EVENT MINGLE: AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

DAY 555 (Dec 14-15)

As the last of the black ice is cleared from the city - and the last of its natives wake from their gray slumber - a cautious winter celebration begins. The city itself opens its doors wide to the allied forces still camped outside it and the natives invite the Travelers to observe the beginning of Winter and the approach of the end of the Asgardian year with them.

The day begins with what seems like a typical party in the streets. There is food, music, and an attitude of general warmth and hope from the Natives that hasn't been quite so present in a long time. It will be interrupted in the early afternoon by a snowball fight that starts in one sector of the city and quickly snowballs out of control. For a few hours, the city itself will become a veritable warzone, with most of the city's native children and adults alike getting in on the fight! Watch your back and take no prisoners. DAY 556 (Dec 16-17)

Day 556 sees a brief return to old - and maybe familiar - tricks. The festivities continue on outside, but some Travelers throughout the course of the day may find themselves influenced by magical impulse… all in the name of good holiday fun, of course.

The effects of these miniature curses will last anywhere between ten minutes and an hour and happen spontaneously, and most of them are echoes of similar curses that have been laid upon the city before. Travelers may find themselves:

• Unable to lie or actively compelled to blurt truths, consequences be damned
• Only able to communicate in poetry or song
• Given a nagging urge to (sincerely!) compliment anyone they come across
• Compelled to just hold hands with whoever they're near
• Caught under sprigs of magic mistletoe that seem to appear at arbitrary times at equally arbitrary places (though they can either be kissed or just wait a few minutes for it to disappear again)

Your character can be affected by as many and as often as you'd like, but none of them are mandatory. To reward the Travelers for putting up with that silliness one final time, they will find in their rooms that night a basket of chocolate, a horrendously ugly Christmas sweater, and one item from home. The item can be anything that fits within the game's technological and magical rules! If you'd like your character to receive something, please just drop a comment HERE to get it approved.

DAY 557 (Dec 18-19)

Day 557 marks the final day of celebration. That evening, twinkling, magical fairy lights will cover the edges of buildings and the branches of trees all over the city. There are light displays of amazing proportion all over the city, and the Welcome Halls are done up in entirely their signature color. the Travelers will be invited into the castle again for a ball much like the one last year. Thor will announce the end of curfew and tell everyone to party hard, because the hunt for both Surt and a way to heal the World Tree will begin after this.

The party will last until midnight, when everyone will be shuffled out into the courtyard for a brilliant fireworks display. It represents both the victory over Thiazi and the hope that the celebration of this coming new year will not be the last.

[He groans, hanging his head for a moment.]

[Not that he even wanted to say that in the first place.]

Wait, hold up--

Don't tell me this is somethin' you normally think up-?!

[Ayumu have you spent all this time thinking of him as a puppy because if so we need to have Words.]

Well you are kind o.... [You know what.

He's just going to slap the hand still holding what's left of the kabob over his mouth. Awkward with fruit slices pressed against his cheek, but it works well enough.]

Where did that even come from-?!

[Whatever Ayumu says is thankfully muffled, much to his luck. Hizumi will get no answer unless he finds a way to get Ayumu's hand away.]

[Hizumi will just

totally invade Ayumu's personal space as he tries to pull that arm away.]

Sorry, couldn't quite hear you.

[Excuse you stop hanging all over him what are you doing.

He tries to pull himself back away from Hizumi on reflex, forgetting for a moment that they're kind of attached. Unfortunately for Hizumi, the recent snowfall has made the ground just slightly more perilous for such actions.

Sorry bro, he's tripping and falling backwards and you'll have to think fast if you don't want to meet an icy, damp faceful of snow.]

[In hindsight this may have been a bad idea.

With their hands stuck together as they are, he doesn't have the mobility nor the time to maneuver in such a way to soften the fall. So, as Ayumu tumbles, so does he, hitting the ground hard enough to knock the breath from his lungs momentarily.]

...Ow.

[It's going to take him a bit before he actually realizes that they appear to have fallen under a sprig of mistletoe. That certainly can't be ominous.]

[melodyoflogic]

[Ayumu hisses as he impacts with the ground none too gently, and that sound spikes an octave when Hizumi lands with him. He's knocked his head a bit against snowcovered stone, and it takes him a few moments to shake the pain off and open his eyes.]

What was that for?

[He stares upwards at the leaves of the tree above, going to push himself up with a groan before pausing as he realizes his movement is somewhat restricted.

And then he spots the sprig up above.]

....Hizumi.

[bondsofsuffering]

What.

[It's flatly said as he brings his free hand to the back of his head, eyes closed in a wince. He didn't hit it as hard as Ayumu, but it still doesn't feel too great.

