing the apartment with both of them. [Which is kind of crowded. Two big dogs and two people in an apartment.]

I know! Isn't it great? It's great that we get to explore this place like this! I never really did much back home, so....

So you have two dogs now? They are much bigger than Pascal. But I'm sure they're fun to play with too.
wasthemaster: (I have a few awkward moments)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-05 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't imagine the tower allowed for much exploration. Or much reading about places to explore. ...actually your tower wasn't really helpful for much, was it?

They're fun when they aren't being obnoxious. Prior to living in the city I'd never had dogs. My father did once but I wasn't home to live with them.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-06 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not really. I had three books there. But....thinking back, I guess you're right. I mean, I had a lot of hobbies and I did learn a lot but outside I'm figuring there is still a lot I don't know and haven't seen.

[Which. She can't help but instinctively run a hand through her hair in its braid as she does whenever something a bit sad or nerve-wrecking comes up.]

Oh, so he got one after you started at school to study magic? But you must have been able to go home and see them sometime?
wasthemaster: (I suppose you caught on)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-07 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
...three total? [Well that explains that!] Then there is most certainly a lot left. Even the most well-read people have things to learn and see still. Like Granger for instance.

[He can't help but snicker a bit. Well. How to explain this...] You underestimate my father a bit, I think. Two of them that always stayed in his study. As they should have lest they disturb the peacock in the gardens.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-08 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, she told me she likes reading too! And it seems like with school there is a lot you need to learn...

A...peacock? [Yes, that did sufficiently distract her from the rest of what he said and the implications of it. That Draco and his father were perhaps distant.]

wasthemaster: (I never realized how big the world is)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-08 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Bonafide bookworm, that one. [He can't exactly disagree though.] We're constantly learning and reading at school, but sometimes she takes it over the top.

...you've never seen one, have you? Giant bird with multiple colors in its feathers...usually. Father's is albino, completely colorless.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-09 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Over the top? I think I'd love to read if I had access to that many books. I can't blame her.

You mean like a rainbow? It sounds beautiful! [And rather fun to paint, if the image in her mind is accurate at his description.]
wasthemaster: (I bet you think you're clever)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-11 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose it depends on what you're reading. Some books just aren't worth it.

Not quite a rainbow! Lots of blues and greens and tans, mostly. Those are just the males though. The females aren't nearly as colorful.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-12 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I've loved all the books I've read! [But then, Rapunzel does rather seem the type that finds it hard to 'hate' anything or anyone.]

Oh. What about the females, are they the same colours but not as bright?
wasthemaster: (I'm rather composed)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-16 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
What's been your favorite so far?

Not even the same colors at all. The neck's the same, but their tail feathers are tans and browns and some gray, I think.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-16 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well....I guess the one I've used the most would be the cooking one I had back in the tower. But my favourite has probably been the art books I've found in the library here! They've all been amazing and I've been trying to kind of copy them a little, learning new techniques from them!

Oh, really? Why are the males so bright then?
wasthemaster: (I never thought of it like that)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
From what I remember you're a fairly decent artist already. But I suppose one must continue to learn to keep from being repetitive.

...you know, I actually have no idea. I never thought to ask.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-17 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, I guess. I'm just learning there is still a lot I didn't know about art from all these books here! I more or less kind of just...taught myself, really. Mother wasn't very happy initially when she found me painting on the walls, but eventually she changed her mind and got me more paints.

No? I wonder if there might be a book we can find in the library to figure it out...
wasthemaster: (I'll consider it)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-19 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
It was your tower though, wasn't it? Why would she have been unhappy in the first place?

Asgard's library seems to be growing every day. I'm sure we could find something if we looked.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-19 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well...I guess she wasn't expecting it so it made her angry at first?

Really? We should go and have a look! [It's the little, seemingly trivial things at times that captivate Rapunzel and her curiosity, her desire to learn more about so many different things.]
wasthemaster: (I have a few awkward moments)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-20 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Your mother was...something. [He has a lot of negative feelings about Gothel don't mind him.]

What, right now?

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-20 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Something...yeah. [She isn't sure how to really talk about that. The Gothel situation was. Complicated.]

Well, not now. I mean, you know, later. I came here to have a look and help you out.
wasthemaster: (I have no idea what I'm doing)

[personal profile] wasthemaster 2013-06-20 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I like that you're not entirely easily distracted. We'll have a look there when we get back to the city then.

[personal profile] seethelanterns 2013-06-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I try? I mean, sometimes I can be sort of easily distracted, but not now. And I mean, we're probably nearly going to be heading back anyway.
