[OPEN] Love Me, Love Me Not

What: candy hearts event!
When: Day 226 (Feb 26-27)

Rating: PG-13 for kissing and punching and things. Take anything higher to a private log please!

[In the middle of the night (or rather the early, early morning), there's a sound somewhat like falling hail. It only lasts a couple of seconds, and is followed by the howl of a single big gust of wind that seems to get through the cracks of windows and doors no matter how well closed or locked they were.

It seems the rain was a shower of candy hearts, and they'll be cropping up all over the place all day!

What could this possibly mean?]

[It'd be an Eridan class move to eat it and then use the excuse. It would, it would it would it would, and Sollux Captor is way too good for that. He closes his hand around it, and chucks it straight into the bushes. That way there's no temptation.]

Eheheheh, well it'th definitely hytherical that you like my hair, tho.

What? I've always liked your hair, dummy. I mean, no, I wouldn't usually go around blurting it like that..

[ She watches him chuck the candy away and for a moment? She almost, almost seems disappointed. ]

.. ehe. I was sort of hoping you'd eat that for a second. Kind of gross though, right? That has definitely passed its five second rule expiration date. Just be careful not to step on any.

[The pit falls out of Sollux's stomach in the same moment that his heart leaps somewhere in the vicinity of his throat, clogging up his ability to speak for a moment. He has to swallow a couple of times, to make the words come.]

- I thought that would obviouthly be taking advantage of you, and the thituation, and I didn't think that wath fair.

[ She goes a little pink in the face when he literally has to pause before he speaks, and she rubs the back of her head in a gesture that is pretty universally understood as 'nervous.' ]

Well, I've kissed a whole lot of people I didn't really want to kiss today, so I figure it's only kind of fair if I get to kiss one of the people I do?

[ She ducks a little closer, probably emboldened by the fact that people are literally punching and pinching and kissing wherever she looks. ]

Do you mind?

[This is a bad idea. They both know this should be a terrible, terrible idea, and he knew that as soon as she even commented on it they were going to do something.]

I jutht admitted to ditching thomething that would allow me to do jutht that out of thtupid gallantry. Do you want me to go get it? I'm thure I can find it again, or find one jutht like it.

[ Except she just rolls her eyes at his offer, reaching to hold his cheeks with her hands before she leans up and kisses him once, chastely, on the mouth. It's brief but sincere, and she figures it was probably best to get it out of the way before they both talked themselves out of it.

She steps back and somehow manages to unglue her tongue from the roof of her mouth. ]

Hehehe. Not necessary. But thanks!

[It's not the kiss he expected. He can't even get his hands up to touch her, or his mouth to work back against hers before she's already pulling away. But as soon as it's done he can't imagine that she'd have done anything else. They'd been trying so hard to keep this from being anything.]

[He shifts, trying to stand back up, and in the moment where his weight moves he puts his heel down on a candy-]

Except that wath literally the wortht kithh I have ever had in my life.

[ Her face literally falls - she hasn't picked up on the fact that he's stepped on a candy, yet. It quickly gives way to a flicker of irritation instead, and she lifts her hand to push lightly at his shoulder, to get past him. ]

I still think we should try it, you know. Someday, you and me, if you can settle for just-

[ And then she treads on a candy the same color as the grass, and instead of nudging his shoulder out of the way, she turns to sock him solidly in the mouth. Oops. ]

[He didn't mean to say that- he meant to apologize, as soon as he realized what he'd actually said even if there was no recovering from that, to ask her what she meant when her fist slams into his face. His face, which is full of sharp teeth that immediately snap shut on his lip and tongue.

And to compound the embarrassment, in the instinctive moment when his head jerks back under the impact and he tries to step away before she can hit him again all sense of balance is lost, and Sollux goes down, flat on his ass on the pavement, bleeding intensely from the mouth.]

Oh my god!

ow her hand fucking hurts ]

Sollux! Sollux, are you okay? I'm so sorry, I stepped on one of those stupid candies, come here- let me see.

[His hand keeps touching his lips, bleeding freely from about five different cuts from his teeth, looking at the blood on his fingers as though he can't believe it. There's a little trickle out of his nose, too, where she smashed part of it getting his mouth; and all he can taste inside is sharp, biting warm metal.]

You punched me in the face. [It comes out garbled, mushy with blood and his malfunctioning tongue.]

[ She has her hands held to her face, legitimately horrified. ]

I didn't mean to! Jesus, Sollux- it was one of those candies, I'm so sorry- come here, you need to get to a healer!

[ HE'S BLEEDING SO MUCH D: ]

[In a moment of true disgustingness, he closes his mouth, sucks up all the blood in there, and hocks out a giant yellow wad on the pavement. That he hasn't crushed a candy under his bony butt is a mir-

- oh wait.]

I'd let you do it again if it meant you were paying attention and caring about me, which ith ath thad ath anything Eridan hath every thaid trying to get in thomebody'th pantth.

[ She wrinkles her nose in disgust when he spits the blood out onto the pavement, equal parts grossed out and fascinated-- which is why she tunes in on what he's saying halfway through and just cracks up a little. ]

.. you sat on a candy heart, didn't you?

[He just groans and puts his head down in his hands, trying to put pressure on the bleeding spots.]

Are there oneth that make you confethh thingth you'd never want to thay in your life, let alone even admit to yourthelf, becauthe if tho than the anthwer ith YETH.

It happens.

[ She reaches out, offering him a hand. ]

Come here. You need to get to the clinic.

[He's already wiping the blood off his face with his hands, shoving his glasses up into the messy tufts of his hair so he can try and get it off his face without anything in the way.]

Don't freak out, it'th jutht a little blood.

Still - jeez.

[ She's rubbing at her own knuckles, though, expression still vaguely aghast. ]

Are you sure you're gonna be okay? I don't think I've ever hit that hard in my life.

[He spits up another chunk of blood again, probing at this teeth with his tongue to make sure none of them are in danger of falling out of his mouth.]

Jutht, do me a favor and don't thtep on another one. Knocking out my teeth ithn't going to improve my face or make it eathier to kithh.

No more candies! I'll scoot my feet from now on.

[ She's still flushed in embarrassment and concern as he hocks another gob of blood. ]

.. Sollux, please. Are you sure you're gonna be okay?

[He prods around in his mouth with his tongue a bit, making sure that all the blood is from where he bit his tongue and his lips and not because there are loose teeth in there.]

Well I'm not dead thith time, tho.

[ She rubs her knuckles idly. Well, at least he hadn't punched her - she wasn't sure how well she'd take getting socked in the face. ]

Yeah, well, I don't plan on letting you die around me again.

[ It's an idle comment more than anything else. She still felt a little guilty about the whole battle debacle. ]

Go put some ice or something on it, at least?

[Sollux shifts, tries to push himself to his feet- and when his heel slides back and the weight settles on the candy, and it cracks underneath him.]

Maybe you thhould thtop being tho thtupidly thoughtlethhly recklethh and actually think about what you're doing, for once.

[ Jade has to set her jaw and remind herself- that's the candy, it's the candy, it makes people say mean things, not necessarily true ones. ]

I'm working on that.

[It is kind of true, though, in a way, or he wouldn't have said it. In his head, anyway. Everybody has those unkind things they think about their friends that they would never actually say.]
