END OF ARC 2: PART ONE OF THREE

Who: ANYONE going on the infiltration into Thrymheim!
What: Lots of travelling and also rescuing Freyr's soul.
When: Days 278 - 279 ( June 10 - 13 )
Where: Asgard, Thrymheim, and the road inbetween.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Before even the first crack of sunlight over the horizon on Day 278, every bracelet in the city will give a quiet blip! as they activate with a short mass text from the gods:
The time to act has come. Gather at the Gate of Frost by the Sun's first rays if you will, and be prepared to strike at the heart of ice. There is no room for failure.
Exactly as the message implies: it's time to ship off to Thrymheim. Gear up in your best winter clothes and bring whatever weaponry you need; there are wagons thinly concealed and waiting for you at the southern gate that leads to the home of the Frost Giants. Inside the wagons will be those portable heaters that you guys bought in Utgard, along with spare gloves, jackets and scarves for anyone that foolishly believed summer might touch the kingdom of ice. Travellers can also find food rations to last a week alongside a generous amount of medical supplies that may or may not be a bit foreboding.

The caravan will leave at precisely 5AM, driven by the barest amount of Natives to keep travel at a minimum. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, and a severe silence will fall across the few sitting in the back of the wagons with the Travellers. They know the weight of this mission: if you fail, Freyr's soul will remain trapped forever. It is dangerous and no one's lives are guaranteed, so prepare yourselves for a fight quite unlike any other this far.

As you travel further from Asgard, you might notice the terrain getting a bit more uneven as the wagons move through undeveloped areas. There may be the odd village noticeable in the far off distance, but they are nowhere close enough to make out any distinguishable details because you don't want them distinguishing anything about you in return. These villages are few and far between, and grow even less in number the closer the caravan gets to Thrymheim. The terrain goes from rocky but arable to colder and harder, the temperature dropping increasingly as the earth grows solid and unforgiving, eventually peppering with light snowfall even in the midst of Yggdrasil's summer.

It will take two full days to reach Thrymheim travelling at as fast a pace as they can without wearing out the horses or catching unwanted attention. They will make short stops to feed and brush the horses, switch drivers, and allow for any necessary relief - but these breaks will last no longer than ten to twenty minutes at most. Simple meals will be served by the Natives thrice daily, and Travellers are welcome to attempt sleep on one of the meager pallets stocked up if they think they can manage it. Space is not abundant and neither is time. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is part one of three for the Save Our Souls plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. The second log can be found over here and the third and final log can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

When we need extra bursts of speed, if we can use our shit, I'll provide patches of ice to slide on. We need some extra cover and I can generate fog. [It was a shame the runes couldn't be used outside of the city. He taps the tactical blade sheathed on his right side.]

That's my contributions to Team Badass.

[The gods put them mostly on their own. If they pull this off, they earned that name.]
timaeus_testified: (And you want me to do what about it?)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-16 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It all rests on that. [His mythology knowledge is extensive but, this world is different from the texts. Who knows what lurks in the dark. Worse yet, who knows what the fuck incomprehensible things are on the Queen Frigid's side.

Dirk offers his closed fist to ???. Fist bump?]

That's what I'll be doing too.

[Maybe she could stick to Morgana then? Jon would want her to stay safe, since there was no way she would sit at home and wait for the fighting to be done. Being the defensive team was better than walking into a worse fight and potentially getting herself killed. Arya couldn't help but admire Morgana's calm attitude about the whole thing. It helped.]

Or foolish girls.

[She lets out a huff of air before laughing a bit. She was used to her mother's attitude, that she shouldn't be so quick to admire warrior queens and the like.]

Fierce and bold sound nice, though.

[Even if it wasn't Dirk's intention, there's a happy memory that's activated from his offer:

'You and I have to make the finals! That way, no matter who wins, the four of us split the prize.'...'Okay, you're on!'...'You two are gonna clean up!'...'Go get 'em!'

'It's a promise.']

Heh, good luck too. Let's celebrate afterwards, 'kay? [A sudden mood switch, yes, and ??? bumps his fist against Dirk's. It may not be the same, and it may not be a promise, but ???'s happy enough just remembering a good memory.]

