EVENT LOG: LOOK! A DISTRACTION!

Who: EVERYONE
What: Look! A Distraction! Festival log part one. The overflow log can be found here and part two of the event can be found here.
When: Days 338-341 (Oct. 8-15)
Where: The castle courtyard.
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ All barriers are coming down for this five-day event: both the ones between the gods and their Travelers and between the city and its center. The castle courtyard is open to any and all for the next five days. NPC booths with games, snacks, and trinkets fill the space both along and around the entrance with plenty of room to spare for anything the Travelers might want to set up for themselves. Music and food fill the air at a constant, with firepits and decorative torches burning at night to light up the courtyard in an earthy glow and keep everyone warm. There will be plenty of food and entertainment, and the party will last throughout the night each night.

The theme of the festivities will change with every day:
Day 338 (Oct. 8/9)
It's time for a costume party! Travelers will be encouraged by the natives and gods alike to wear costumes both silly and serious! Anyone needing assistance simply need to say the word, and they will be descended upon by enthusiastic natives ready to help and desperate to put the tragedy of Thiazi's attack behind them.

Day 339 (Oct. 10/11)
Familiar scents will waft in the air with the theme of the second day: Home away from Home! The visiting god Honir has made a push to organize food and music straight from the Travelers' worlds, and it will all seem absolutely and utterly authentic. The natives will be cooking and playing music throughout the festival, and will be encouraging Travelers to to teach others about their own world/time's clothing and culture.

Day 340 (Oct. 12/13)
This day is going to follow something of a Samhain celebration. Merlin, with the permission and help from the gods, planted the seed of an oak tree in the centre of the courtyard. By this day, it will have grown as large as though it's been there for a hundred years. Travellers will be welcomed to tie ribbons or letters to the tree for their departed loved ones and friends, whether they've passed on or simply left the city, in remembrance and a final farewell.

However, being far too curious about to whom they're writing, Honir will be going through all of the ribbons and letters when no one's looking. Moved by their losses, he'll be bugging Mimir into helping him perform a spell that will bring a sort of comfort to everyone. Characters can receive up to a maximum of three photographs of themselves with whomever their ribbon is for, regardless of whether or not they ever took a picture with that person or even had the technology to do so. All of these photographs will be candid shots of happy memories that will be waiting for them on the Travelers' pillows.

(We aren't doing approvals for these so please, limit yourselves to only three photographs!)

Day 341 (Oct. 14/15)
This day will introduce a festival game with the gods! As you go around to the various booths and attractions throughout the festival, NPCs will be handing out small treats to anyone they see wearing the colors of their patron god - whether you wore the colour intentionally or not!

The gods themselves will also be hosting another game of sorts: each of Asgard's patrons and allies will have a riddle or trivia question for any Travelers that approach them. Answer these correctly and they will tie a token of their favor (a ribbon in their colour or crest) around your upper arm. These ribbons can be cashed in for prizes at any time during the rest of the festival! (More details can be found under Day 341 HERE.)
The log for the fifth day masquerade can be found here!

The event guide for various events throughout the festival can be found here. Please include your location and the IC day (ex. Day 338 - this can be found in the schedule) in your top-level comment or your subject line when starting a thread! If you want to request a certain god, feel free to ping them and we will do what we can. Otherwise, have fun, and as always - let us know if there's anything you need! ]

Um, yeah, actually I can though that isn't their primary purpose.
in_loveless_memory: (Screw You)

[personal profile] in_loveless_memory 2013-11-04 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
You've asked and I already told you it's personal. If I wanted to tell you the first time, I would have. I'm not about to tell you a second time because you phrased the question differently. [He suddenly snapped.]
averagemedium: (try to be good to my people)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
--uh. Yes? I mean, it's not feeling up!

[Yeah, that's more than a little defensive. There is absolutely nothing untoward going on here, just messing with feathers.]

One, you're way too young, two, still not into that, and three, I'm taken. I'm just fixing your feathers, okay? [Which comes with a pointed smoothing of one more of them into place. See, that's all, Davesprite. No weird stuff.]

But to answer your other question, no, she didn't, just a lot of stuff about being related to people in strange ways, which I guess includes younger versions of grandparents?
bonnypiperlad: (please?)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2013-11-04 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, I would, if ye don't mind telling it again.

[He hesitates for a split-second, then tilts his head to one side and gives her a rather earnest sort of look.]

