EVENT LOG: LOOK! A DISTRACTION!

What: Look! A Distraction! Festival log part one. The overflow log can be found here and part two of the event can be found here.
When: Days 338-341 (Oct. 8-15)
Where: The castle courtyard.
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ All barriers are coming down for this five-day event: both the ones between the gods and their Travelers and between the city and its center. The castle courtyard is open to any and all for the next five days. NPC booths with games, snacks, and trinkets fill the space both along and around the entrance with plenty of room to spare for anything the Travelers might want to set up for themselves. Music and food fill the air at a constant, with firepits and decorative torches burning at night to light up the courtyard in an earthy glow and keep everyone warm. There will be plenty of food and entertainment, and the party will last throughout the night each night.

The theme of the festivities will change with every day:

Day 338 (Oct. 8/9)
It's time for a costume party! Travelers will be encouraged by the natives and gods alike to wear costumes both silly and serious! Anyone needing assistance simply need to say the word, and they will be descended upon by enthusiastic natives ready to help and desperate to put the tragedy of Thiazi's attack behind them.

Day 339 (Oct. 10/11)
Familiar scents will waft in the air with the theme of the second day: Home away from Home! The visiting god Honir has made a push to organize food and music straight from the Travelers' worlds, and it will all seem absolutely and utterly authentic. The natives will be cooking and playing music throughout the festival, and will be encouraging Travelers to to teach others about their own world/time's clothing and culture.

Day 340 (Oct. 12/13)
This day is going to follow something of a Samhain celebration. Merlin, with the permission and help from the gods, planted the seed of an oak tree in the centre of the courtyard. By this day, it will have grown as large as though it's been there for a hundred years. Travellers will be welcomed to tie ribbons or letters to the tree for their departed loved ones and friends, whether they've passed on or simply left the city, in remembrance and a final farewell.

However, being far too curious about to whom they're writing, Honir will be going through all of the ribbons and letters when no one's looking. Moved by their losses, he'll be bugging Mimir into helping him perform a spell that will bring a sort of comfort to everyone. Characters can receive up to a maximum of three photographs of themselves with whomever their ribbon is for, regardless of whether or not they ever took a picture with that person or even had the technology to do so. All of these photographs will be candid shots of happy memories that will be waiting for them on the Travelers' pillows.

(We aren't doing approvals for these so please, limit yourselves to only three photographs!)

Day 341 (Oct. 14/15)
This day will introduce a festival game with the gods! As you go around to the various booths and attractions throughout the festival, NPCs will be handing out small treats to anyone they see wearing the colors of their patron god - whether you wore the colour intentionally or not!

The gods themselves will also be hosting another game of sorts: each of Asgard's patrons and allies will have a riddle or trivia question for any Travelers that approach them. Answer these correctly and they will tie a token of their favor (a ribbon in their colour or crest) around your upper arm. These ribbons can be cashed in for prizes at any time during the rest of the festival! (More details can be found under Day 341 HERE.)

Freyr's got the most sympathy for us, bigtime. Sigyn can be reasoned with. Baldr's an asshole, but the kind I can work with. Freya'll level with you, at least, if everyone else is doing the stupid vague thing. Haven't got a read on Loki, but he runs the bracelets, and they're all that keeps us from turning grey and mindless. Not a good choice for someone to fuck with. Thor's useless. Odin's got the info, but he's the one who'll waste your time being vague. Hel's got crazy cannibal brothers to look out for if you target her, and I don't know shit about Heimdall.

[It's all said in nearly one breath.]

That's what I've got on the gods. Anything else?

The lack of - mutations. Suppression, however you want to call it.

Depends on what you believe. There's a theory for every person who's lost something. The gods say that the energy here - the magic in the air, some crap like that - isn't compatible with any other kind of power. Not even something natural, like a mutation.

[He frowns.]

I saw what happened to someone who "got theirs back." Either exploding heads or melting organs. Not pretty.

[Then, just as quickly, his eyebrows go up in a saucy expression. You believe it?]

[he doesn't reply, because he's expecting him to elaborate on that. none of it makes sense to him.]

[Well?]

... that's the best I can tell you, man. The gods say we'll fall apart in a big way if we exist here as what we are in our own world, and they handed out a few examples awhile back. That's the story.

I say it's bullshit, and they just wanna control anything superhuman that happens around here because they know how easy a rebellion'd be if we all had our real abilities. Weakens them for the war, sure, but it keeps us here.

So we're utterly powerless here, then? With no method of gaining what mutations we had?

Like I said, it depends what you believe. The gods could've rigged the whole show just to scare people off. Back them into enough of a corner and we'll find out what's true, either way.

[he looks at him for a long, long time, and finally he says,] No, you're not afraid of me. Angry, yes. Desperate, maybe. But not afraid.

Which means - there's something else you're not telling me.

[Pyro just looks back, then stares in confusion.]

Okay, you lost me. Weren't we past the whole fighting thing and onto getting out of here?

[he presses his lips in a thin line; he'll do that kind of interrogation later.] How often do people die here? What attempts have been made to get out?

Depends on how reckless they are, or how bad the attack is. The locals die for good, but we've got a reset button thanks to the gods. As long as they've got a hold on us, we'll keep coming back.

[Chew on that for awhile, because it's damn creepy, but also rather freeing. Especially when coupled with his level of regeneration.]

And how do we even start looking for a way out? My one line on it is a cranky nutjob who can barely stand me, and everything else - it's a different dimension. Even the people who actually do hop between dimensions as a job can't figure it out. It all comes back to the gods.

