Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

"Excuse me. There aren't many of me! I am absolutely unique. I just come in different editions." He huffs pointedly, folding his arms. "And," he raises a finger, "I am not a typical Time Lord. They could give your dad a run for his money on the stubbornness side, believe me." A pause. "Well, I suppose I'm like Time Lords in that regard. A bit."

[bythewaves]

An amused raised eyebrow. "Your brother tells me there are eleven editions of you, although not all are present here - how other would you like me to define 'many', Doctor? But I believe you on the 'not typical' score - your brother has said as much to me as well."

A smile. "And the stubborness I think needs no arguing"

He huffs, for the sake of it.

"Another edition is the same thing in a different casing, possibly with a thing or two added. But there's only one of me in the entirety of my universe."

[bythewaves]

Maglor laughs at that - bright and cheerful - "Ah, well, I will concede on that point. Aye, there is only one Doctor - and I suppose one is enough, eh?"

Well. Good.

"My friends would probably say it's more than enough, yeah."

And he's inclined to agree. He can barely stand himself as it is.

"Perhaps" Maglor shrugs, amusedly. "Yet, you have been a good friend to me here - in all your varied selves, and I deem you have been so to more than just me either. There might also be argument that we need more like you."

That brings a smile to his face, even if it's an odd one, and he lowers his gaze for a second. He wouldn't agree.

"I think there is that argument."

He'd say there are better people than him for there to be more of. Clara, for example. Rose. Amy. All his companions.

[bythewaves]

"You think" the murmur is soft and understanding "That there are so many bright souls out there better than you. That why would any have you, when you have caused so much harm, when there are others so much better." Maglor knows - he thinks the same, after all.

"Yet I would miss you, if you were not here - and I am sure they would as well. We have all of us a part to play, in the Great Music - your part is as true as any of theirs."

That is a very lovely thought. And he knows - of course he does - that he’s played a big part. An important part. But sometimes - often - he wonders if he hasn’t overstayed his welcome.

“I’m the wound in the fabric of the universe,” he says, ever so casually, with a tilt of his head. “I poke holes in the structure of time and slip in where I feel like. I don’t have a part to play; I make a part for myself to play. I’m that annoying fly,” he wriggles his fingers by his ear, “that won’t stop buzzing around your ear. And then, occasionally, someone lets me settle on their hand and stay a while, until I get frightened or they get irritated and shoo me off.” He puts his hands in his pockets, tilting his chin down, smiling away. “That’s me.”

Maglor smiles a little sadly.

"And who is to say that those holes are not needed? I think you underestimate your worth, Doctor. Not every note is kind or gentle, but they are all a part of the whole all the same. At the least you act out of benevolence, which is more than I can say."

He tips his head to eye the Doctor quietly "You will always have a welcome with me."

Maglor's mistaking it. The Doctor's content. He's fine with it. It's what he's been all his life: The one that's out of place. It's fine, because he has a home, he has his family, his friends. It's all he needs.

This is only further proof.

But, really, there's no point in discussing it any longer. He tilts his head down, smiles wider, and nods.

"And you with me."

An old wound, Maglor recognises, but he knows well enough that some things are not to be spoken of, so he'll drop the topic as well.

"I do hope" He says lightly "That whatever else the war affects, the tea stores will not be overly affected. I begin to wonder if I should have seen if I could keep a beehive for the honey."

[comeonthensexy]

He snorts loudly, and grins. Can't help it. Good call.

"Tea's the kind of thing that can be stored for a long time. I think it'll be fine."

[bythewaves]

"Well let us hope there are enough stores then!" Maglor retorts "Although if you like your tea with milk and sugar you might run into trouble sooner."

A shrug. "The home we have is too small, or I might keep a cow for the milk, but I do seriously wonder if a beehive might be possible."

[comeonthensexy]

"Ohhh, yeah ..." he mutters, mostly to himself; he does like milk with his tea. That's a bummer. "Beehive might work. They're a bit smaller, and pretty much tend themselves."

[bythewaves]

"That was my thought as well" Maglor nods. "We certainly have enough flowers around." Even if most of them... talk...

"You know, I think I will. Alice and Kevin both enjoy the cakes, and perhaps I will see if I can acquire a hen or two for the eggs. In times of rationing, it would do us all some good to see if we can aid the stores a little. I will go by the tavern later - the Chef is fond of me, and I know she has a brace of hens."

He grins a bit at the Doctor. "You will, of course, be welcome to some of them, although I can do nothing about the milk."

"Good idea. We're working on an own garden, but that's basically it. Wonder if I could find hens." He pauses, scratching his chin. "Wonder if drawn hens would lay eggs." A brief snort of laughter. "That's not something I would've expected to say before Asgard."

[bythewaves]

"Only one way to find out" Maglor points out in amusement. "I am hoping the Cook thinks of me with enough fondness to allow me to buy a few. They will hopefully know where I might acquire a beehive and bees, as well."

[comeonthensexy]

"Well, since you won't asking for them for free - which, from what I understand it, tends to get frowned upon - maybe he won't object."

SHRUG.

[bythewaves]

"Hopefully not! I suppose if I invite you around for breakfast in a few days we might find out eh? Although you may have to fight Kevin for his eggs, he is rather fond of them. Alice prefers her toast."

[comeonthensexy]

"Alice can have her toast. I'll fight him for his eggs. I know! We can decide it with rock paper scissors. I am brilliant at rock paper scissors."

He forms his fingers into scissors and waves them about for a bit.

[bythewaves]

"Rock paper scissors?" Maglor repeats curiously. "I fear you have lost me, Doctor. But Kevin is a sly one, and I would not underestimate a hungry youth!"

He chuckles. Something about the expression "hungry youth" is very amusing.

"Don't know rock paper scissors? Let me teach you then. You start out with your hand in a fist." He pulls Maglor's hand up, expecting him to copy him as he fists his. "And you move it up and down three times and chant 'rock, paper, scissors!' And on the fourth go you choose either rock, paper or scissors. The fist is the rock, this is paper," he uncurls his fingers into the flat palm, "and this is scissors." He holds it up by the side of his head, like a peace sign, and grins.

"Now, the rules are simple." As he explains, he makes the motions with both hands. "Rock beats scissors because it crushes them, scissors beats paper because they cut it, paper beats rock because it captures the rock." Lastly he claps his hands together. "And that is how you decide who does the dishes. For example."

"Ah!" Maglor smiles in understanding as he follows along "I have seen similar, although we did not call it such. The young mortal children play it sometimes - in many varieties, although I think the one I saw most commonly of late was 'ring, tower, sword' - I do not expect that one to last overlong, however, as although the tale is well-loved, the gestures are overly fiddly."

He perks up, ever curious.

"Oh? Feel like walking me through those?"