[she makes an amused sound at the name]

I can never figure out whether these gods are complete fools or have an undue amount of faith in our tenacity. But if we succeed we'll deserve the moniker.

So, do we have something like a plan?

[He snorts a bit at such a ridiculous name.]

I've never been one for Gods. Manipulative bastards. We do all the work and they go in for the glory when it is time. We're just pawn pieces for them to play with. That's how any god ever seems to turn out into.

Yes, just note that I might peek into your thoughts just a little to see where I fit best. [And there would be moments where he'd touch just to relay a thought if they had to be quiet.]

...Your grandmother sounds like she's very smart.

[Bisection could almost be a house theme.]

I guess you could say that, yeah. Even if I'm not sure ghost is the right word for it, since I was still alive. I mean, I'm still alive now, but who knows how we're quantifying that shit.

[He shrugs a little.]

Maybe I was like half zombie-bird, half alive-human, and all ghost.

[Hey, he is trying to blend in more. Give him some credit!

His expression goes from amused skepticism—rousing war ditty when it sounds like that? jesus—to mild bemusement. Then he smirks slightly.]

Obviously, man, nothing beats seeing a Strider in the flesh. The cool is hereditary.

[Though that makes his thoughts flick to Dirk, before absconding just as quickly. Yeah, not thinking about how this is the first time he's bothered making an appearance even remotely close to public in over a week.]

The feathers are just a supplement.
necrowmantic: (I'm a single flashing curse)

[personal profile] necrowmantic 2013-06-16 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Henry does- for now, anyway- resist the urge to ask if he can pet said feathery appendages. But he does continue to eye them with obvious interest. Did he smell like a bird? Maybe if he got just a little closer....]

Nothing herediting about it! The coolness is yours, you know?

[Maybe the complements were a little much, but he does mean it.]

So why'd you come along? Will I get to see the crow kid in fight!? Nya ha!

[personal profile] bowdown 2013-06-16 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
the fuck is up with this war, anywaves? [ she doesn't get it. War means killing and despair and fire and drowning everyone and the world and blood all around. But this war? it's soft and only now they got some action which is about saving some asshole she doesn't give two fucks about.

It annoys her.

But then again, everything does.

Condesce looks over her shoulder back at Tyki and then moves, maybe getting a bit too close for comfort. Unless he doesn't mind, then she is just being the usual bossy self she is ]

Kinda finny, ain't it? That gods can die - makes one wonda, eh?

[ wonder if they can be killed by other means.

Condesce turns around again, happily ]

[Davesprite side-eyes him a little. Was Henry smelling him? Holy shit.

He doesn't really smell birdlike, though, at least short of someone shoving their face right into a wing and inhaling. Or maybe if he were wet. He definitely gets the wet-bird smell when his wings are wet.]

Well, that, too. Coolness is a stratified concept you can't just explain in a few words. But I'm here 'cause I felt like it.

[He shrugs a little, as if that gross simplification explained everything.]

And if that means kicking some ass, then yeah, I'm here for that, too. Though I don't think I've even got to ask why you came along.
necrowmantic: (all of your beautiful bodies)

[personal profile] necrowmantic 2013-06-16 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[No musky animal scent. Or at least, nothing overwhelming birdish, and Henry had smelled quite a few crows, so he thought he knew what to expect. It was a little disappointing. But, he didn't exactly have his head shoved up against a single of Davesprite's wings- he wasn't even touching any feathers! Henry wasn't about to give up hope so easily.]

Good reason enough! And I guess it is pretty obvious on my side, huh?

[He laughed again, cheerful as ever.]

Though in the end, it's the same reason as you. I just felt like it!
prazerbutterfly: (zpost exo - cheery notice)

[personal profile] prazerbutterfly 2013-06-16 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Wars always have a cause. It may just be different here. Though generally the killing does last much longer than that. Here people just come back. All their lives are expendable only because they return.

[He shakes his head and continues with her hair. She'll get a raised brow when she does and he won't move at all. He doesn't mind that closeness.] It does. I wonder if we even need them. Not all of them at least.

historyrabbit: (headrub φ I never meant for you)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2013-06-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[For Lavi, who was always on the road at home, snow is just a travel-hazard. He hasn't had time to appreciate its beauty though he often does take the time to be a kid in it and toss a few snowballs or make snowmen of his friends. It just doesn't seem to be the time or the place for it.]

