[OPEN] Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard

Who: ANYONE going on the trip to Utgard!
What: A supplies run with one bonus a la carte spy.
When: Days 269 - 271 ( May 23 - 28 )
Where: Utgard
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Early in the morning on Day 269, several wagons will be geared up and at the ready by the Gate of Fog. The first two are more obviously intended for supplies, while the drivers of the last few will welcome Travellers to find anywhere comfortable to sit. A handful of coloured Natives from various districts will be coming along to assist in the shopping, though they're mostly content to stick to themselves in their own wagon for the duration of the trip. They won't have much to say to anyone that tries for conversation beyond simple pleasantries and a general air of gratitude.

It's a half day's drive to get to the city of Utgard, leaving the Sun just barely on its way back down by the time the caravan comes to a halt. This gives plenty of time to gather the things on the shopping list the drivers have on them. Natives will direct the Travellers to the things that are needed, such as bandages, food rations and the typical things expected for war efforts - though every now and again, very quietly, the Natives will check up on people to casually suggest that they might like to pick up a nice coat or two. Perhaps some sturdy gloves here or there, and a few portable heaters and the likes. Not overtly, not a great number. Just enough to give the general idea that there might be use of some warmer gear before long. If asked about them, the Natives won't say anything, only that it's always good to be prepared.

Day 270 will be left entirely to the Travellers' discretion. As promised, the Natives will hand everyone that helped out the day before a small pouch of seven silver runes and seven copper runes ( approximately $70 USD ) to spend on whatever they like. Remember that Utgard is a metropolitan city with higher technology levels than that of Asgard. You could buy a computer or radio here that would transmit and receive signals, but only within the boundaries of Utgard. Once it is brought back into Asgard, they will no longer function beyond having shiny dials and buttons. Travellers are welcome to keep anything left over from their allowances after they're done with their shopping.

On the morning of Day 271, the Natives will give the Travellers just a little while longer to look around while they make sure everything is packed securely and accounted for in the wagons before the caravan sets off around 10AM. There's another half day's travel ahead, and they want to be out of the woods before dark, so do try to be on time or wait for the next wagon!

Things seem to go off without a hitch, though, and the caravan will be moving right on time. The only thing that might seem a bit strange is that there is one Native that seems more interactive than the others. He might smile directly at you or ask some seemingly harmless questions, like how long you've been in Asgard for and what kinds of things you like to do during your day. He might comment how it's great that you're doing so much for them, and isn't it wonderful that we're in a time of peace? How long do you think it will last?

You can feel free to be suspicious about this "Native"'s behaviour, but as per the RNG, it will be Percival ([personal profile] sleeveless) that catches the spy! When it happens, the caravan will come to a halt and one of Heimdall's Natives will welcome Percival and a few others to come sit and guard the spy in one of the emptier wagons where none of the actual Natives will be at all inclined to give anything away, even by mistake. The mods will try to handle a couple threads for him. He won't have much to say after being caught, though, half because there will likely be several threads for him that we will have to devote time to and have because spies are such sour things when they get caught. :( No harm is to come to the spy or anyone else until Percival has had a chance to put up an open post on the network to discuss what to do with the spy. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Utgard plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment, along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. Also, if you haven't already, please check out the poll regarding how to handle Thiazi's spy over here.

edit: The IC network post regarding the spy is up over here! Let us know if you have any questions! ]

How could you know? They killed most of our population already, with destroying the colonies and all the executions on New Caprica. For all we know, they'll end up finishing us off before we get to Earth and settle there as our new home.

Because you're humans. You're survivors. Plagues, wars, invasions, the Earth dying, you survive everything, and you'll survive that too. You're going to be around for the death of the Earth; trust me, that's never changed.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The death of the Earth? [Wait where did that come from? Did that mean...the hybrid had been right? She really was the 'harbinger of death' then? Leading the rest of humanity from the colonies of Kobol to Earth only to have that new home die somehow. It's a depressing thought, one Kara doesn't want to consider. It would mean in some ways it just confirmed that she was a frak up. She couldn't even help the old man get the fleet to Earth to safety. Her expression can't help but break a little, betraying her confliction and upset at hearing such news even as she tries to hide it from his stranger.]

Ah--

[ Backpedaling. ]

When are you from, again?

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how to put that. For all I know, we use different ways to tell the date and time.

