Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

[ Maglor comes down to sit by him during one of his breaks and tips his head to the question thoughtfully ]

War... is always terrible, but it can be magnificent, in a horrifying fashion as well.

[ He gestures around the tavern ] I sing for them, to remind them that there are things worth fighting for, that there will be stories and tales to gladden the heart as well as to break it. And there will be grief and tears a-plenty, for not all will return home - and yet, and yet... It will be worth it, in the end, if heart is true and cause is right. There are still things worth fighting for.

[He thinks about that a little before he answers.]

Like protecting people. From frost giants and people like Yvette.

Even so. [ he nods and smiles, a little proud, a little sad - he does not want Kevin out there but... ]

A wise man once said that he did not love the sword for what it was, but what it could protect. It is always the best reason to fight.

[He shrugs.]

Fighting with you is fun, though. Just not killing.

[ Maglor smiles a little, still sad and old and reaches across to ruffle Kevin's hair ]

Thank you, yonya. Aye, not the killing. You can still change your mind you know - you do not have to follow me out to war.

No. [He shakes his head firmly.] Not any more. I signed up. It's the only thing I'm even kind of good at.

[bythewaves]

[ a soft sigh ]

Not the only thing. [ Maglor corrects softly, and wishes that he had more time, but the wheels of war wait for no one ] But if that is your wish, then I will see that you are as ready as I can make you.

[ by now, Kevin will understand that that will mean more drills, and probably harsher ones ]

They only thing at for the war, anyway.

[He does understand that. And he makes a face.] More drills? Really? [But he's only complaining halfheartedly.]

[bythewaves]

So it seems [ Maglor agrees with a sigh ]

Aye, more drills. But. I think I can trust you with steel now - we will use the practice blades tomorrow I think. Time to see if you can put the drills to more practical use, hm?

[fire_punk]

Real swords?! Really?! [He's practically vibrating in his seat.]

Well, the blunted practice blades at least. [ Amused ]

Bright and early tomorrow, don't forget now.

I won't forget. I guess it's important now, isn't it?

[ Maglor sobers with a sigh ]

Aye, yonya. I suppose it is.