Depends on if the planet we're on is in a different solar system, yeah? Could have three moons or even more than that. Some of our planets do, Jupiter and Saturn.
historyrabbit: (rabbit φ The fear)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2013-06-16 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, if I can get an un-opinionated version of it from someone.

[His lips curve a little as he listens to her.]

Nah, I'm not much of one on elaboration like that. More to the details alone.

I am sure there are other threats that we will face soon enough.

[Loras gives a nod, and a tight smile.]

I do, as poor as that might sound. I am still unsure of how to use my power, though--hopefully my skill with the blade will be enough.
timaeus_testified: (Shake it like an earthquake)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-17 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Only with equipment we don't have on hand. [Dirk admits as he eyes the sheathed blade. There's something he can do.] Wait here.

[He vanishes, appearing seconds later with his messenger bag. He sets it down and pulls out his travel kit for his weapons. It's a small oiled roll of leather. Inside are two flat stones, a small bottle of oil, and a cloth.

Dirk draws the blade and ice forms over the blade and within the sheathe. He focuses on the residue, freezing just that and tips both towards the snow. Dirk takes a step away from her, letting the ice fall off the blade first. The sheathe follows. Hopefully he got all of it.]
There's a strong chance I might not have gotten all of it. I'll oil it to delude whatever it was further.

Be really careful not to cut yourself with this. ....That's one option anyway, the other is I could hand over a dagger from my arsenal. It's good to go if you ever need to use it and balancing it for you would be a snap.
timaeus_testified: (And what is that?)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
It seems like we have a bit of a plan. As much of one as we can on knowing fuck-all about the opposition other than they're 'giants'. [Dirk leans back, checking the edge he's been putting on the dagger and slips his water stones away into the oiled roll on the side away from Tyki. He pulls out a small cloth and the bottle of oil from it.]

We can work the rest out as we go. [For better or worse, this was the team and the objective. The rest was whatever it was. He doesn't really care.]

Weird.

[He wants to compare it to his own experiences, to lycanthropy, but Isaac keeps his mouth shut. Enough people have freaked about that part.]

What's your name, anyway? I'm Isaac.
lethechained: (Olderne! Maybe so.)

[personal profile] lethechained 2013-06-17 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Okay--

[-- Oh. Gracious, that was fast. She blinks at him, but makes no comment, instead choosing to watch him work and doing so silently. Her focus is intent and curious. When he speaks again, she nods.]

Thank you. It's very kind of you to do this.

[At the offer, though, she blinks, hesitates, then shakes her head. (Mentally, she files away 'arsenal'.)] That won't be necessary. I appreciate it, but - this will do. You've already helped me more than enough. Still, I'm glad that you're so well prepared.

[Technically, he did get her to run away once. But it's better than the Darkness take her too.

??? knows when he's being unrealistic at times too. He also knows he's putting her into an uncomfortable position when he's being (painfully) honest. It's why he's silent for the most part, like he's already quit from their conversation, but he does eventually sigh to himself.]

I'll teach you. I'll teach you and protect you, okay? We'll figure it out.

[He'll reach for her hand, even if it's barely warm at all. He can't do much more than that to reassure her.] Let's try and get some sleep. We have a long trip ahead of us.

She is. She really helped me a lot before I tried to go find the book to read at Agatha's grave.

[He misses his grandma too. It's been too long since he's been away from home, and there's still Agatha to deal with.]
lethechained: (Olderne! Maybe so.)

[personal profile] lethechained 2013-06-17 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[That was only because there wasn't anything she could do and she knew it. There was no way she could help him but by making his sacrifice worth what he meant it to be.]

[His silence may trouble her, too, but if it does, it's visible only in the corners of her frown as she waits, watching patiently. His sigh, at least, is a sign he's listening - not that she expected otherwise.]

... Okay. Thank you. I'll... try to make it easier for you.

[The moment she realizes he's reaching for her, she reaches back, hand fitting with his without hesitation. Her smile is her own way of trying to reassure him, too, and at his suggestion, she nods.] Right. That's for the best. [And her smile does not fail, especially when she says,] Good night.
