Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

No, in my pheromones. [She looked at her a little awkwardly.] It's not a strong odor, but if you get close, or I get aroused you can... errr, smell a little brimstone on the air. I use these like incense sometimes to block the smell.

[ Nowhere near as awkward as Alice, who lowers her head, deciding to look at something else. ]

Nothing else works?

[samantha_grey]

I wear perfume sometimes. It helps... but I don't like doing that too much in public. It's uncomfortable for other reasons.

[She shrugged, not trying to recapture Alice's attention. Always such pleasant conversation topics.]

[digophelia]

[ She can easily find herself being envious of other young women being how pretty they are and she may be falling underneath the category. This isn't helping the situation at all and it isn't Alice's place to judge her. So she shifts the conversation, a little. ]

Oh, but white tea with rose hips smells wonderful.

[samantha_grey]

[Samantha would find it so weird for people to be jealous of her looks. She thought of herself as such a terrible succubus.]

It isn't bad, no. It's a little faint either way for me, so I've never used it for that. Why? You want me to put this out?

[digophelia]

[ An awkward sarter point. Alice eventually turns back to her for the sake of saving face. This would be one of the few times Alice will initially lie. ]

That would be lovely; I'm very fond of your tea.

[samantha_grey]

[She nodded and put the cigarette out on the stone pavement with a tamp of her foot before turning back to Alice.]

I don't really have tea with me anyway, and please don't tell me you mean that horrible crap I used to drink. There's nothing good about that junk other than what it could do if you had problems like mine.

[digophelia]

Horrible-?

[ Funny enough, Alice can't bring herself to use the word "crap" just because it sounds so absurd to her. She genuinely looks confused for a brief moment, waving her hands apologetically. ]

Oh, no, I- no! Your tea always has had a unique flavor to it... and none of that nature.

[samantha_grey]

Oh good, you mean the regular teas. For a second there, I thought you meant the Affadil leaf tea. That wretched stuff... I forget if I ever had you tste that.

[She snickered and scratched at the back of her head.]

Either way, the sulfur shouldn't come back for a while. You been doing alright lately?

[digophelia]

I'm fine, I'm afraid nothing exciting worth noting.

[ Not if you count improving on your defensive training, but hey. ]

[samantha_grey]

You say that like it's really a bad thing. With all the insanity we have here, Alice, a little slice of boring's almost refreshing at times.

[digophelia]

It's a good way to keep us off our guard.

[ Well, it's true, Asgard seems to follow a pattern like that. ]

[samantha_grey]

I'm... never really off my guard, Alice. I can get surprised at times, but I'm not going to allow this to lull me into a false sense of security.

[digophelia]

Well, there are still plenty of unfortunate travelers that may find themselves lulled into that false sense of security.

[ She breathes, as she says this, knowing that younger travelers will find themselves lulled into false security. ]

[samantha_grey]

Probably a lot. Just need to make sure they don't all go that way. Hopefully with some level of preparation we'll do better in that.

[digophelia]

It won't be as easy with the younger ones. They need to know this better than anyone, however, they're the most vulnerable.

[samantha_grey]

... some of them come from worlds that are very different. [She breathed in quietly.] They aren't children like the kids in my world. They grew up fast. Hard.

[digophelia]

That applies to a few I know, however, even they deserve the chance to at least act like a child, even in these downtimes.

[samantha_grey]

Agreed. I just know that a few of them are better suited to deal with this place than some imagine. You remember Conan, right?

[Admittedly, Conan was... complicated.]

[digophelia]

I'm afraid I haven't. Was he a troubled child?

[samantha_grey]

Not so much troubled... but he acted more like an adult most days. He used to run the forensics group in town, and a lot of people answered to him. It was strange, seeing a seven year old walking around, talking like a policeman... especially when people actually listened to him like he was one.

[digophelia]

"Forensics" and "seven year old" don't belong in the same sentence.

[ She says that's not troubled and Alice would beg to differ. ]

Maturity and intellect doesn't always mean a sound mind.

[samantha_grey]

No... they don't, but Conan was very strange. People just naturally listened to him. It was the weirdest thing to see, talking to him about a grisly murder and not seeing a single blink, any paling of skin. And then, another day he's playing hop-scotch happy as a clam.

I'm not sure what was up with him. He was really close with that info.

[digophelia]

Usually those types are the furthest from sanity. Playing hop scotch after looking cadavers doesn't mean anything. It just means they can keep that sanity in toe.

[ And Alice knows these things. ]

Maybe you're right. He was very stable, but he might not have been what most thought was sane.