Please?
feathery: art@yshaarj (are you for real)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to pretend I understand how romance works for humans in every dimension. I heard enough about troll romance from Jade to last a lifetime and everyone knows they're crazy fuckers.

[His feathers puff up and look hopelessly fluffy in his indignation, because jesus christ, Ryan, he is trying to make this less awkward. He's half ready to throw up his hands and let the crow decide, yes, neck scratches would be awesome right now. How awkward would that be, huh?

God, what if he just crawled into a shitty pile of swords and rotted there a while. No, that sounds a little too much like Henry. Who Ryan is dating. Augh, fuck.

He crosses his arms, trying to keep his pride intact.]

That's legit, though, yeah. You get paradox slime by trying to appearify something quantum locked in time; otherwise, you end up with the actual object. So John tried to appearify our ectoparents, got their ghost goo because their current selves had shit to do, and the rest of us were test tube slimed from their DNA.
averagemedium: (no break no relief)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh my god. Oh my god, there is no way he's about to say what 'ghost goo' combined with test tube sliming makes that sound like, but he is sure as fuck thinking it.

Clearly the solution is to just carry on, because holy hell those wings can get even fluffier and it's kind of adorable, and also that did not sound like a request to stop.]

I'm assuming 'appearify' is exactly as self-explanatory as it sounds, here-- is this quantum time-traveling thing common where you come from, or just something you guys are used to? Because this is the kind of thing that doesn't happen in my world, I mean, people theorize about it but I'm pretty sure about one thousand physicists would have a collective heart attack if they were exposed to yours.
feathery: art@feastings (looking off yonder)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Ryan, you perv.

Meanwhile, Davesprite's brain has semi-descended into the white noise of keyboard smashing. Nope, he refuses to give in to his birdy instincts. Nope, not happening.]

I time traveled. It was kind of my thing. Before I fixed the timeline and handed shit over to real Dave.

[He is kind of distracted by this war with his crow half.]
averagemedium: (Default)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
[If he weren't kind of used to shorter answers from Davesprite, that might strike him as off-- but look, he's pretty distracted too. He's fixed most of the feathers that looked like they were a bit off and right now he's moving on to just kind of petting one wing, partly just so he doesn't start fidgeting again.]

--that's kind of awesome, actually. Is it as neat as it sounds like? Because I always kind of wondered if it was actually that cool, or just a whole lot of 'oh, hello past, can't do shit here'.
timaeus_testified: (Sea side.)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-11-04 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's better to ask what don't I have recorded of the sea.

[The ocean was a constant background sound for his life. Whether he lay on the floor of his room or was up on the roof practicing combat, it was always there.

Dirk leans over his mixing equipment and kills all the noise entirely. He reaches over and turns a dial on the left side before hitting a button close to the center. The waves crash and in the distance there's the rumble of thunder. It slowly grows louder with each successive sound of the water slapping against steel support beams.

To anyone with experience, it might sound like Dirk recorded it on a pier instead of holding onto steel beams and waiting for the weather to crash over his home.

The storm breaks over head and he shuts his eyes, remembering the way the wind howled as if it were a beast. It had slapped him hard against the metal and he'd nearly fallen into the ocean. The rain had soaked him and the thunder nearly drowned out all sense of thought. Nearly.

He never stops thinking.]
feathery: art@lexxercise (kids; whoops bleeding again)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
[The petting doesn't help; if anything it just has him thinking, dude, you should totally just properly scratch my neck instead

Calling time travel neat is momentarily enough to kill the impulse and, behind his shades, Davesprite's eyes flick to the side.]

Nah, it's kind of dumb, actually. You can change the past and future or try all you want, but every choice you or anyone else makes could potentially result in a doomed timeline. So you've always gotta just. Intuitively hope everything that happens is the right thing, so you don't go dragging your friends into a dead-end timeline with you.

[Or, in his case, hope no aliens decide to troll your best friend to his death and leave you to pick up the pieces.

...Aaand with his guard down, there he goes, butting into Ryan with his head before he fucking hops back in horror with an embarrassing, not-completely-human sound. The latter half sounds like the end of a particularly chagrined fuck.]
bonnypiperlad: (hrmph)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2013-11-04 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
[His lips press together for a moment, and he folds his arms over his chest.]

Oh, I see. So ye thought ye were protecting me from it, then? Is that it? Aye, and it's a nice thought. But this place makes it very hard to do that sort of thing, Doctor. It's not as though I'd not seen bits of my future already here, ye know.
averagemedium: (try to be good to my people)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Ryan is trying so, so hard not to laugh at that sound-- but there is still just a hint of it in his tone when he next speaks. It's mostly concerned-sounding, at least? Concerned and maybe more than a bit confused, one hand still sort of just hovering in midair where it had been a few seconds ago.]

