[ It had worked once before, back in the heat of late summer in Asgard, so Jade was trying it again. She had dragged the sign out to the front of the store, right in the middle of the sidewalk, and written in huge letters:

free hot chocolate! :D
just come inside ♥

The temperature hadn't broken the sixty degree mark today - it was getting chilly fast. Both Orihime and Annabeth were gone, and the store was oddly quiet. Jade will be found keeping herself busy throughout the day with odd little chores when it's completely empty of customers - sweeping, dusting, and occasionally dozing in a booth near the door when the boredom becomes too much to bear. ]

Or it was, anyway. I was very lonely for a long, long time. But... that just means I'm even more glad to be here than I already would have been.

[Shifting slightly in her seat, she casts about for a better topic.]

So, um-- you're... friends with Dirk, aren't you?

[Detectives are good. Which detectives? There are lots. Jane could probably talk Namine's ear off about Hercule Poirot and his cute, pristine mustache.]

I am. Roxy, too! Do you know her, or just Dirk?

Mmhm! I've met her before. I haven't had the chance to speak with her much, but she seems nice...! I'm so glad you can all be together again.

So am I - though we were all together when I left. [A pause, and a bit of a frown. She hadn't thought much about the game recently.] Well. Sort of. But that's neither here nor there, is it?

You haven't? You should! Roxy is the best friend any girl could ask for!

[She doesn't say 'in the game?', because that's well enough implied and she knows enough to know that it's not the best topic of discussion. She'd know even without that frown.] Mm. Sometimes it helps to focus on what's going on now.

[And, you know, not horrible experiences of the previous stage of one's life.]

I really should...! Everyone seems to think so highly of her. [Her previous moirail's black interest aside. (She gets the feeling that's a compliment in it's own right.)] You, Dirk... it sounds like she's very special to both of you. I think that's probably about all of the endorsement I need. [Hee.]

[Jane's smile is so bright.] Roxy is my best friend, and means a lot to all of us. But all of my friends are special to me!

[Gosh, what a smile. It makes her smile all the more warmly, too, quietly amused and more than a little pleased.]

That's great. I'm always so glad to see people getting along...!

How many people do you know here, Namine? Color me curious, is all.

[She lets out a breath, almost as if from the weight of that list.]

Quite a few...! More than I ever thought I would. [Well, with an amicable sort of relationship. The Organization doesn't apply here.] If you count the people I've known who left, it's--... even larger a number. [... She'd rather not think of the percentages, there.] Would you like me to try to count?

If you'd like to! But if it's really too many, "quite a few" seems like a good estimate.

[She props her chin on her hands.] It's just...wow. I don't know! Kind of amazing still, I guess.

Of course. You're a very nice girl, Jane. I'm sure you'll be able to make lots of friends in no time.

[Hee.] And yes-- I know what you mean. All of this does take a lot of getting used to. But-- I think you'll find it's well worth it.

[She nods.] And I don't plan on letting it go to waste! I'd like to meet whoever I can here.

[She nods back.] Good...! I'm so glad you feel that way. Maybe you could even meet some of your friends' other friends, too. [A chain of relationships?] That's always fun.

Mm! I don't doubt that they've made a lot of friends, it should be great to meet them too. I wonder what sort of people they could be...

Hee...! I think you're probably more to blame for that than I am.

[Not that it's a bad sort of blame.]

All sorts, I'm sure. You've got good friends, so it would make sense that they'd have a talent for making friends, themselves. I suppose I should let them introduce you, but-- [Can't help meddling a little, this one.] ... maybe you could ask Dirk about his brothers, if you haven't met them already. They're good people, too.

But like I said, they're not bad people.

[She would call them ridiculous, or intriguingly strange.]

No, not bad at all! I don't think I've met anyone that I could call bad per say. Maybe one fellow that was...a little shifty. But I haven't heard from him since.

[... Yeah, they're pretty ridiculous.]

Then you've been lucky. There... are a few dangerous people here, now and again. ... Someone shifty?

There are? But...how? The gods brought them here?

[She's more interested in dangerous people than the shifty guy. She'll probably neeever see him again anyway.]

Yes. They... don't seem to discriminate that much about who they bring here. Most of the people they've brought aren't the type to cause trouble, but there have been a few that--....

[She hesitates, then shakes her head, trying to clear the seriousness from her expression.]

... Let's just say that some of them haven't had anyone else's best interest at heart.