Gods can be killed. Every mythology has its own end, even Asgard; it's only a matter of picking the right pieces to go with.

[sigh. this would've been much easier if charles just took his side back in cuba already.] I rather doubt it's as easy as picking a god. [which means - ] Are you on my side? Can I trust you on that? No - don't open your mouth to complain already, Pyro, hear me out first. Regardless of what happened to you and .... the Magneto you know, I know nothing of that. Do you understand? I don't know you, your friends, or your enemies. I don't know your teenage problems and god knows what else. I don't know how far along the world has changed ever since Cuba, and how much of it was my doing. Or Charles' for that matter.

Do you understand how difficult this is? I have to gamble on you, and that's not a move I'm comfortable making. But I do need you, and this is why I need to know: can I trust you? And let me tell you, Pyro - [he looks absolutely, incredibly frustrated - ] before I came here, I just had to deal with both Charles, and Emma Frost. I am not in a joking mood.

Alright. Let's make a list here.

One: Cyclops. Scott Summers. He's in the X-Men, and you're the one who brought him up.

Two: it's not my enemies I'm worried about. It's my allies, your allies, whose job security isn't that fucking great, and that brings us to three. Can I trust you? How little's it gonna take before you just dump me for being useless? I don't do trust that much, and I'm sure as hell not about loyalty. You're the one who changed that, and yeah, I'm on your side when it comes to beliefs. All the way. Pretty much 99% on actions, too. I just wanna know if that means fuck all to you.

I know an Alex Summers. [a pause, and then:] Don't mention Scott to him, unless you know it'll get you something. It might mean nothing, it might mean everything to him.

As far as allies go - I haven't got any in this place, but that's hardly a problem. [erik looks exasperated at him.] I don't know what the other Magneto did to you, [that's just how he's gonna refer to his future self now,] but where I'm from, I don't turn my back on any mutant I've personally extended my hand to. [if you mention charles he will not be responsible for what happens next.]

[He furrows his brow in confusion, but nods. Yeah, alright. We'll start off with blatant lying.

But Magneto is speaking his language now, sounding more like the one he knew prior to this one arriving (so many Magnetos in his head now, it gets infuriating), the one who actually invited him into the house he shared with -

- no, don't go down that road. Think about now. Now. Pyro is a mutant, and a supremacist. He belongs with Magneto and the Brotherhood. All of the stopgaps he's created to feel support and camaraderie are second-best now that he has his real leader here.

Bobby - well, Bobby will live with it. Bobby opens up so many cans of worms that he doesn't dare think about it right now.]

You can trust me.

[he doesn't want to push this onto the kid - well, really, he's just a kid - he'll reserve some judgement on the side, but nevertheless, if the kid's willing - ]

[alright, so now that he's established that - ] Tell me about Magneto. I've been going around as Erik since apparently, I've reached the point where people are terrified just by hearing my name. And while that's absolutely heartening, it's not always conducive to decent relations with other people, and as we've established before, I can't leave social matters to you.

[He frowns, but does as ordered.]

Magneto's the bogeyman as soon as you get into Xavier's. He's the "bad mutant" to the humans, the one that proves we need stopping. But Stryker was just as happy to have the army attack the Professor's school and use him against us, even though he's the pacifist, so it's not like the Professor's winning any more points that y - Magneto is. They all just laugh at the X-Men when they try to talk about peaceful co-existence. You're - Magneto's the one that pisses them off.

But we need that. Without you guys, you and Mystique, most of the X-Men would've died being shot down by the Air Force and the Professor would've wiped out everyone else. You're the only one who'll do anything.

Stryker .... [erik frowns, trying to remember moira's cia liaisons, but this was more to himself than for pyro's benefit.] so he's come that far, then. That's not surprising, given what I've heard of him. Had I known then that he was going to get worse, I would've launched an attack against him at the time. He was there, too .... it's not the first time he was involved in attack against us. You'd think Charles would know by now, but then again, he has his own failings.

[a glance at pyro.] Have you been training?

Yeah, that would've been nice. [Just a hint of sourness.] He built a new Cerebro and brainwashed the Professor into using it to wipe us all out. Good thing to avoid.

[At the question, he cocks his chin up proudly.]

I'm as high as you can get with the shitty powers here. Powerful enough regen to regrow limbs. Learning knives and swords, too, and I can pretty much take anyone in a fistfight.

Cerebro? How did he get the - of course. [erik makes a face.] It was a joint partnership between Charles and I and the CIA at the time, it's unavoidable that he gets his hands on the basic plans, even if Hank had them readjusted later on. Nice to see I've always been right all along, for what little relief that brings us.

[he raises an eyebrow at him.] Powers. They replace our mutations, you mean? For all of us?

Nope. [His lip curls, but not in mockery.] He brainwashed you, too. He got all the big shots.

Yeah, each God House has two powers. You'll have one of 'em, depends on where you are.

[erik's face turns carefully blank at that, rage surging near the surface and threatening to break.] Well, we can't have that happen again, can't we.

As for houses - I'm in Hel. [odd turn of phrase.] Yours is regeneration? You will help me practice, then. And I suppose I'll have to bring it up with Charles, as well. Eventually.

[Yeah, he knows that rage after being here for awhile and enduring enough curses, so he'll just leave it alone.]

Hel. [Now his distaste is directed at Magneto.] How'd you end up in that shithole? You've either got shadow control or body control, and if it's body control, you're not coming near me with that crap. The shadows I can handle.
