END OF ARC 2: PART TWO OF THREE

Who: ANYONE going on the infiltration into Thrymheim!
What: The arrival and struggle to infiltrate Thiazi’s castle.
When: Day 280 ( June 14 - 15 )
Where: Asgard, Thrymheim, and the road inbetween.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ On Day 280, the caravan will come to a stop around daybreak. By this time, the landscape is mountainous and covered with snow, the air thick with chill and frost nipping at any skin unfortunate enough to be exposed. From here, we move on foot, but not everyone can come along. If this mission is to be successful, it needs to be quick and precise, in and out in a matter of minutes with as minimal alert as possible. Travellers should break into their teams here, with a healthy amount staying behind to protect the wagons and be prepared to recover the first team. The others will take their weapons and any necessary supplies to hike their way into the city of Thrymheim.

They will see the city before they reach it, however. The mountains will reach a crescent with Thrymheim standing proud in the belly of tall peaks - all a clean, crystalline white. The "heart of ice" is meant literally, as the city is a solid frozen fortress. Surrounding it is a wall not unlike Asgard's, save for the obvious frost surrounding it, and it will not be easy to slip in through the only open gate directed towards Muspellheim ( and Asgard by proxy ). There will be guards to fight off here, though not a terrible amount, as typically their Queen would have the foresight to catch anyone before they get this far. But Thiazi has yet to sound the alarms, and the recovery team will be able to move into the city without too much trouble.

Inside the City
Getting to the castle, however, is a different story, as every life encountered along the way is that of the enemy. There will be humanoid creatures as heavily bundled as the Travellers that might scarcely double-take at the new arrivals, though the ice faeries flitting around the sky are more curious and the lesser frost giants roaming around will be harder to fool. Travellers that touch any of the solid-ice buildings or ice-creatures with bare skin will receive mild frostbite that worsens with continued contact but can be healed with relative ease. Proceed with caution, but don't stay too close to the walls and try not to wander out in the open. The more attention gained, the more conflict you will meet, so move discreetly and take care of any problems as quickly as possible.

By the time the castle is within reach, though, the forces will be too heavy to continue on en masse. The strike team will want to break off and make a dash for the entrance, leaving the defence to ease their path and fight back any oncoming assailants. Inside the castle, things are a chaotic rumble that will make it easy to knock the way through the smaller creatures and head towards the trophy room where Freyr's soul is being kept locked up on a pedestal. The prize of war - but this, too, is made of ice and can be shattered with enough heat and blunt force. The instance the lock is broken, Thiazi's scream of rage will ring throughout the castle, and then it's a mad dash back to the gate and the caravan.

Outside the City
The Reinforcements that came on the hike should stand sentry at the gate, as more of Thiazi’s men will be running out of the city in search of the caravan once they’re alerted to the Travellers’ presence. Their job will be to keep the path relatively clear for an easy withdrawal once Freyr’s been retrieved, though this task will be made increasingly difficult as the battle grows within the city. More of Thiazi’s minions will start heading this way, and before long, there’ll be enough heat for several to break through the line of defence in search of the caravan.

It’s up to those still with the wagons to defend their only means of returning to Asgard from here. The attacks will not be terribly coordinated, as the Frost Giants were thankfully taken wholly by surprise and are acting on instinct rather than orders. They’ll come at the Travellers haphazardly and recklessly, more arrogance and anger than direction and drive. One of the wagons may be set alight, the horses cut free by their Native owners to run back to Asgard in warning. Reinforcements will have to try to put out the fire and salvage whatever supplies they need while also making room for the others in the remaining wagons.

Once everyone is together again, forget about defeating the army - it's time to move. Snow will start falling heavily and as the Sun starts setting, the ice only gets colder and harder to navigate. Enemies will follow behind, but so long as you stay on your toes and keep a prayer on your breath, you'll make it back to the caravan just in time for them to take off the second your feet leave the ground. Thiazi's army will follow, some on foot that can be knocked back easily enough while others return to the city to catch their own rides. For now, though, there's time for the Healers to tend to the wounded and to haul ass back home. In sharp contrast to the trip here, things in the caravan will be some measure of hectic as all limbs are accounted for and the package is secured in an enchanted chest entrusted to the Strike Team for safe delivery. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is part two of three for the Save Our Souls plot! A couple of reminders for this log: characters that die in the city will be revived in Asgard on Day 284 ( June 22 - 23 ). They will not be able to return to Thrymheim following their deaths; they will wake up in the castle as per the standard resurrection detailed here. Also, House Powers will be functional on this day alone as the gods concentrate most of their energy in giving the Travellers a boost in this battle. Please put the day/location in the title of your comment along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. The first log can be found here and the third and final log can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]
