EVENT LOG: GOOD GOD, Y'ALL

Who: EVERYONE
What: the Good God, Y'all mingle log.
When: Days 461-462 ( June 9-12 )
Where: the castle courtyard
Rating: PG-13. Anything higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

Day 461 ( June 9/10 )
When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:
As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.
A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )
The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the mingle log for the Good God, Y'all event. Remember that all characters must be signed up for at least one group by June 12. Information on the currently established groups can be found here; sign-ups are in the comments section on the same post. Please put [OPEN/CLOSED] along with the time/location in the title of your comment. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

When you left the big city?
samantha_grey: (grrr)

When I took a job that put me right in the public's eye. It was a way to ... well, deal with what I am. I needed help, and public service got me that help.

Public service? Not sure if I should be surprised.

If you'd known me back then, you might have been a little. I tried to avoid people most of the time in the years before I joined the Force. [She grunted.] But, really, public service is a good way to say "Hey, I'm not a monster!" Pretty damned effective.

Well.

[ He shrugs, and exhales a laughter. ]

I guess it is.
samantha_grey: (Uhhh)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-07-14 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's not such a bad thing, public service. Pay's shit, but the equipment was at least decent and they helped keep an eye on me until I got a clear head about my problems. It wasn't my first choice, but it was a good solution in the end.

[ He makes a vague motion with his hand. ]

Hey, if it worked for you.

[ Power to you etc. etc. ]

It did, mostly. At the very least, it gave me something to do and a place to live for a while, so that was a bonus. Met a few interesting people.

Yeah, I bet you did.

[ Really doesn’t surprise him. ]

Sounds like the place that gathers interesting people.
samantha_grey: (Smirk)

When I qualify as one of the "normal ones," you should have an idea of the kinds of characters I worked with. It was like a bad action flick in space sometimes. [She smirked.] Most of them knew what they were doing though.

Yeeahhhhhh. I can imagine.

[ Wow. ]

No offense.
samantha_grey: (Sad Smile)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-08-29 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
None taken. I'm a creepy half-breed demon that feeds on sex and casts illusions spells in her off time. Trust me. When I actually left my little hole in the wall in West Virginia I got used to how not-normal that was real fast.

You really thought it was?
samantha_grey: (hmmm)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-09-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I used to live with one person, some chickens and pigs in a farm in the middle of the mountains. I think I saw five other people in my life before I left home. It's hard to know what other people thought was normal that way.

[ He raises his chin and makes a drawn out "ahh" sound. ]

Out in the middle of nowhere. Right. Gotcha.

Yeah, with a dash of "Hide your half-demon daughter from anyone that might kill her or she might eat." So, sometimes I don't really 'get' things everyone else seems to. It's not that bad anymore though. I had a few years away from home to learn.

Time away from home does wonders.

[ Even when “home” means your country rather than your actual home. His life sure is a lot better after Afghanistan, in some ways. ]

It... wasn't quite willing, but it did help some things, yes. There's always a positive even in the worst of times I suppose.

[personal profile] hadbadays 2014-09-08 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ He throws a look around, crossing his arms. ]

Not sure time away from home in this case is doing me good or bad, though.
samantha_grey: (Seriously?)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-09-08 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering that we don't remember anything... it's doing good for the people here. Us? That's more of a debate.
hadbadays: (→93)

[personal profile] hadbadays 2014-09-10 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ A huff. ]

Tell me about it. Makes things feel kind of pointless sometimes.

[ Although he's not sure he really wants to remember another war. ]

Unless you take to the idea of protecting these natives, yeah it can feel that way. It's hard, even after this long, to completely buy into the line of "We're protecting our worlds." I can believe there's a connection, so by preserving this we're not getting backlash in ours, but not the whole 'world of worlds' idea.
hadbadays: (→81)

[personal profile] hadbadays 2014-09-16 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm having trouble believing that too.

[ Huff. ]

But I spent a lot of time on the field protecting people that weren't really "ours," [ physical quotation marks too, because people are people and he'll protect them ] so this is no different. Even if it's another world, not another country.
samantha_grey: (Yeah...)

[personal profile] samantha_grey 2014-09-16 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. It's not exactly old hat for me yet, but ever since I joined up, I ended up helping people I'd never met before in my life. Just seems normal to keep it up here.

And, really, as much as people try to make me see the other side, I've seen fire giants in action without a war on their side. They don't need protection.

No, I didn't get that impression from them either.