And given that he's more than okay with laying around in the snow apparently, he hasn't even noticed the restrictions on their movements yet.]

[Ayumu just points up, his lips thinning a little as the snowmelt starts to seep through the back of his coat in an uncomfortable manner. This town couldn't cut them a break, could it...?]

Look up.

[Since it's basically a matter of opening his eyes, he cracks them open to see--

...Oh.]

That's some inconvenient placement.

[He could be discussing the weather with that tone, clearly not too bothered. After all, it's just a little mistletoe; it's not like they have to kiss under it. Holding hands and getting a rise out of Ayumu with the compliments was all good fun, but kissing is a bit much.

Propping himself up on his elbows, he's about to get up with the full intention of getting up and ignoring it when he comes to the abrupt realization that, for whatever reason...

...He doesn't actually seem to be able to do that.]

[And knowing this place, he'd bet that sprig hanging innocently up there was the cause. he'd like to hope it would let them go on it's own, but... Since when were they that lucky?

He actually looks a little uncomfortable as he asks his next question. What he wouldn't give for fire magic right now.]

[They really need a friend in Odin, clearly.

He stares at the mistletoe for a few moments in irate annoyance before speaking.]

Well... either we can keep layin' here and hope someone comes by who can get rid of it, or...

Or humor it, right?

Was really not how he wanted his first kiss to go.]

It's either that, or catch a cold from laying in the snow all day.

Basically.

[He's already trying not to shiver. Snow is cold, who'd have thought. Laying back for now, he turns his head to look at Ayumu.]

It's up to you. [He's not about to force Ayumu into a kiss without warning, even with their situation being what it is.]

I can't say I really like how this is happening, but it's alright. Really. [That... was blunter than what he'd meant to say, and he flushes slightly.

Still, honest as it was, it was enough, and between Hizumi's shivers and his own freezing backside, it was plain enough they needed to get up soon.]

We can't just stay down here all day, after all.

[He's a little surprised to hear that, honestly. But soon enough he's chuckling.]

Flustered again.

[It's still cute. But before anything else can come out, he gives Ayumu's hand a short squeeze and leans close, tilting his head to kiss the other teen.]

[Ayumu's about to snap a reply back about that comment, at least, before Hizumi squeezes his hand and leans in.

Hopefully Hizumi isn't expecting overwhelming confidence, because Ayumu tenses a little at the first brush of lips, unsure of what to do exactly. Sure, he's thought about kissing before, but it's not like he'd ever had a chance to actually do anything.

Still, that comment stung his pride, so he has to make some effort to prove otherwise. Tentatively, he kisses back, moving his lips against Hizumi's in a somewhat awkward fashion.]

[Hizumi didn't really expect Ayumu to kiss back, and he actually stops for a half second.

Well, well, well. If Ayumu's trying this hard, it's only right that he does the same. His free hand circles lightly around Ayumu's back, and the hand that remains stuck to Ayumu's tightens in grip unconsciously as he presses into the kiss.

He wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Ayumu broke it off right then and there, and he's still free to do so. But Hizumi was never really one to do things by halves, even if he's not terribly experienced at this either.]

[Oh. That.... huh. He still seems a little tense, and he is-- the closeness is strange and more than a little awkward, but on the flip side the kiss actually didn't feel half bad, and he's emboldened by it as well as having a point to prove.

He presses into the kiss as well, the hand not attached to Hizumi's sneaking up to rest on the back of his neck, fingers sliding just below the hairline. Perhaps not as bold as Hizumi, but he's determined not to shrink away so easily even if he is feeling like a fish out of water.]

[The mistletoe is long gone by now, but Hizumi is neither at an angle to appreciate that fact, nor at all focused on the original reason for the kiss. At this point, it's like some kind of challenge. A kissing challenge. The ultimate kissing challenge.

--And, honestly speaking, it's actually kind of a nice feeling, which is a little odd in of itself considering it's Ayumu but magic mistletoe is a cruel master apparently.

With media as his only real guide, he opens his mouth just enough to tug softly at Ayumu's lower lip. That's the kind of thing passionate couples do, right? Totally. What experience he lacks, he makes up for with complete confidence. He's got this.]

[For Ayumu it's a matter of pride-- if he backs down now, he'll only get teased more, and it was starting to grate how easily Hizumi could do that sometimes.

On his part his eyes have long since squeezed shut, so he doesn't even notice the mistletoe's disappeared, but he certainly notices the tug on his lip and very nearly falters. How's he supposed to respond to that? Of course he's seen kissing on TV, too, but.....

His fingers grip into Hizumi's hair a little tighter as he continues the kiss, a small, unconscious give away of hesitation.]
