Day 461 ( June 9/10 )

When the Travellers wake up, they will find a message sent to every bracelet in the city:

As per the agreement between the gods and their Travellers, all persons within Asgard are humbly requested at the castle courtyard for enlistment in the Holy City's war efforts. Every individual is invited to find their resolve and seek out their purpose; this is the final stand in Ragnarok, and your help is needed now more than ever.

Enlistment is mandatory! Please see your local officials for more information.

A friendly if not a touch formal invitation to what will essentially be Asgard's job fair! A mandatory job fair. This is why we can't have nice things.

The castle courtyard and the streets leading into it will be crowded with bustling natives and several booths, not uncommon in appearance to the many festivals they've had over the last two years. This time, however, there is no music or celebration to be had. Everyone is hard at work organising their efforts for the war and doing their level best to assist in the transition.

Day 462 ( June 11/12 )

The fair will continue for two days, to give everyone time to get down there and make their decisions. Anyone that hasn't signed up by the end of this day will be visited at home by a city rep and a few guards that will politely ask them to register for a group and weaponry if they plan to carry it. Refusal will land them in jail for the day, where they will still be politely asked to please, seriously, just pick something. Anything. Uncle Odin wants you.

At the end of the fair, there will be food and drinks to thank the Travellers for their support and cooperation. Throughout the entirety of the event and for the rest of their stay, the natives will be more reverent and grateful than ever than the Travellers have chosen to stay and fight at their side. They will do anything they can to help them win this war; this evening will be one of camaraderie and appreciation for the past, present, and future sacrifices to save the World Tree.

Well...thank you. Even I was surprised what I was capable of. Once I learned to accept it. I always thought it was dangerous, but....I forgot there could be such...beauty in it too.

[Powerful. Dangerous. But she lost sight of the beauty and fun of ice as well. Focusing only on the danger and pain ever since she hurt Anna. It was only after she was alone and away from Arendelle that she truly remembered and rejoiced in that.]

Not sewing. Sorry, I should have explained. You know how Asgard grants powers? Mine back home was different to the Charm I have now. I could control the ice and snow. That's how I made this dress. My ice palace in the mountains.

[There's a small smile at that, bittersweet though it is in knowing the trouble it causes too. She bites her lip nervously, waiting for Ellie's reaction.]

Oh, wow. That's so cool, Elsa.

I mean, ignore the pun, but really. Magic?

Yes. Magic was real back home. I mean, I was the only one I knew with it, but it was real. Is real. The only others I knew of that were aware of magic were the trolls that helped Anna one time. I was scared of my power for years, worrying I'd hurt someone. But more recently, and here....I've remembered it can be beautiful as well as powerful and dangerous.

[It's something she kept hidden for so long. Yet it doesn't seem nearly so huge a deal here. Nobody is scared of her when they hear about her powers back home. They don't freak out, don't call her a 'monster'.]

I guess if you have that kind of magic and it's really powerful, then yeah, it's kind of normal to get nervous about it. But practice makes perfect, all the sayings, yadda yadda.

[It seems... straightforward.]

D'you miss it?

I didn't want to practice or use it at all since I hurt Anna. Not for years after, at least. Being away from everyone, I was free to use it without that risk of hurting anyone. Finally using it again and feeling like I had some sort of control. I guess in some ways I miss it. I always had it. It was part of me, even if I tried to suppress it for years out of fear.

[Here it is again, people telling her things right off the cuff. It'll never cease to amaze Ellie how just listening to people gets them telling her stories she'd never think to ask after, but once they start, she can't stop herself.]

Who is Anna?

Sorry. I should...explain more. Anna is my younger sister. She was here, previously for a while. Things between us were--are, well, complicated. But I suppose with the war....in some regards perhaps she is safer back home.

[Elsa shakes her head, biting her lip. Trying not to ramble. Ellie is just meeting her now. No need to go on about her fears for her sister's life back home.]

[Ellie listens, starting to read between the lines. Just by the guilt, she can tell it's heavier on Elsa's heart than it likely is anywhere else. She's gotten to the age where she can spot it in others, but Ellie hasn't quite made the leap to rationalizing her own heart.

Instead she remembers how Joel started talking about how he and his brother parted last, with harsh words and real hurt. But the part that stuck with her was the way Tommy had thrown open the gates and come rushing out to hug Joel, smiling ear to ear, all differences forgotten. Overjoyed to see him alive.

Ellie's never had a family, not by blood, but she imagines that's what it should be.

So she gives the Queen a grin, elbows her gently in the arm, and tries to channel Riley's way with words.]

Hey, if she's your sister, I bet she loves you just as much as you love her. Whatever happened, you're both alive.

Don't sweat it. You'll figure it out.

[Maybe lacking in Riley's finesse, but hopefully encouraging.]

Both alive....yes. We are. [Or, so far as Elsa knows. She has no actual confirmation of Anna actually dying. Merely fears that as the result of her loss of control. Those simple two words have a far stronger effect than might be anticipated. After the initial surprise at the elbowing, her expression softens and she nods in agreement.]

I'm sure there will be time to work it out. Whether she arrives here or I go back home. Regardless, the reassurance is...well. Thank you, Ellie.

[This little bit of relief is exactly what she's hoped for. Ellie grins back, nods at one of the tables.]

Are you gonna sign up?

Oh, yes. I was thinking....perhaps the welcoming committee. I'm not so sure about fighting or anything with my Charm power, but...I think at least in that much I could help in some way.

[Perhaps it would be different if she had her ice. Maybe then she might be more comfortable with the military or patrol. As it is, she has to work with her charm and how uncomfortable that still makes her beyond simply using it to calm people down.]

That's... actually not one I know anything about. What's Charm?

[She has a vague idea, but- well, she's not close to anyone with that power. Not that she knows of, anyway.]

It's....I can use it to help calm people down. Or to make them fall for me. But I've only really used it to calm people down, like with the flood. The...the ethical aspect is what worries me, that and I don't really have any intention of any relationships like that. Manipulating people's feelings like that.

... I think the fact that you do worry about it says that you can handle it.

I hope so. Thus far I have been lucky in that it hasn't gotten out of hand like my ice back home at least. If I stick to the simpler, lower level of control with just using it to calm everyone that should be enough. Especially for the welcoming committee. Or just...distracting giants from attacking others?

Man, if I could make the giants think I'm adorable instead of wanting to kill me, I think I'd have it made. That's a pretty dangerous power you've got there.

[There's a light laugh at that. Though Elsa is most of the time akin to being almost terrified if her Charm gets out of hand, she still is able to laugh at that and Ellie's wording, one hand raised to her mouth.]

I suppose it could be dangerous if the person wielding the power had....other intentions on the use of it.

[She is trying to go by context here because she might not. Really know such language back home given the time period and her status for obvious reasons also relating to her being so sheltered.]

Okay, quick asshole litmus test.

[Ellie takes another bite of cake, chews thoughtfully while she reasons it out.]

You're at a party and there's one piece of cake left. What do you do?

Well, this is assuming everyone has had at least one piece. In which case, of course, I'd ensure nobody else wants it if I really did feel hungry enough for more.

[Because as queen of course it makes sense to assume she would be playing host. And that would be rude to eat the last piece if someone else might want it, her guests. She seems more amused by the question than anything as she finishes her own piece with a small smile.]