--uh, are you okay? I didn't... that wasn't a really sensitive spot or something, was it?
feathery: art@feastings (shit fuck goddamn oh no)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
[This is so embarrassing, holy fuck.]

No! Oh my god. No. Just. Forget that ever happened. It didn't happen. That was totally some weird festival trick that didn't involve me at all. That was. Some other bird Dave.

[Smooth. So smooth. Which is why he has both hands in the air like he's ready to receive a pass from the NFL's star quarterback.

Fuck his life.]
averagemedium: (rain don't change the sun)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
I-- okay, if you insist? But look, it's nothing to be embarrassed about, it's not like I really have room to judge anybody on anything, here. Swear I'm not going to breathe a word of it.

[His own hands are held up a bit defensively, in what's supposed to be a non-threatening gesture. Chill out, man, that was actually kind of cute-- but he sort of has the feeling that saying it was would not go over spectacularly well right now.[
madcuriosity: (Innocent smile)

[personal profile] madcuriosity 2013-11-04 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen ghosts. [She said, remembering the girl... the one that...] I don't think I've ever seen a ghost look like a sheet. Ah, but I like this better. I can see your face and I quite like your face.
feathery: art@spkolala (up away to the sun)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Davesprite's flailing is definitely of the more childish variety. He is still a sixteen-year-old kid, feathery pokerface or not. And that was so not cool. It was the opposite of cool.

He just kind of stares at Ryan, hands still up and face kind of red. Good thing he can't see that, though he can guess well enough from the way his face feels.]

Ok. Yeah, good. I mean, I wouldn't know...anything about that...

[He trails off kind of uselessly as he starts to feel embarrassed about his reaction, too. In his dream, Davesprite is the star, it's him.]
averagemedium: (Default)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, don't worry about it. Promise you we're good, don't ruffle those feathers back up when I just got through with them, yeah?

[And he's just going to sort of reach over and ruffle Davesprite's hair with a small grin, scooting back over a bit if necessary. Just force through the awkward, that is obviously the answer.]

[ kaworu shakes his head ] No, I wasn't. These are core stabilizers and body stabilizers; they reassure my human body can withstand my soul inside of it.

I could do it by myself, but I decided to let them do what they wanted. [ basically, he let the laboratory scientists experiment on his body all they wanted. The pills ended up being a way to amuse them. ]

They gave me this instead of food. That's why I don't have food from my world.
comeonthensexy: (→215)

[personal profile] comeonthensexy 2013-11-04 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't think I've ever been cold in them.

[ There's another of those moments, and then he shrugs his coat off his shoulders, undoes his bowtie and hands them to Ril. With a little bit of effort, he manages to get the robes off the hanger and sort out the different pieces, before he starts pulling them on. The first goes over his head. ]
feathery: art@askturntechsprite (this is your commentary riff)

[personal profile] feathery 2013-11-04 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
[For a second, Davesprite locks up, because no one has done that since his bro died. Not even Dirk. But he squashes it down and nods a little clumsily, rubbing the back of his neck.]

It's just a bird thing.

[The mortification is still almost tangible in his voice.]
averagemedium: (Default)

[personal profile] averagemedium 2013-11-04 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Which isn't anything to be too embarrassed about. Stands to reason that it'd sort of go with the wings, yeah?

[He starts to hook his thumbs into the pockets of his jeans before he remembers he doesn't have those pockets right now-- okay, costumes are annoying sometimes. But he can deal. He's got an awesome cape to toy with the edges of instead.]

It's nothing I'm going to be all weird about.
madcuriosity: (Is it time for a story?)

[personal profile] madcuriosity 2013-11-04 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's decided then, a family dinner. The four of us. Jack, you, me, and Jamie. I shall cook, you can somehow trick Jack into setting the table.

Mm. Little bits of home. [She neatly folds the bowtie and tucks into the coat pocket before very carefully folding his jacket across her arm.] Bit of a process, then.

[A little grumble of discontent before Fenrir shoos him off with a flick of his fingers.]

Be on your way.
asgardsclaws: (Default)

[personal profile] asgardsclaws 2013-11-04 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
And here you are.

[Fenrir hands him a plate with samples on it.

Hey. They taste suspiciously like pork.]
