END OF ARC 2: PART ONE OF THREE

Who: ANYONE going on the infiltration into Thrymheim!
What: Lots of travelling and also rescuing Freyr's soul.
When: Days 278 - 279 ( June 10 - 13 )
Where: Asgard, Thrymheim, and the road inbetween.
Rating: PG-13. Anything that might go higher than that should be taken to a private log, please!

[ Before even the first crack of sunlight over the horizon on Day 278, every bracelet in the city will give a quiet blip! as they activate with a short mass text from the gods:
The time to act has come. Gather at the Gate of Frost by the Sun's first rays if you will, and be prepared to strike at the heart of ice. There is no room for failure.
Exactly as the message implies: it's time to ship off to Thrymheim. Gear up in your best winter clothes and bring whatever weaponry you need; there are wagons thinly concealed and waiting for you at the southern gate that leads to the home of the Frost Giants. Inside the wagons will be those portable heaters that you guys bought in Utgard, along with spare gloves, jackets and scarves for anyone that foolishly believed summer might touch the kingdom of ice. Travellers can also find food rations to last a week alongside a generous amount of medical supplies that may or may not be a bit foreboding.

The caravan will leave at precisely 5AM, driven by the barest amount of Natives to keep travel at a minimum. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, and a severe silence will fall across the few sitting in the back of the wagons with the Travellers. They know the weight of this mission: if you fail, Freyr's soul will remain trapped forever. It is dangerous and no one's lives are guaranteed, so prepare yourselves for a fight quite unlike any other this far.

As you travel further from Asgard, you might notice the terrain getting a bit more uneven as the wagons move through undeveloped areas. There may be the odd village noticeable in the far off distance, but they are nowhere close enough to make out any distinguishable details because you don't want them distinguishing anything about you in return. These villages are few and far between, and grow even less in number the closer the caravan gets to Thrymheim. The terrain goes from rocky but arable to colder and harder, the temperature dropping increasingly as the earth grows solid and unforgiving, eventually peppering with light snowfall even in the midst of Yggdrasil's summer.

It will take two full days to reach Thrymheim travelling at as fast a pace as they can without wearing out the horses or catching unwanted attention. They will make short stops to feed and brush the horses, switch drivers, and allow for any necessary relief - but these breaks will last no longer than ten to twenty minutes at most. Simple meals will be served by the Natives thrice daily, and Travellers are welcome to attempt sleep on one of the meager pallets stocked up if they think they can manage it. Space is not abundant and neither is time. ]

[ OOC NOTES: This is part one of three for the Save Our Souls plot! Please put the day/location in the title of your comment along with [OPEN/CLOSED]. The second log can be found over here and the third and final log can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

[Dirk doesn't take his eye off Tyki, not entirely. They have to work together so until the job is done, things will be fine. He shifts to regard the newcomer and nods.] Then that's all of us. I'm Dirk.

[He turns the knife and works the other side of it. It was his back-up of his back-up. He wasn't about to leave anything to chance.] Now that we're all here, it would be a good idea to hash out what we can do. The more we know, [He leaves it there. The more they know, the more they can work together.]

Mm.

[tyki's grin looks more than a little predatory, and it's met with an if you go there, i will cut you sort of look. she doesn't sit down on a bench, just squats on her heels on the floor between the two of them. she can watch both of them from there, and they can speak quietly]

My power is shadow control, level 3, and I can fight hand-to-hand and with blades. I can also climb well. Admittedly, I'm also used to fighting alone.

[That's because it is a little predatory. It's Dirk's fault mostly. The way he's acting around him is far too calm. He just can't help the way he acts sometimes. He follows her figure all the way into her squat and holds out his hand in greeting as if tipping a hat.]

Telepathy, level 1. I don't think I've been here as long as the both of you but that won't be a problem. I've gotten use to making it work. Besides, I can fight rather well on my own or with partners.

[Oh for fuck's sake it's like the universe is mocking the shit out of him. Well. It could prove useful, an early warning system. Sort of.]

Ice, level 2. I specialize in swordmanship and flying solo but, I've had enough group experience to adapt. Hand-to-hand combat is no stretch for me, either.