[So it was hard to say, exactly. But it was clear their technology was fairly advanced, if they had ships capable of faster than light travel and made the cylons. They had nukes. Though Kara was not to realize that the events he was talking about would not occur for thousands of years in her future yet.]

[ He shakes his head. ]

Don't worry, I saw Earth die. Doesn't happen until the year five billion. I imagine whatever way you count still leaves that at a high number, but that's the Christian way, if you understand it. Five billion years A.D.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
['Christian' doesn't mean anything to Kara. But she understands it apparently relates to the measure of time for him, or Earth in general, given the context. Even if this might be far off into the future, she still can't help feeling uneasy about this news. She had thought she might be able to do something right for once, not frak it up, in trying to help lead the fleet to Earth. Regardless of whether the Earth dying might not immediately impact the crew and civilians she originally travels with, the news is still disheartening, as she wonders what then happens to the survivors, spread out across space and looking for a new home.]

Christian? I'm not sure...how far off that might be, but even so. It's still not exactly welcome news. Earth was supposed to be our new home, once we found it.

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-23 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And Earth was always supposed to end, as everything does. It's so like humans, to get caught up on something that's at least millions of years in the future.

[ He says it fondly. Really. ]

It will be your new home, for so many years the people you know and love will be long, long gone. By the time Earth is reaching its end, you'll be able to leave and find something else.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-23 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Gods, I hope you're right. After what that Hybrid said about me...the prophecy says we find it. We have to. [As for everyone she knows and loves dying, it would happen eventually. She just doesn't want it all to be at the hands of the cylons and everything they have worked towards all for nought.]
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-24 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Normally I'd say to take any prophecy with a grain of salt, but that sounds like a trustworthy one.

[ Because faith in humanity. He'll never lose it. ]

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
And what would you say if I told you the Hybrid told me I "will lead the human race to its end. She is the herald of the apocalypse. The harbinger of death. They must not follow her." Do you think part of that could be this death of Earth, what she meant?
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-25 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He frowns. ]

It would be really impressive if you managed to end the human race.

[ ...it's meant to be encouraging. Really. Sort of. ]
Edited 2013-06-25 13:06 (UTC)

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-26 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Impressive? I don't think so. Tragic, more like, would be the word I'd use.

[She is still not quite seeing that as encouraging, somehow. The idea of the end of humanity terrifies her, even if she has come to terms with the idea that she could die each time she goes out in her viper.]
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-26 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I mean it! Nothing brings humanity down, so it would be very impressive if one measly little human would manage to bring it down.

[ ...yes, that is a compliment. ]

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-26 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
Right. [She's. Not really sure how to take that, raising an eyebrow and considering it for a moment. She knows, realistically that she is only one human among the rest of the survivors. That she has already made a big difference with the humans survival. In a way, she had been bringing them and the cylons together since she brought back that raider.]

One can be all it takes to frak things up though. And I keep telling Lee I'm a big frak up.
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-26 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
One is also all it takes to fix things. I have a feeling you're not one to give up easily.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-26 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. I'm nothing if not stubborn. And most of the time I tend to get what I want.

[So she couldn't deny that. She's just trying to process this news, regardless of it happening millions of years later. The fact that once again humanity would end up in search of a new home. It's depressing, especially given there is nothing she can do about it. Kara's not used to merely accepting things and sitting back.]
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-26 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
There you are, then. Nothing to worry about!

[ FLAWLESS LOGIC. ]

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-27 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so. We've been through enough without worrying about the Earth dying on us.

[Even if it does still suck to think about their descendants having to deal with it. She hopes their search for a new home goes smoother than theirs at least, when the time does eventually come.]
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-06-27 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No reason for that, at all.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-06-28 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
No. There was no frakking reason for all of that. All those people...but it happened. At the least, I can hope that we make it to Earth. We deserve that much.
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-07-01 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
And you will. I'll keep saying that until you believe me.

[personal profile] wontbeforgotten 2013-07-01 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'll believe it when it happens, when I see the crew and civilians back on land again. For all you know, things happen differently for us back home in comparison. You could be talking about your Earth dying, not ours. Either I'll help lead the rest of us there or we'll die trying to find a new home.

[It's not that she doesn't want to believe him that they make it, more that she is trying not to get her hopes up after New Caprica falling around them with the cylon occupation there.]
comeonthensexy: (Default)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-07-01 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
I stick to saying you're humans, so you'll be just fine.
