Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

( bones is observing, leaning against one of the tables with his arms crossed over his chest. he spots fuuka but doesn't take much notice of her until his second gaze around the area. it's then that he calls out, not unkindly: ) Are you lost, or something?

[With that sound of voice, the young girl made a quick turn to spot someone whom she never met before. Uh-oh, she wasn't really good with these types of things.

Quick, think of something!]

Uh...I suppose so? This is my first time working in a setting like this and I'm not too sure what to do?

[sufferably]

Well, you see these booths? ( he gestures around. ) You go up and talk to the people standing at 'em. Then you pick one.

( his sarcasm isn't as biting as it might otherwise be; in fact he seems nothing so much as amused. )

[yamagishi]

[She just stared at his words. With her eyes widening, she found herself feeling small]

Um...I'm afraid that I'm not sure which booth would suit me best. It doesn't seem like there are any that would fit me.

[sufferably]

( he huffs out something between a laugh and a sigh, shakes his head. )

Join the club. Most people aren't really born ready for a war for existence.

But here we are, anyway.

[yamagishi]

[In return, she gave him a half smile]

No, we definitely aren't but we don't have much of a choice. It's sad that we do have to fight but isn't there anything else we can do?

[sufferably]

Sure. ( he waves a hand in a vague motion. )

You're not gonna see me picking up a sword, or whatever else. And some people are coordinating supplies, and I figure emergency response'll be more reactive than offensive.

[yamagishi]

That is true!

While my abilities back home didn't allow me to fight with my friends, I suppose it is better to just be support and help others out! Although, I never thought about emergency response being more reactive though.

Abilities? ( he's been keeping records, of a sort, about people's comparative abilities and physiologies. there's too much magic at work in this world and others for him to make much scientific sense of it all, but he tries. )

Well, it's right there in the name, ain't it? Response team.

Um....my abilities back home allowed me to heal people and tell me where they were. It feels weird not having it anymore but I suppose whatever my abilities here are is also just as good.

[Or so she hoped. All she knew was that she had either fire or ice powers. It was a shame she didn't know yet]

Yes but...I was never really a part of the medical or response team. [Not this type of work anyway]

( he thinks on that a moment, chin resting against one hand. a few months ago, the talk of powers and abilities that go beyond what he's used to might have upset him, but he's learned to take these things in stride.

after a long moment, he says-- ) You could do that here. Heal people, I mean. Most ways I know don't have to involve magic.

[yamagishi]

I heard that you could but it does depend on what house you're in? I'm in Odin but I heard you either can use fire or ice powers there.

[The last she heard anyway. How could ice or fire help her with the medics?] Oh, I know! I use to know some medicine back home, my parents were doctors but I never really applied it before!

[How funny that she never wanted to become one and yet...]

Sigyn. She's the healer, among the gods.

( which is, not coincidentally, the house he's in. )

It takes a bit of time to become a doctor, but there's always fist aide. And the potions and salves and sh--things that people use here.

If that's what you're interested in, at least.

[yamagishi]

It's not so much that I'm not interested, it's a little different from the path I chosen back home.

I wanted to work with computers rather than be a doctor like the rest of my family. I do want to help people but just not the way my parents wanted me to be?

[She gave a pause] But I don't mind being here if that's what you're saying?

[sufferably]

( he'd kill for a computer that works the way he's used to, but that seems beside the point. so he just readjusts, arms crossed over his chest as he tilts his head noncommittally. )

There's probably something technological to dig into--maybe not with a typical computer, but.

Medics would be here-- not that I'm recruiting, or anything. But we've gotta pick something, and useless as the gods are I doubt now's the best time to push our luck with 'em.

[yamagishi]

Anything would be better than nothing. Anything technology related would be fine so long as I can use it somehow to help some people.

[She missed her computer back home already. With a such of any real technology, she was forced to go back to a few basics. Even if she didn't want to.]

Well, if there is no other choice, I wouldn't mind working with you and everyone. I might not have any healing abilities nor do I know a lot about medicine but the basics would be enough I hope.

Medicine is at least seventeen percent hope, yeah. ( he says that very seriously, as if it's a fact and not some sort of dry-humored joke. )

[yamagishi]

Wouldn't it be at least 50%? Especially if it's going to be in a life or death situation?

[And she'll be serious right back]

That'd be the odds, more than the content.

[yamagishi]

[For a couple of seconds, she pondered a bit until she responded back]

I suppose but it would be difficult to tell even with the content? Is the content that important?

I'm a doctor, not a philosopher. So, yeah, it is.

[yamagishi]

Well, even so, if you are putting a lot of effort into the content, there is still that chance for them to live.

But I'm not a doctor, I only have relatives who are.

[sufferably]

( he smiles, a bit wanly, but that's more than most people get out of him. )

That is the goal. ( he pauses, for a moment, then extends his hand. )

I'm Doctor McCoy, by the way.

[yamagishi]

[The young girl smiled back as she returned his handshake]

It's nice to meet you, Doctor McCoy. My name is Fuuka Yamagishi! Are you new here as well?

[sufferably]

Not really. ( he shrugs, then looks a bit put out. )

It's been what... four, five months? Awhile longer than I'd hoped to be here, at any rate.
