EVENT LOG: GOOD GOD, Y'ALL

Who: EVERYONE
What: the Good God, Y'all mingle log.
When: Days 461-462 ( June 9-12 )
Where: the castle courtyard
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

Day 461 ( June 9/10 )
When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:
As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.
A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )
The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Good God, Y'all event. Remember that all characters must be signed up for at least one group by June 12. Information on the currently established groups can be found here; sign-ups are in the comments section on the same post. Please put [OPEN/CLOSED] along with the time/location in the title of your comment. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

[There was a faint whiff of sulfur on the air that was a hint he wasn't entirely alone. Samantha emerged into view from behind one of the booths and glanced towards him. She got a wry grin as soon as she caught sight of the priest and gave him a little nod.]

Father.
jocularity: (Looking up)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-14 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He gave a start at first - it was inevitable, considering his background, and what he found himself facing, but then he recognized who it was, and his hat came off, and he rubbed his neck in an embarrassed gesture.]

Samantha. Nice to meet you, finally. [At least, he thought it was. Their last conversation hadn't gone too badly, all in all.]
samantha_grey: (hmmm)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-14 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[She shot him a knowing smirk when he was rubbing his neck. Yeah, she didn't expect this would ever really be easy.]

Good to meet you. You know... since you're not exactly my 'Father,' is there something you don't mind me calling you? My relationship with mine isn't something I like calling to mind much.

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-15 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[He flushed slightly. When was the last time anyone had ever actually asked him that?]

My given name is Francis, but as you can imagine, most people don't actually use that. That or Mulcahy would work.
samantha_grey: (Determined)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-15 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Francis? [She chuckled and shook her head.] I like Mulcahy a little more. Reminds me of the Isles, anyway.

So, you signed up?
jocularity: (Best not to ask)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-15 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I am used to hearing Mulcahy, that's always best. [Francis was more for his sister, after all.]

I have, to the supplies team. What about you? [He was curious. What would she do?]
samantha_grey: (hmmm)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-16 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've been with the medics since we formed the corps along with Merlin. I'm not that kind of healer, but I'm good with medicines and potions, that and killing anything that might hurt a healer, so it's where I'm most comfortable.

[Well, that and she joined the Strike team, but that wasn't going to be something she shared publicly.]

Supplies? Good. We'll need to keep that going in the real fighting.
jocularity: (A happy Father)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-16 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
[A demon - or half-demon as a healer? There was a delicious irony in that.]

Exactly. And it's the smallest thing, easily overlooked, that tends to be the most important I've found. Well, it's true with my unit back home, anyway.

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-18 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Knowing human anatomy had a duality of uses for assassins and predators alike...]

Your unit? Wait, I forget. You said you were a... were you a chaplain or something? It's not like most priests I've ever heard of talk about the churches they're in as "units."
jocularity: (Default)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-18 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a church I was in. An army unit that I was attached to as chaplain. I came straight from one war to this one.
samantha_grey: (Pensive)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-18 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well then, that does make some sense. Yeah, supply lines are sort of ... important in a war. [She scratched her head. He'd mentioned how 'normal' his world was. Maybe it had the same history to an extent.]

What war were you in, if you don't mind sharing?
jocularity: (Default)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-21 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Korean war. Well, police action, but a war in all but name.

[People fought. People died senselessly. Some things would never change, it seemed.]
samantha_grey: (grrr)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-22 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
War. They called it a war afterwards, trust me. [She shrugged.] It's... been a few years since the Korean War where I'm from. There were a few others after that.

You know... before the space invasions and crazy crap.
jocularity: (Default)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-22 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. In a way it's good to know that it was seen for what it was. But the fact that we keep falling into war? It's disturbing. [What did it say for the human condition, after all?]
samantha_grey: (Default)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-22 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Russia, Chine and the States had a territorial pissing match for a while. They dropped it in the nineties. [First hint about how long it had been for her.] It's not friendly, but it's something.

There were some troubles with the muslims, but a lot of that ended when the first invasion came. Changed the direction of the conflict. Either way, though, people will always find an excuse to kill each other.
jocularity: (Default)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-25 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'd really hoped that would change after people saw the senselessness of Korea, but it sounds like it continues, or even gets worse.

I'm not sure what to feel about that.
samantha_grey: (Seriously?)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-06-25 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Vietnam was supposed to have been worse, but that was decades before I was born. Honestly, padre, it shouldn't surprise you. Your own good book pretty much said it would always come. Humans are just like this. You put three in a room, and eventually one of them will want to punch one of the others for some reason.

[She shrugged noncommittally.]

Don't get me wrong. I don't like it either. I got sick of being killed for stupid reasons after the first time, but getting them to stop's like trying to go cold turkey for me. It just makes the inevitable bender that much worse.
jocularity: (Praying)

[personal profile] jocularity 2014-06-30 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[She might have been correct, and yes, the bible did intimate it, but it didn't stop him from wishing fervently that it wasn't the case. He did want to see the best in everyone, after all.]

I can't help but hope things improve. Sometimes it seems like hope is all we've got. [It might have been a little plaintive, that thought.

And here is where he has a problem. He doesn't want to hear that humans killed her, not someone as intelligent and as obviously fed up with her lot in life as her. But he is who he is, and his training and beliefs are always going to be there.]