[Two blade fighters, and...he knows how Tyki fights.]
hollowchild: (slow down keep your eyes on me)

[personal profile] hollowchild 2013-06-15 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[there isn't much for tyki to follow, honestly. she's bundled against the cold and even where she's not it's pretty apparent that she's thin unto skinniness, with sharp cheekbones and the sort of shadows around her eyes that speak of poor sleep. with some more weight and proper rest she'd be quite pretty, if still rather boyishly figured.]

All right. How do we mean to do this, then? I doubt highly that a god's soul is going to be sitting out near the entrance waiting for us. Even if we can sneak in, which seems...less than likely, we'll almost certainly have to fight our way out.

[He snorts a little at their words and decides listening is probably a good idea. As for Sophie, he'll take a little eye candy no matter what sleep or sickness that has fallen on it. She's still something to look at. Unfortunately, that wasn't important right now.

Without this soul, things would complicate later and he actually planned on helping that out.
] As much as I'd want to stop and make sure something is dead, we'll have to keep moving forward. If you got any ideas in general, I'm all ears. [He wasn't much of a strategist.]
timaeus_testified: (And you sing to me.)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-16 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
We don't want to make too extensive of a plan. Shit like that always gets wrecked.

[How to do this then? What a good question. He continues without a pause.] It's all going to depend on how ready the giants are. They might have their defenses up and ready to go when we show up. Or we'll catch'em with their pants down. I'd be fuckin embarrassed for them in that case, if it wasn't the best case scenario.

For now, I say we focus on sneaking in. If we can pass off as newcomers to rocks fall, everyone dies brigade, that saves us energy and time. When we have to then we overwhelm the sorry fuckers long enough to dart by. Whoever hits the slowest and has the best defense capabilities should probably be on soul duty when it's time to fuck off and slide on out.
hollowchild: (i'm just trying to accept the way it is)

[personal profile] hollowchild 2013-06-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. And we can't plan that much anyway, we've no idea what the castle we're going into looks like, or where the soul might be. But we should have an idea of basic strategy and what positions we'll be taking. I'm no strategist, though.

[she sighs and runs a hand through her hair]

We aren't exactly in a position to test each other's capabilities. Slow hitting aside, I'm obviously the smallest, and I can make armor from my shadows, which probably makes me the best defended and most easily defensible.

[He lightly scratches his chest as he considers all of it. The gods really could've given them more support and help on this or yeah, maybe a map. He looks them both over, gauging their size. He'll nod towards Sophie on her size. In his life, he never met any females that were on point anyways.]

Not without drawing attention to us unless we kept it in the wagon and even then it is really small. We'll be the only ones actually going inside so we can stick with the big group until it is time. So alright, lovely. You stay in the middle and the kid and I will keep you defended enough.

When we need extra bursts of speed, if we can use our shit, I'll provide patches of ice to slide on. We need some extra cover and I can generate fog. [It was a shame the runes couldn't be used outside of the city. He taps the tactical blade sheathed on his right side.]

That's my contributions to Team Badass.

[The gods put them mostly on their own. If they pull this off, they earned that name.]

[she makes an amused sound at the name]

I can never figure out whether these gods are complete fools or have an undue amount of faith in our tenacity. But if we succeed we'll deserve the moniker.

So, do we have something like a plan?

[personal profile] prazerbutterfly 2013-06-16 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He snorts a bit at such a ridiculous name.]

I've never been one for Gods. Manipulative bastards. We do all the work and they go in for the glory when it is time. We're just pawn pieces for them to play with. That's how any god ever seems to turn out into.

Yes, just note that I might peek into your thoughts just a little to see where I fit best. [And there would be moments where he'd touch just to relay a thought if they had to be quiet.]
timaeus_testified: (And what is that?)

[personal profile] timaeus_testified 2013-06-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
It seems like we have a bit of a plan. As much of one as we can on knowing fuck-all about the opposition other than they're 'giants'. [Dirk leans back, checking the edge he's been putting on the dagger and slips his water stones away into the oiled roll on the side away from Tyki. He pulls out a small cloth and the bottle of oil from it.]

We can work the rest out as we go. [For better or worse, this was the team and the objective. The rest was whatever it was. He doesn't really care.]
