[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Quite a few...! More than I ever thought I would. [Well, with an amicable sort of relationship. The Organization doesn't apply here.] If you count the people I've known who left, it's--... even larger a number. [... She'd rather not think of the percentages, there.] Would you like me to try to count?

[Hee.] And yes-- I know what you mean. All of this does take a lot of getting used to. But-- I think you'll find it's well worth it.

[She nods.] And I don't plan on letting it go to waste! I'd like to meet whoever I can here.

[She nods back.] Good...! I'm so glad you feel that way. Maybe you could even meet some of your friends' other friends, too. [A chain of relationships?] That's always fun.

Mm! I don't doubt that they've made a lot of friends, it should be great to meet them too. I wonder what sort of people they could be...

All sorts, I'm sure. You've got good friends, so it would make sense that they'd have a talent for making friends, themselves. I suppose I should let them introduce you, but-- [Can't help meddling a little, this one.] ... maybe you could ask Dirk about his brothers, if you haven't met them already. They're good people, too.

No, not bad at all! I don't think I've met anyone that I could call bad per say. Maybe one fellow that was...a little shifty. But I haven't heard from him since.

Then you've been lucky. There... are a few dangerous people here, now and again. ... Someone shifty?

[She's more interested in dangerous people than the shifty guy. She'll probably neeever see him again anyway.]

Yes. They... don't seem to discriminate that much about who they bring here. Most of the people they've brought aren't the type to cause trouble, but there have been a few that--....

[She hesitates, then shakes her head, trying to clear the seriousness from her expression.]

... Let's just say that some of them haven't had anyone else's best interest at heart.

But can't they be a little more discriminatory? I would think...they're the ones in charge, they would want to keep their people safe. Right?

They do seem to want to. I've... heard a theory that the gods don't actually have full control over it, but I wouldn't be able to say for sure one way or the other. Still-- there are tactical reasons for allowing those sorts of people into the city, too. Just not ones that you or I might agree are worth it. Really, it depends on how the gods think of it, and that's still up to speculation.

Hmmm...Oh, gosh. I don't know, it just seems unsafe no matter how I look at it.

Yes. It really is. [More a matter of risk versus reward than anything.] Still, most of the time, none of us cause too much trouble. It's... not wise to, and I think that can be a deterrent, to an extent.

Aaah! So there are deterrents. That's good. What are they?

Well-- each other, really. Those of us who were very powerful in our worlds tend not to be here. Even what we're given in this world doesn't really make up for it, and it puts most of us on more even ground. So... someone who might otherwise decide to cause trouble would have a much more difficult time doing it here in the first place, and the chance that they'd face retribution from it either from the other Travellers, the natives, or the gods adds to that. The gods are perfectly happy to curse us for small things, and it'd probably only be much worse if someone did something serious enough for them to decide to intervene. It doesn't stop everyone, but it's... something, at least.

Hmmmmmm.

[There ARE people who would even want to stir trouble without their usual faculties, for sure, but...]

I guess it's a lot, in our situation. And if someone did do something, it isn't like we can't band together to protect ourselves, right?

Yes, there is...! ... Obviously it won't do any good if you don't get a chance to use it, but it's very valuable to have, I think. All you have to do is--
