[In the middle of the night (or rather the early, early morning), there's a sound somewhat like falling hail. It only lasts a couple of seconds, and is followed by the howl of a single big gust of wind that seems to get through the cracks of windows and doors no matter how well closed or locked they were.

It seems the rain was a shower of candy hearts, and they'll be cropping up all over the place all day!

What could this possibly mean?]

Don't be. It was the natural progression of things. I'm more curious about your stance on this war. Are you sitting it out? And are you allying yourself with your Servant again?

He's not my Servant.

[Waver blushes a little at his response coming more forceful than necessary, scratching his cheek.]

I mean-- this is a real war, so I don't mind helping where I can.

[There's some undeniable pride in the way Waver says that, even if he knows it must sound silly.]

[Kiritsugu raises hie eyebrow, but... Well, Rider does seem the inspirational type. He almost wishes he'd gotten along with his own Servant that well.]

He's too eager for battle is what he is.

Mm. I suspect "retainer" really means "the royal babysitter." I can't take my eye off him for a single moment, or he'll be in the middle of a brawl, attempting to seduce someone, or pilfering something! I need one of those leads with the creepy plush bears designed to keep wayward toddlers in line while simultaneously robbing them of any prospects at having dignity.

I suppose it comes in useful when there's a convenient enemy to point him at.

If there's a real battle, he'll be an undeniable asset even without his special abilities.

The only downside would be having to remind him that attempting to recruit the enemy is counter-productive.

If he can convince them not to destroy the world he's welcome to recruit them.

I'd rather he didn't; he might decide to go conquering things.

You should consider getting him to inspire and train the locals. Some of them are soldiers from a previous battle, but a lot of them are helpless at the moment.

[Waver blinks, and then... actually sort of grins. It's a bit lopsided, but it's definitely a grin.]

That's brilliant. It would be extremely beneficial to them and give him something productive to do.

Right. I've been going into the areas worst affected by this disease and trying to make an impact, but my personality isn't as loud as his. He could actually be quite useful.
