Oh? [And now he's really amused. He likes this blushing version of the Doctor, flustered, so different than either of the one's he's known. At first glance, at least. His smirk grows a bit, and he finds himself entirely unable to resist the urge to tease the man further, giving him an almost wicked look.]

I certainly enjoyed it. If you're interested, I could offer a repeat performance. Or would that be a preview, instead?

[Oh hell. He's not usually so flustered, and is in fact usually one of the smoother Doctors, but it's been a very long time since he's come up against such full-on flirting. Well, except from River, but he got just as flustered then as well. He really should be getting used to this.]

Well, I mean, I'm flattered, but...I think I may take a raincheck on that one.

[Okay, slight difference: River never looked like she intended to follow through with her flirting. Oh, this is definitely different.]

Consider it an open invitation. [Jack grins, wide, and just lets his gaze settle on the other man. Looking him over once more.] And feel free to take me up on it at any time.

Ah, yes. I think I'll do that.

[Either when he knows the man better or when he's less shy about kissing virtual strangers. You know, like ya do.]

So, how are you enjoying Asgard so far?

It's quaint. [There's a raised eyebrow as he tilts his head.] Cute that we're supposed to just buy the explanation of gods. Seen a lot of things in my time, it's going to take more than what I've seen so far to convince me.

[And then the Doctor gets a more serious look, slightly. After all, younger face or not, the Doctor is someone he trusts.] what about you?

The war is real, I'm afraid. So is the greyness. You'll see them around, if you travel into the less used areas of the city.

A number of us have died in this war already, though as you can tell, they do have a way of bringing us back. It's the strangest experience to die and come back with the same face.

Oh, I believe that there's a war, just not that it's gods waging it.

[And then something sets in his face, although it might be hard to see if you don't know him well, at the end of that. 'Bring them back...']

So death isn't permanent.

Apparently not.

[It's very strange, even for a Time Lord who's used to death not being the end.]

I suppose it helps along their claim that they're gods, if I believed in gods. I admit they are extremely powerful beings, at least. They have a vested interest in keeping us around to fight their war.

[faceofbeau]

[He can't quite suppress a snort at that.] It doesn't take a god to get around death. [He knows that far too well, even not counting his own immortality. This time, the set to his lips as they thin into a frown of a line is far more visible.]

Death isn't something that should be played around with, whether it's for a war or not.

[And the hypocrisy of that statement coming from his own lips doesn't escape Jack, but he means it.]

[Eight tilts his head and gives him a look. Seriously, Jack?]

You do know you're talking to a Time Lord, right? We practically invented playing around with death.

[He gets an eyebrow in response.]

Maybe, but that doesn't make it right here and now.

[Eight's expression hardens.]

Frankly I was thankful for it after Rose bled out in front of me because my healing was too weak to save her.

[faceofbeau]

[Jack's lips purse in response. He doesn't want to ever imagine watching the people he cares about dies, even though he's done it, time and time again. But Rose... She's on the short list of people he would do anything, absolutely anything, to protect. To keep safe. And the fact that he's already been through the pain of thinking her dead once, lived through it... When he answers, after a long moment, his voice is the slightest bit rougher.]

Playing with death has consequences. [And yet, even as he says it, he knows... Rose is also one he would, selfishly, do anything to bring back, damn the consequences.]

Of course it does, but we don't exactly have a choice here.

[faceofbeau]

[His frown doesn't abate, his lips pressed to a firm line. But better to ask now and know.] What kind of consequences are known, here?

That I cannot say. I've only died once, myself, and there were no adverse effects, but I don't suppose there would be the first time.

Perhaps you could ask around for anyone who has died more than I have.

[There's a nod, a serious, thoughtful look. And then, a sharper look. Because the thought of the Doctor dying, even one he's only just met... He pushes it aside for now, but he'll be looking into it, as soon as he can.]

Good to know that much at least.

I wish I could tell you more. I suppose we should be thankful that I don't know because I haven't honestly seen that much death here. Especially not for this being a war zone. Besides my own death, I've only seen two.

I think it's fairly safe not to worry about that too much. At the very least, these "gods" do seem invested in keeping us as safe as they can while still being in a war.

[So not only has Rose died, but the Doctor has as well? His expression becomes even more grim at the thought, because he knows what happens when the Doctor dies. Although, he's not sure if it would happen here, and he has no intention of poking at such a possible wound, especially with a Doctor that doesn't truly know him. Instead, he navigates to the next subject at hand.]

This war. What kind of fighting is there, if any?

Sporadic at best, really. Normally, wars have constant fighting somewhere, but this seems to be a lot of waiting, punctuated by large battles.

[It's the strangest war he's ever been in, that's for sure.]

Sometimes, Thiazi decides to go the underhanded route. A little while ago, we had a spy who then escaped and poisoned the water supply. And then was the corruption...making us attack our own.

Who knows what will happen next.
