- Day 461 ( June 9/10 )
- When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:
As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.
A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.
Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.
The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition. - Day 462 ( June 11/12 )
- The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.
At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

462!
That's what he gets for thinking too hard, he supposes. And so is the distracted air that leads him, as he turns his head to frown at one of the booths he must have passed four or five times by now, to tread heavily on someone's foot.
"Oh, sorry -" Barely looking up, he hurries aside - but then he stops, and then he goggles.
"Kanji! Is that...?" Duh, of course it is, now that he gets a second look. Still, nobody could blame him for being a little shocked, right? It's not really a question of priorities, right? ...Right? "Dude, what happened to you?"
Re: 462!
In his own somewhat distracted state of mind, it takes him a few moments to register who the foot-stomper even was. He's just about to let Yosuke off the hook for the collision, when what he's being asked instead registers.
"What d'you mean, 'what happened'?" he asks. "Didn't ya reco-"
Wait a second, here. Is he seriously implying that - "Man, I do somethin' with my hair and then ya don't even recognise me?" It's colour and nothing else, so far, so the question gets him looking rather puzzled.

Forcing himself to straighten up, he crosses his arms. "So what's the occasion? ...Did one of these things have a dress code? I mean, I didn't see anything like that."
no subject
He shrugs. "Thought I oughta make a clean start, ya know?" A new look for a new responsibility. One that he still wasn't sure he could manage, but ... well, he was committed now, wasn't he?

A moment, and he goes on - "I'm going to fight."
no subject
It takes him a second to catch on - and once he does, he can't stop himself from looking Kanji over again.
"Ohhh... Oh, right. The military military. ... I guess I can see it."
His voice is neutral, but it's not too hard to notice his already uncertain expression starting to cloud over.
no subject
As he talks, he starts to notice the darkening expression on Yosuke's face. "What's up? I'm not gonna go hit the giants with chairs, man. I know this is gonna take more'n that."
no subject
Yeah.
He forces a laugh. "I mean, now I know something happened! It never stopped you before."
no subject
"I'm gonna do this right - an' show them that we ain't lyin' down easily."
no subject
He shifts his weight from one foot to the other.
"... Lately I dunno whether it's everything here rubbing off as well, or if he really is sounding more like you."
Okay, whoops, that was louder than he'd intended. Then again, he wouldn't expect Kanji to be listening too closely.
no subject
Listening closely, perhaps not. Still, those last few words catch his ear, and he frowns. Who's he meant to be sounding like? Or is someone sounding like him?
"...senpai?"

"...Point, though. I ain't seen him at all."
no subject
Casting a look back at the healer sign-up booth he walked away from a minute ago, he sighs a little. "I didn't decide on anything just yet, so I was kind of wondering what he went with in the end... Still, if he's not around, that's no big deal either." He manages to smile wryly again. "Pretty sure I can leave the honest to god soldiering to you, at least. Heck, why would they need to recruit anyone else?"
no subject
The earlier comment, though, has him thinking for a moment. "You think he would've tried to get me to do it?" Back to being a spot baffled here. "No way, man, I told ya why. Ya got any idea at all yet?
no subject
Even if it's not the cause of all his wavering, he'll admit it's one of them. ...A decent chunk of one of them.

That's the Kanji he knows, though, and recognising that somehow does make him feel a little better. Never getting hung up on the big picture stuff for long, so earnest about it that coming from anyone else it'd almost be cute... Sometimes, he's jealous.
"I dunno," he says again, running a hand through the side of his hair. "It'd suck if everyone who didn't know any better saw it and thought 'oh, fighting should mean fighting', and then in the end we got like three people in the whole city trying to cover preparations for everything else. Wasn't that booth pretty busy earlier?"
no subject
Yosuke's other comment, though, makes him think back - "Pretty busy, yeah. Didn't look how many names were actually there. But there's so many people who go on the network yellin' about how much they don't wanna fight that I don't think that's gonna be a problem. And some people just... shouldn't be doin' it."
no subject
He sticks his hands back in his pockets. "Oh well. Guess there's nothing to do besides keep on going around until I think of something. What a pain.
"... Anyways, if you're all set, what're you doing now? Gonna go scare people off from hoarding too much of the food?"
