Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

Heh, same. [She shrugged and looked around.] You know, we should get together one of these days. We get so lost in whatever we're doing that I don't see you near enough.

Oh! Sure, I'd like that! Do you have anything in mind?

We could go out for lunch, or if you're feeling bold, we could hit a bar. I'm pretty sure they aren't rationing the alcohol nearly as much.

Hmmm...I'm not much of a drinker, but lunch sounds nice. I'm sure even rationed lunches wouldn't be so bad.

That's why I stocked up on cayenne ages ago. A little spice goes a long way to making anything tolerable.

Oh, definitely! Are you particularly fond of cayenne?

[samantha_grey]

I'm fond of strong and spicy flavors. My taste buds aren't as good as humans, so I like food that really bites a bit. Cayenne's just handy to keep around.

I see! But why wouldn't they be as good? Are they rearranged some other way, or...?

[samantha_grey]

I actually studied a little evolutionary sciences after I joined the force. I think it's because taste buds are tied to defenses against poisons and what the animal can digest. I'm a carnivore, and I can eat a lot more... exotic stuff than humans can, not to mention that most poisons didn't do as much to me back home, if anything.

So it just wasn't needed, I guess... assuming evolution applies to demons anyway.

I would think so, though I'm certainly no expert on demons by any means. But that's quite interesting! Tell me, what do you think of sweets then?

I don't mind them, but they have to be almost sickeningly sweet for me to notice so I usually don't bother. Savory and spicy's always been easier to do. I like to mix spice and sweet though... like mango habanero.

I see! Mango habanero...that sounds pretty interesting! Perhaps if Asgard isn't strung up in rations in the future, I should give it a try, if they have it.

... if you get strapped, ask someone over at Hel to use that table I helped win for them with the super hot lamb fries. It can make them anything you want after all.

Really? I didn't know there was such a thing.

[Mental note: investigate Hel House for magic table and test just how true "anything" is.]

Heh, they had a cooking contest a while back. Hel House won it, of all things, though I think the other dish we put out was much better than mine.

[She's made Grubloaf on it, back when she was in Hel. "Anything" edible probably worked.]

Oh? What was the other dish?

You know, I don't really remember. I just remember it not being as insane as chilli-fried sheep balls.

Yeah, I made roasted possum along with pomegranate and ghost-chilli grazed lamb testicles and some spicy grits on the side for the gods, probably months ago. It's been a while. Still kind of proud of that dish, but I'll admit it's not cooking for everyone.

[No. Sam, cook. Cook and sneak whatever you made into Jane's food. Do it for the Vine for the lols.]

...O...kay...but why...why testicles, of all things??

It's a good lean meat and source of protein, plenty of potassium and a decent amount of phosphorus and magnesium [Said, rattling off what she remembered.]. Really high in cholesterol though, so don't eat them that often. Also supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

Erm...well...I guess I could understand the, uh...symbolic meaning behind an aphrodisiac use...

Cayenne and ghost chillis are better for getting people in the mood if you ask me. It gets the pulse racing, which is always a start to making people more excite...

You really don't want to know how to turn lamb testicles into actual aphrodisiacs do you?
